Hello fellow pinsiders, hope everyone is doing great.

I haven’t seen any reference to something that my display is doing so hoping someone knows why it’s doing this and hopefully how to get it off.

Is it normal to have a blue info box in the top right corner that shows 60hz and the resolution on the display? Looking straight ahead while playing you can barely see it. I’ve tried all the buttons on the display controls but all I could do was turn off the entire monitor.

Thanks for any help.

Never seen it stay.only on power up for a few seconds.

Maybe...

Unplug the HDMI both ends
cable and plug it back in?

There is an auto button on the lcd board.
To sync the display.
The other thing to check is the ribbon cable to the control board.

Maybe others will have some ideas

The display controller board is showing that. Are you trying the buttons connected to this board?

#4 1 year ago

Thanks everyone for the help, Yes it’s showing that in the LCD display at the top right corner. I’ve tried pushing all the buttons one at a time and the only thing that happens is the display turns off.

The other buttons, Auto, Menu doesn’t appear to do anything fromwhat I can tell.

The only things I’ve done is remove the translite and unplug it while trying to fix this.

I also removed the screen/display (4 screws) to clean the plastic from the inside. The connector for the controls was slightly sticking up so I pushed that back in.

I’ll try unplugging all the display cables.

Should I do that with the game on or off?

Thanks again.

Always best to urge on the side of caution and have the machine unplugged while working inside it. Any dropped screw or metal from your watch could fry the whole game.

My AFMrSE has the same thing pop up while booting but goes away once the game is ready. I would suggest making a support ticket with CGC.

I think I know what the issue is. The menu may be hidden by the upper bezel. If there is a way to easily disassemble the display from the speaker panel you should be able to check to see if the menu is hidden.

So there is an option in the menu to keep that resolution display always on possibly?

I’ll try to remove it to see if I can see the menu or other options.

Thanks for all the help and advice everyone, I’ll post updates just in case this happens to someone else.

#8 1 year ago

Well I took the display out and tried all the buttons again to see if anything (like a menu) shows up at the top or bottom where it might be hidden when installed and nothing showed up.

I tried the buttons individually, tried holding each button, tried button combinations and the only button that did anything was the Select/Exit button (2nd one from right) and that turned off the display which was odd as the first button on the right is labeled Power but that didn’t do anything.

I also tried unplugging the mini HDMI connector from the main board and that didn’t do anything, did this while machine was off.

Hoping I am not the only one where this has happened but so far it’s not looking good.

Thanks for any help.

Looking Grim....LOL.....

#11 1 year ago

Sure is, LTG advised to open support ticket. My dealer is looking into this, so fingers crossed.

It’s just so weird as I don’t think it was there when it was setup and all I did was remove the translite so I could remove the display to clean the inside screen. I didn’t do anything to that display. Very odd but I seem to always get lucky and have issues no one else has

Did you try looking for a manual for the LCD? There should be a part number on the back of it somewhere.

#13 1 year ago

Grim is when your spouse or a close loved one has received a cancer diagnosis. I was laughing because isn't there a character in the game named Grim or Dugrim?

I did search for a manual but the only thing I could find was the specifications and other details but no user or functionality manual. The actual LCD model is G156XW01 V.1.

Not sure but didn’t mean it that way.

Thanks again everyone for any help, it is just so annoying as everything else looks so great but that darn blue box peeking out.

#15 1 year ago

My guess is the screen isn't keeping sync or initializing sync properly, forcing the display to render it's current resolution in that box. Have you tried a different HDMI cable?

I had an issue where my LCD wouldn't show anything BUT the blue box and I ended up having to get a whole new beagleboard.

I did try a different cable, still there. I also unplugged all the cables going to the display, no luck.

Yikes, I hope I don’t need a new board, guessing though it’s either that or a new LCD.

I just can’t believe no one else has had this happen, well I guess not all owners are here on Pinside.

Thanks everyone for the help and maybe we’ll figure it out.

First one I've heard of. Haven't seen it before on the ticket desk.

I'm guessing one of the wires at either end of the molex on the monitor to the button board is bad.

Since it was working before you moved it. And the buttons aren't working as they should now.

Bad crimp that came loose when flexed.

DMM end to end

Ticket opened, here’s hoping.

