Powdercoat would seriously challenge me to continue on with gold trim. I just don't like the look. If I were to return to stainless, I'd seriously consider forgoing the LE and waiting for the standard, since at that point the only difference would be the shaker and plaque.
I still think he should go with the Mirco real gold plate. That won't tarnish and a good coat of auto clear would protect it nicely. There's enough profit in there I would hope to support the marginal extra cost.
