Quoted from venom112:

Wondering if the flippers feel more floaty to you because they are actually very responsive being brand new. All of the original MM I have played were pretty beat up and the flippers were pretty weak etc... Maybe cause it has brand new flippers they are very responsive.

Played it 3 times and every time it has been next to brand new Sterns/Hobbit/Woz etc and restored AFM/MM etc.

It just feels 'off' and the flippers feel different.

I am only asking because I want AFMR but not if it plays differently to the many AFM I have played.

#2452 7 years ago

I think these videos illustrate what I am trying to describe.

Original MM flippers look 'tighter' whereas MMR flippers seem they are more loose. Not a flipper expert but I can feel the difference and on these videos I can see the difference.

You can see the 'wobble' of the MMR flippers. Have spoken to friends and they agree so it is not just me.

Guessing they might be built differently?

And can anything be done? AFMR is off my list if this is how flippers will be.

I think you are being very nit-picky. I've played MM and MMr and the only thing I notice is most MM's are old and need flipper rebuilds..... MMr plays fine, move along.......

Er, why should I move along - are you a moderator? Sorry for having an opinion

It plays different - end of. I am just trying to figure out why so that I will be informed should I decide to purchase an AFMR.

New flippers will always play different than 20 year old flippers.....move along

Did you not just read what I wrote? Comparing to new Sterns and restored games.

So.......

I don't notice anything when playing MMr, but then again the only original MM's I've played have always been fairly beat up. I suspect that if this is bothersome you're going to find similar issues on AFMr and would take a pass on it.

They're literally the same parts that are on a regular MMr. They're not built differently. The game allows you to set the flipper coil strength. Some report it to strong from factory so they set it lower, me personally, I felt it was too weak from factory so I set it to +3 and it feels awesome. I suggest you try to play one where the owner allows you to monkey with the flipper settings.

That is good to hear as you have a lot of games and comparisons. Are they B/W flippers/mechs then?

Yes. Literally everything mechanical on the game are the same parts you'd buy for a regular MM. The only thing different is the CPU/PCB system.

Well, that is strange and can only think the 3 MMR I have played have not been set up correctly.

Looking forward to AFMR which might be announced soon hopefully

Every Ghostbusters I've played has played like shit, but every owner will tell you theirs plays awesome. So - I dunno what to tell ya! I think my MMr plays awesome and feels like the old MM's I've played. If you're not feeling it, just get an old AFM.

I want an AFMR because of the new HD dots - that is the USP.

As long as it plays fast then that will be good enough for me......if the price is right

#2465 7 years ago

The bigger issue is the rubbers, that has the most effect on how the old game and new game play - but brand new same rubbers on a machine side by side and it's hard to know which is which from a game play perspective.

I am confused why this discussion is occurring in a thread called "MMr - Colorization Pricing and Availability...Finally!"
I think whining about flippers on a 20 year newer machine is weird.....yeah, gonna be 20,000 plays different feeling.....Move along.....

Sounds like you should wait and play AFMR before you buy. I've put in a fair amount of time on MMR and didn't notice a difference in play other than no distortion of ball movement in the MMR due to lifted trolls and Mylar as on the MM on route here. But it's your money, so the only thing you should worry about is your opinion.
