Sure, many of the parts will be the same except the main one... the double cleared playfield. This isn't a bad thing and maybe faster than the original, but not the same.

Quoted from PanzerFreak:That I did not know. At $7.5k-$8k we are getting screen printed cabinets on WOZ and TH with those games packing in more toys, an LCD, topper, etc. I'm sure the decals will look nice on MM but for $8k you would think the side art would be screen printed.
It's not fair to compare the costs of a high volume game for an established company vs the cost of a one-off or start-up company. Back in the day, the factory HAD to be producing to make the numbers work. And that was WITH economies of scale, reuse of parts, labor, etc. Here, you have all the costs of starting up and lower volume. Their cost per game is going to be very high vs 'the old days' - even tho much of the game development itself is already done.
Quoted from The_Dude_Abides:Are you open to the idea that some (like myself) will actually prefer to have the more recently made model with much less use?
Absolutely! That's exactly what I'm saying. This remake was made just for that reason, at a price that is profitable for PPS but less than what even beaters have been selling for. I think overall that's a good thing for pinball. I agree with the rest of your post too.
All I'm trying to say (perhaps poorly) is that a lot of people seem to be putting more emphasis on the "I'll have exactly what he has for 1/2 the cost of what he paid! Sucker!" which is incorrect and stirring the pot, which baits current MM owners into feeling the need to defend themselves...as if anyone can defend or justify spending so many thousands of dollars on a pinball machine Also a bit weird that people have such a negative mindset towards others in the same hobby, but that's a different topic.
Quoted from mechslave:Again, I trust Roger Sharpe on this one. If the cabinet has a bit of that flimsy/hollow feel that Sterns sometimes have, then he won't approve it. The cabinets will be to exact Williams specs, that is how I understand it.
Roger Sharpe isn't going to prevent the MM remake because of how a cabinet feels The dimensions will be the same. The construction materials and methods will be current.

I have no horse in the race, but would not be surprised if the new version feels better, plays just as well as the original, and requires much less maintenance.
I guess we will find out soon.

.
If Sharpe still works for Wms I sure wouldn't count on this. Wms dropped pinball because shareholders didn't think it produced enough profit. Wms and their shareholders are all about profit and if you think he would dump a chance to make money for the shareholders over a flimsy "feel" to the finished game - well I wouldn't hold your breath. If the basic specs match up (and who knows how they will calculate this) then it's gonna get approved.
Look if it has Wms no-buzz dual wound flipper coils it will *already* feel better than any Stern. And I own a couple good Sterns
More of this crap. Yes, you might be right, yes, you might be wrong. Chris Hutchins either builds or sources brand new cabs on at least some of the titles he restores or has in the past. If he can build an original feeling cab, so can PPS.
To say it can't or won't be done is just a lie. We all think they will, they might not, but can't we just stick to saying things we know and not just making stuff up?
