Major bummer for you early MMR recipients. It sounds like this very well could be affecting all of the first batch. I hope CGC makes this right and takes care of all of you. For all of those people out there questioning the BOM, and how lucrative this project was, here is a perfect example of one of those costly unforseen issues/risks that can arise and reduce profit big time. CGC possibly has all first 50 games with chipped clearcoat and a problem that can't be easily adjusted for a fix by the customer, and possibly a lot of playfields already pre drilled that will need fixing, and the inevitable delays that come with it. Some things in life are easy, relaunching a pin from 18 years ago isn't one of them. Good luck to all involved.

Quoted from SuperPinball:

I'm still not sure what all the fuss is about regarding the slingshot hitting the playfield chip. A few original MM's have been shown to have the same slingshot mark and the actual damage is extremely small. Look at any NIB and see the cratering that occurs on the playfield after a month of play, now that's much worse than a tiny chip. I know MMR has gives us the same feeling as when we get a new car and if we get a tiny scratch we get all bent out of shape. I think we need to play and enjoy MMr more and scrutinize less.

Well I can't speak for anyone else, but my main concern is that once the clear coat is compromised, it will continue to chip at a faster pace in that area, eventually exposing the art. My worst fear is that after a couple thousand plays, the art starts to degrade and wears down to the wood. Maybe I'm letting my fears get the best of me. But I certainly plan to play the hell out of my machine and I would be pretty bummed if after the first year or two, it had premature wear. I'd be interested to know what Vid or someone else that knows playfields and cc thinks about what this could turn over time. Are we making a big deal over a very minor issue?

Mine has done it. Rare, but it has happened. Definitely not an all the time thing. For what it's worth, i have seen it happen on the pinball arcade MM app on my ipad as well.
