PPS has a black gold and stainless MMr at expo. it looks to be playing well but at least the black one is not scoring the skill shot correctly. Also all three seem to be flipping strong BUT the back levelers are down almost fully and the fronts are all the way up, the games are set very shallow. They do look good though.

#24 9 years ago
Quoted from metallik:

The black MMr has the inlanes wired backwards, and the left switch is flakey as well. Mechanical issues, nothing about the new platform. Agree on the flat-ness, they play a bit slow. I hope they make one of the games steep and turn up the flipper strength. The power here seems fine, all the games are playing great.
Couple other minor bugs on all three games: the duke of bourbon insert flashes without any incandescent emulation, and the DMD animations occasionally 'tear' .. usually ones ones involving flashes or lots of animation. The cabs and playfield do look nice, colors are nice and vibrant. Castle boom and such seems fine.

i saw the tearing, it wasn't terrible but was noticeable

gameplay vid shortly

#32 9 years ago

was still processing, live now

#33 9 years ago

I'll likely get a full vid later today.

The LEDs they are using for GI look nice, they are vertically molded stripes so it spreads the light well it seems. The light spot gets spread out almost to looking like there is a filament in the bulbs, but it does look a little weird in the pop bumpers for some reason but the vid didn't pic it up well. The purple on the bottom of the cab looks *really* purple, and the originals were much bluer. I'll try to get some time on the game today too. Yesterday was just checking things out.

Quoted from BC_Gambit:

Sounds like they might have put the legs on wrong? Could be something as simple as that, rather than some big conspiracy to hide a game's weakness. Still kinda a funny hiccup when demoing an 8K product that you want to sell thousands of.
Teekee got a thumbs up from me for talking sense, AND managing to spell "lose" correctly. Seriously, it seems as if the whole world can no longer tell the difference between lose and loose. Thank you stern, I trace all this back to "you ooze, you loose".

personally I doubt they put them on backward. The games are seemingly playing level so they did go and adjust them after they installed the games. They are also not all completely high front low back. but they are all high front. There is really low back, and medium low in back as the pics should show.

1000's of people... and no pocket level?

i have a level, but they aren't exactly taking off the glass so people can check the pitch.

getting ready to head back to expo. will be at the hotel the rest of the weekend so I'll get some vid, just dont know when it will get uploaded.

Quoted from perryd:

Was at TPS this past year as we well and The MMr was perfect, played fine all around!

Id guarantee these were the tpf games. posts were too dirty to have been new build.

#104 9 years ago

I got more vid today I'll try to post later. The black one does have the to lanes wired backward.the base skill shot is only attained by hitting the unlit lane. The black one also has the speakers wired out of phase, the stainless one is correct. The vid I have were taken when the vendor hall was closed so the sound should be much clearer.

#121 9 years ago
Quoted from PPS:

And you would be wrong ... All 3 games built last 10 days ... different rev of everything from tpf.

Ok that's good to know, I was basing it strictly on how beat up the posts in front of the ramps were. Didn't expect them to look that dirty on a fresh game. I've got a fantastic original at home, these don't play to much different, but at least the black one needs the speakers fixed, one is wired out of phase. The stainless is correct, didn't have a chance to try the gold one.

#124 9 years ago

vids are uploading to you tube. there is a shorter game on the stainless and a longer game on the black. link should be live shortly. ill add the second link when it finishes.

2nd video is big looks like at least an hour on the wifi here to upload. This was the black trim game, it will eventually be here:

oh not a gameplay issue but an oddity, a start button reset while a ball is on the PF resets the game and immediately starts scoring the ball in the PF as ball one.

#128 9 years ago

a reset is normal when you hold the start butting after ball one, a reset does not normally score the ball in play. I shifted the camera so I wanted to reset the game, I launched ball 2 so that I could do the reset and while the ball was on the PF it started scoring that ball as ball one of the new game. Normally a game will not score it since it will, at the restart with a ball in the PF, have a ball missing condition. since the trough and shooter lane do not contain enough balls. Like I said its not a gameplay issue at all. Just mentioned since it exists and if you were to be playing a game and reset best to do it while everything is in the trough.

Quoted from pezpunk:

first thing that struck me was the excellent sound quality. very clear, and healthy bass. noticeable improvement from the original. otherwise it looks like it plays like a MM to me.

We know some vendors so I was able to get in the vendor hall before it was open yesterday so it made the audio much easier to record. thats the silver one with the correctly wired speakers. I don't know if the new vid will let the mis-wired speakers be heard or not.

