I haven't moved the Outlane posts on my MMr yet, but it's certainly challenging. I have been tempted to move them in, but don't want to wimp out yet.. Have you changed yours?

#2 8 years ago

Nope. It's the challenge that keeps me coming back. If I move them in and start getting long game times consistently, I'll be bored with the game in a heart beat. I like short game times with a challenge of having a longer game.

Making home games easy is stupid and serves no real purpose besides making you tire of a game faster.

Some do it in an ill-concieved attempt to win over wives, kids, and guests, though I don't see how it helps.

For me it's strictly factory settings with buy-in turned off.

Several of my friends have suggested that I should move them, but I have refused so far. I should disclose that I hold the GC position, and therefore am not motivated to make any changes.

I wouldn't want it to leave a mark on the PF from moving it. No need to make the game easier, it's fun on default settings.

Not seen a MMr yet. Are they completely open?

i agree with turning off buy-in -- seriously, what is the point on a game set to free play?

but as for making the game easier in a home environment ... hey, it's your game, do whatever you think is the most fun for you and your guests.

Having said that, I think I am basically in agreement with you, Levi -- I prefer a tougher, shorter game that requires more discipline for me to do well. Keeps my skills honed. Keeps me from flailing and hoping.

And I think with guests, there is definitely an argument to be made that the last thing you want to do is bore them with a long game that they just walk away from. A tougher game might give them more appreciation for or incentive to develop a modicum of skill. get them more excited if/when they actually do hit multiball or a wizard mode or whatever.

I like it the way it is. I've been one castle away from defeating them all, and with all the other tasks completed...that doesn't happen often and I still find the game challenging - I think going tighter would make it too easy for me.

I left mine of as they were from the factory. MM is not an overly hard game so I don't see the need on this game. It's your game though so do what ever makes it the most fun for you. I moved my TWDLE, Tron, and WOZ out lanes in and I enjoy them more that way. I was one shot away from beating battle of the kingdom a few weeks back and I'm not a great player so MM feels pretty good the way it is. I wouldn't want every game to last that long. You need a few tough games in between good ones to keep you coming back for more.

Mine came with them as wide as they will go.

Never. It's part of the game. Once you learn the shots and become more precise you minimize the risks of the ball draining on the sides. As others mentioned, Medieval Madness isn't very hard. The outlanes are part of the game.
