Quoted from HOOKED:

If its a software only update and I own two machines...would it work on two different machines if I download once? Just thinking what if.

Absolutely not. They will lock each color display software purchase to one machine.

Quoted from moto_cat:

It'll do you no good without the security chip.

It'll do just fine if the software is decrypted

#938 7 years ago

Please please please somebody decrypt the shit out of the colorized display code. I don't have an MMr but it'd feel good to see that

#940 7 years ago

If it makes you feel better to think another post about wanting their encryption defeated is delaying their progress, go ahead and think that

Quoted from jackofdiamonds:

What are they encripting? The game software was designed 20+ years ago.FULLY!!!!
And the screen didn't tear, and the date and time worked and it sounded good.
I guess they're encripting all their fuck ups.

From what I understand they are encrypting their colorization data. They do not want one person to purchase the upgrade, and then copy or share it with other machines without paying.

I am interested in what the actual security chip used is though. It was previously mentioned at a show that they had to add a chip, upgrade the software, and boom you have color.

$10 for any hardware required to bypass the security
$Free to install cracked software to allow colorized screen

I still say wait for it to be cracked. This is coming from a non MMr owner. Once the details of the chip are released it's open cracking season.

Quoted from John_I:

This is also unlikely considering most buyers are honest people along with the risk that some sort of watermark could be there to point to whose machine the hack came from. Remember the DVD screener of Quinton Quentin Tarantino's last movie?

The color is already available for download through the latest software update. There is nothing machine-specific about that.

Quoted from o-din:

If it took an expert programmer 2 years at a salary of $200,000 a year then they will be lucky to break even.

LOL, this doesn't take an "expert programmer" it takes a digital artist who is good with low res pixel art (hi res in comparison to regular DMD though). They should not be making anywhere near $200k and if someone was working on this for 40+ hours a week it would not take a year.

Can't wait for the color security to be hacked. Sorry if CGC employees like Wacky don't like my post.

#1927 7 years ago

Would love for someone to share some details and/or pictures of the chip once they arrive.

Quoted from Rarehero:

BAM! I'm holding the camera and just pressing switches with my fingers - but here's a vid with lots of the animation:
» YouTube video

That looks really great. They did a fantastic job colorizing and redrawing the art on this game.

Quoted from Mike_J:

It is a complete waste of time.
Hopefully, few people buy their next game.

I will only buy their next game if it's MMrr that corrects all of the problems with MMr.

Quoted from PPS:

The color code is Chicago Gaming's project and product. It is theirs to tell PPS what and when they are going to do. It is PPS input to them as to what I think they should do. So, if you want to know the details of what Chicago Gaming will do then ask them or wait until they tell me and then I will let people know and hope that follow thru on that. Hope that clarifies.
thank you.

Do you have any current input to them as to what you think they should do at this point? If so, what changes have you recommended they implement?

#2267 7 years ago

Where I work, I'm responsible for my subsuppliers. If I ship my customer a defective product that I purchased, I am on the line to fix the problem and I certainly can't deflect back and ask my customer to contact my supplier for support. That's my responsibility.

#2270 7 years ago
Quoted from PPS:

there is nothing 'defective' about the color software ... it does what was advertised, the videos that people post are exactly what has been received, and of course there are always improvements and disagreement on specific frames for you can debate (and do here debate endlessly) whether it's a 'bug' or a design issue, etc. ... despite all of the hyperbole here I push CGC constantly to deliver and if anyone would ever pick up the phone to ever call and discuss (which the most critical here can not ...) you will find that we are advocates of the best product possible. Honestly the feedback has been consistently great on the color update.

Sorry Rick, I didn't intend to imply the color software was defective, just illustrating my point of view when I deal with my customers and suppliers.

So it sounds like you are perfectly fine with the current color code and have asked for zero improvements to it?

#2272 7 years ago

I read your comments the first time and went back over them again just now, and I do understand your position. You just haven't provided any details at all as to what you've asked CGC to improve upon. You've only spoken in generalizations, and mentioned that you've gotten consistently great feedback on the color update so that's why I think that you're happy with the current color code and do not expect any further improvements. If this is wrong, please help me understand. Some of your quotes:

"I have and continue to give them alot of input about how I would recommend they handle things and what software related items I have concerns with."

"it does what was advertised, the videos that people post are exactly what has been received, and of course there are always improvements and disagreement on specific frames for you can debate (and do here debate endlessly) whether it's a 'bug' or a design issue, etc."

"Honestly the feedback has been consistently great on the color update."

#2297 7 years ago

It's much easier to BS and schmooze over the phone.

I would consider the color software done at this point. They will not be improving it further. Rick has no control to make this happen even if he wanted to.

#2330 7 years ago

Once he has your money he could give 2 shits, that is evident.

Quoted from tu71586:

I am the second owner of a MMR LE. Does anyone know if I'll be able to order the colorization update from the LE page? It looks like PPS wants to verify ownership against my name, but I'm not the original owner of the machine. Anyone any experience with this? Thanks.

Contact the original owner, have him order the LE upgrade and send it to you. Give him $20 for the effort and come out $180 ahead.

As far as I know any PIC is compatible with all software versions released thus far. You just won't have the color option enabled until you install the color PIC.
