SWEEEEET!! What I hoped for. A superior MM game.

I don't blame Rick or whomever had to say there would be colored dots coming, because frankly I don't think a lot of people would have bought an MMR if they could never get a colordmd upgrade and were stuck with something that aesthetically didn't look as good as a modded original.

Yes the words "free upgrade" were thrown around way back when so that is something you'll have to navigate, especially in light of all the delays.

I suggest that any good will shown to MMR owners will come back ten fold on future remake releases now that you have shown that you can create a superior game.

I will concede this upgrade is more than just colorized dots, so it is fair to pay for it, since it is beyond remaking the original.

There are ongoing PR issues though that affect this, that it is quite possible when Expo 2015 rolls around there are still people waiting who ordered their MMRs at expo 2013.

    Quoted from spidey:

Funny how the fonts are still low res dots. Maybe that's to keep a touch of the old school flavor with it.

I think its a good design choice.

It's like we jumped from original black & white game boy to Super Nintendo.

I was thinking Apple II to the Commodore Amiga...

There is a "Defender of the Crown" quality about it .

    Quoted from Eryeal:

Pretty sure the whole "back-end royalty" guarantees it's not going to be free for anyone .. Hard to get paid a royalty on free.

It's weird to think of royalties on only a potential customer pool of 1000 machines. Low six figure sales potential. I don't see the math here. Makes more sense big picture wise looking at the future sales potential for future remakes and just to eat the cost.

I'm curious if they chose the pixel 16-bit style resolution for a reason? Did it look and work better than if at higher res? I suspect the new art was made at modern resolutions and then "pixelized" for pinball? Why choose "4 times the dots" when the display does more?

I'm fine with it looking 16-bit, if that fits the game better, just curious of the decision behind it.

    Quoted from JoeJet:

Begs the question.. why hasn't Stern done something similar by now?

Likely same reason this is not going to be given to everyone who already paid $8000 for a machine, the added cost. Once Stern goes down this road the cost of their machines will increase by $xxx.

    Quoted from johngravenews:

Wonder what this means for future reissues? If say MBr was to happen would you need to get one license from Universal for the original DMD artwork and a second one to cover the redrawn images? Could an artist OK the original orange dots but refuse to let a more detailed version through?

Money makes the world go round. I don't see anything stopping anything.

    Quoted from TigerLaw:

Might grab one of these instead of GoT LE from Stern now if the latest rumor is true and GoT won't have the LCD display.

See, this is the REAL value of the new dots. To move machines. I hope they don't get fixated on breaking even on selling the software.

Something tells me the only complaints this mod will generate is not that it isn't accurate to the original, it's that the original machines can't have access to it.

I guess all of us with money for pinball machines let our customers price our products? I know if I did I'd be broke.

It will be priced at what the market will bare. Cost of development is irrelevant.

The only variable in all this is the fact that the games have been so slow coming, so there may be some PR motivation.