That’s what I was thinking last night. I haven’t tried it but thinking of checking all the wires of the connectors to see if any pop out. I tried to find the pin outs for this LCD and board but no luck.

Just wish I could do this while it was on so I could see but oh well.

Fingers crossed it’s just a loose wire and that I can just push it in to make a better connection.

Thanks again everyone for all the help and advice and I’ll keep updating.

Take care.

Well went to check for loose wires and unplugged the connector going from the LCD to the board on back of LCD and saw where one pin is missing. A wire does connect to it, black, assuming it’s a ground.

Have no idea how to fix this, paper clip or used a pin from further down that isn’t being used (no wire connecting to it)?

Never mind, that’s not it as I took the board out and there is no pin that comes through on the other side.

Tested continuity for all wires connected to LCD and all the connectors are good.

The only strange thing is there is another wire that is connected to nothing. The spot it’s in on the connector, doesn’t connect to any pin, similar to the above. So I don’t know if that is how it’s supposed to be or not.

Clueless now.

Try reinstalling the code.

Quoted from dzoomer:

Try reinstalling the code.

Tried that yesterday

I did have a small breakthrough, I was playing around with different button combinations on the LCD extension board and actually got a menu up. It would auto scroll through all the options until I held down the power button and it would stop. Two of the other buttons would scroll through each of the different individual options when I held that Power button (button all the way on the right).

I had no idea what to try to change but I know I didn’t want to mess with any of the colors so I saw the one option (Force Logo) with Off and On options. I got the red highlighter to the Off option but then didn’t know what button actually was the choose/select the option so I pressed a button one after the other while still holding the Power (otherwise it would continuously scroll) and the menu disappeared and there was a clear screen without that blue box.

I thought Success!!! BUT I then thought well it’ll be a success if I can turn off the game and the settings hold, well unfortunately the box came back after a power cycle, so back to square one.

We’ll see what happens with the support ticket.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions and help.

Ok, update time.

I received a call from a very friendly CGC tech specialist and I let him know everything I tried, all the above posts, and he said he’s never come across this issue and would have to research a little and call me back. A few hours pass and he called back and said no one he talked to has ever heard or seen this type of issue. He said he was going to ship me a replacement board for the back of the LCD and a new controller board for the LCD and cable. Well, I received it late today and did the swap and Voila, success. The blue Hz\resolution box came up on boot but then just went away after 5 or so seconds. The LCD controller board also now had the LED slightly lit, previously it would come on Green and then go away.

I think I might have discovered what the issue is\was but not 100% sure and do not want to test it out just in case I am wrong. I have attached two additional pictures, the first one (white wires showing) is of the board that came with my machine and the second one (blue wires showing) is the replacement board I received. Notice anything different? As you can see, the connectors are different from each other, the wire configuration and orientation. It turns out they are the opposite ends or swapped. I think what it means is my cable was connected backwards according to how the cable was plugged in on the replacement part, so if that’s the case, in theory I should just be able to swap the connectors or swap ends on my LCD controller board and cable so it matches the replacement part and it should work the same, if in fact there isn’t anything wrong with the boards.

What’s odd is that after I came up with my theory, I searched online for pics of the back box to see if I could see how the controller is setup and the only one I found (I think from Pinball News) had it the way my machine originally was, so don’t know what that means but it would be interesting to find out how others are setup.

I did have another issue that came up since my latest updates and it’s only happened twice with no pattern as to why. What would happen is the color chip would not be recognized and the machine would revert to just one color., and even in the CGC menu, the Colorize would have a No by it and wasn’t able to be selected\changed. To resolve this, I would just turn it off\on and the issue went away, so hopefully it was tied to this same issue of the cable being connected backwards.

Well hopefully this is case closed and here’s hoping there won’t be any other updates\issues surrounding this.

Thanks again everyone for all the help and suggestions and hopefully if anyone ever has this same type of issue, this can help them out.

Take care and be safe everyone.

Thank you for the final update. Glad to see it’s working for you now!

Funny. I was thinking about this earlier today. Glad your all fixed up. Keep an eye on the color chip issue. It's a security PIC and not related to LCD or cable. If it happens again, open a ticket to get it swapped out.
