Need Help, my Medieval Madness original is having an issue on start up. When I flip the switch the dot matrix shows check fuses F101 and F109, J127 and opto 12v supply. I checked the fuses and they are fine, I’m not sure what or where the opto on the 12V supply is or how to check it. Any help would great!

Your driver board has little metal pegs sticking up labeled TP ( test point ) and a number next to them, 12V, 20V, 50V, etc. etc. Find the 12 volt one and check from it to ground if you have 12 volts DC there or not.

Did you pull them and check with a meter ?

Yes I did, if I don’t have 12 volts DC what would the remedy be? Thanks for the response

One or more of the fat diodes for the 12 volts are open and would like to be replaced.

I’ll check, thanks again!

Should the game be powered on while measuring or turned off and unplugged?

Let me throw this out there. How much power do you think you'll measure if there isn't any ?

Turned on is best.

Lol, good point

I measured 9 volts at the 12 volt post, looks to be one or more transistors stuck open

#11 5 years ago

If you have 9/12, then one of the diodes is busted. You should now, with the game off, test the large diodes in diode mode and see which one is dead. .4 to .6 is a good reading. Find the one that isn’t and replace it carefully.

No one said transistors.

Diodes, sorry. I’ll check, thanks

Big fat ones on upper right side of driver board. Some are for 5V and 50V and your 12V. 4 for each voltage.

Not sure if 12 volts is on upper right or to the left like on Pinball Life's picture.

LTG, hello!

I have the same issue with a Tales of Arabian Nights, I have 12V on regulated F101 and 7V at unregulated F109. TP. 103 has 15V. I removed D3, D4, D5 and D6. All my diodes check out, .4 on each reversed polarity is infinite. The traces look fine. Would a load on J127 be pulling this down then or C8?

Thanks, Tom

That would be my guess.

I did pull C8 and I believe it checks out as good, see picture. I will open the appropriate wires on J141, J140, J138 and J139 and see what's happens to the measurement. I'll also have to see what all is being powered by this on the load side of this circuit. I believe the main opto board but beyond that I would be guessing. - Tom

I removed each load one at a time and no change. A bit confused and bewildered. I have now checked the traces with a meter and all is good. I have new diodes coming. I should order a cap too and then try this all over again.

The immediate voltage issue was some home brew LED lighting spliced in to the 12V supplying OPTO circuit. Now that I have correct voltage for the OPTO's they are working but I still get the "Check Fuses F101 and F109, J127 and OPTO 12V Supply". I tried a factory reset and it did not correct the issue. - Tom

I had already pressed all the plugs in to make sure they were tight but I went ahead and reseated everything. After doing so it corrected.