Thanks to all who have assessed this pin and provided videos. I ordered one and have never seen or played one in my life! These reports make me think I've done the right thing.

you should be happy with it

#137 9 years ago

they might not be 555, I was talking to the guy in charge (Doug Duba) and he mentioned a different bulb and that they were having issues with them falling out which is why they are not in 2 of the machines. they will likely use hot glue to hold them in fully. also the legs levellers were changed but it was still not a "typical" setup pretty low front, midlevel backs
<img src="http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc209/calvin12d/Mobile%20Uploads/20141018_112015.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 20141018_112015.jpg"/>

#138 9 years ago

Oh he also opened up the machine. they just did make them according to Doug they finished the black one pretty much as the truck arrived to pick up the games to get them here, these are full production part machines not any proto/sample parts in these machines. I have vid of the interior I'll load later, need to go play some more.

#144 9 years ago

underside of playfield. will be live as soon as the upload finishes.

#145 9 years ago

Oh on QC, nothing to do with gameplay, the clear plastic over the dragon was on backwards, but that is just a matter of telling the people on the line which way to install it.

Quoted from Erik:

Who was the guy describing how the big driver/led board was engineered?

Head of chicago gaming I believe. It was indeed Doug Duba.

Quoted from viper001:

I was able to put in a couple of games on the black trim example, and one good game on the gold trim example. More importantly the nice gentleman that was involved in the game design gave us a tour of the underside of the playfield on the gold one. I can attest that Chicago Coin is passionate about making this game for everyone, you could tell by how excited this fella was about describing some of the engineering that went into it (sorry, I didn't get this person's name but he was very friendly, older gentleman with a pony tail).
I noticed screen tearing issue that others have pointed out, but as a whole I have to admit I had fun playing the game with my friends that were there with me. Was the game so nice/perfect/superior to my original that I feel the need to trade mine for one of these? No. But overall I think folks will be satisfied with their purchase. I will say that I believe a freshly shopped original WPC-95 game has snappier flippers than these two examples, but I also will admit I was able to make both ramp shots many times over on MMr.
Artwork I prefer an original over these (except for the playfield artwork which looked great on these new ones). Part of that is I am a fan of original silkscreen cabinets over decals. And also I can't really describe technically what I didn't like about the translight except to say it didn't look to me as vivid or sharp as an original. That could be an LED backlighting issue which I just am not a fan of on any game.
I also noticed one thing I didn't see anyone mention. While playing the black trim example I noticed that when you hit the flipper button to change the lit lanes there was a noticeable delay before the blinking light would react. That game was doing the incandescent fade setting thing, maybe it is related to that? In any event as much of a fan of incandescent bulbs as I am, if that happens all the time on that setting I would (personally) turn off that feature to avoid that issue if I owned one of these games.
Noticeable improvements were the sound quality on these new machines, in particular the shaker motor integration. Color me jealous in that area for sure. I also thought the finish details on the cabinets themselves was very nice, especially the black painted areas around where the translight mounts into the backbox.
All indications at the show were that these games would start to be built next month. I hope everyone that has one on order is happy with their purchase.

I saw the lighting delay and thought I might have been imagining it. I didn't want to say anything until I looked at my video

Quoted from Skypilot:

I was fortunate enough to get in on closed time and play. As I began I noticed and made the coment to the gents setting up that it felt more like a stern than a Williams in the flipper feel. They opened the door got into the adjustments and turned up the flipper strength. It made a big difference. I have never owned a MM but own plenty of B/W title and was satisfied with the feel after this. I can say that I was quite disappointed that PPS pulled the games out early. When the hall reopened at 11 pm they were gone. JJP and Stern stuck it out.

The thing is this should not be necessary to even be adjustable.

#179 9 years ago

I didn't say it's a negative to be adjustable, just that it should not be needed. How long have flippers been on pins and not adjustable beside high and low tap which isn't flipper specific?

#183 9 years ago

The point is games are actually designed to play in a certain way. The strength of the flippers is designed into how the ramps and shots are built. Putting that much variability into it just means people get lazy and rather than keeping the flippers in good shape they just turn up the power if they can't make a shot. Its like dumbing down a video game because you aren't that good. Play the game the way the designer intended. There are games, like white water, that specifically use different coils on each flipper.

#189 9 years ago

I didn't say it was bad, just that it shouldn't be necessary. Sega games had adjustment, people also didn't really like the flippers There is a reason that most people say b/w had the best flippers. I know the black game on Saturday was set at medium strength and +3. I don't know what the other 2 were set at. There are at least 3 power levels, and each has the ability to be adjusted up or down from there. I had no complaints about the flippers. My only realquestionare build quality with the issues that were seen at expo, but those games were full production parts but still built on essentially a test line. They are still working on getting the line designed and qc. I can only assume these minor issues will be fixed through assembly training as they were strictly production errors. I need to contact them I was asked if I'd be willing to help test at times.

Oh looking back at the pics, the front decals are still way off.
