Well poop!

Quoted from Hayfarmer:

Has anyone seen Aaron Lewis, from staind? Hes solo now, show is about half country, half rock. Very good live. 3 times in last 5 yrs

Yes, fantastic. He was one of the shows here recently in TN at the Brushy MT state prison.

Quoted from AstonEnthusiast:

2020 was slated to be a pretty epic concert schedule for us. We planned to start off with backstage passes to Duran Duran as the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. Richard Marx in Tahoe (I know), Rick Springfield locally, Maroon 5 & Matchbox 20 in the Bay Area (M&G w/ Matchbox 20) and Def Leppard. Hoping we can return to normal for the 2022 season, but with many 80's performers getting up there in age, sitting on the sidelines for two years does not bode well for them.

Saw Matchbox 20 with my wife. They were her favorite band when Yourself or someone like you came out!One hit after another album

Yeah, brother! You said it! I can't tell you how many Air Supply shows I've missed in the past year.

And who the hell was giving out free booze nightly at TPF and didn't invite me???

My local station WXPN (Philly) does a Free at Noon concert series every Friday that I miss dearly, was like a part-time job for me to attend. A definite eclectic mix of music artists and styles in a intimate, maybe 400 person setting.

Emerging artists like: Lizzo, Maggie Rodgers, Allman-Betts Band, The War and Treaty
Station favorites like: Pixies, Grace Potter, The National, Citizen Cope, Tommy Conwell, The New Pornographers
Artists trying something different like: Nathaniel Rateliff, Claypool Lennon Delirium, Birds of a Feather
Artists I had never heard of like: Christine and the Queens
Forgotten artists my friend loved in HS like: Ride

Nothing better than free music in a venue small enough to see the artists interact on stage - some played 30 mins with idle chatter mixed in, some like ABB jammed for 75 mins, continuing even after the station stopped the over the air broadcast.

Not me - I swore off stadium shows June 3rd, 1994 after Pink Floyd at Veterans Stadium.

Not gonna watch another concert on a screen and can't afford CrazyLevi level tickets in the front rows.

Last concerts off the top of my head:
Black Pumas
Greta Van Fleet
Metallica
The Who(twice)
Kiss
Judas Priest

You can always tell the closet Air Supply fans by how they pretend not to care. I could sit front row and help those old fogeys with all the lyrics when they lose their place, hell they may even be smitten enough with my silky smooth vocals and fresh take on their classics to invite me on stage to sing lead.

Tinnitus sucks.

Live metal shows are awesome. I enjoy them most in small clubs with ~100 people, and speakers on "medium" volume...

My aging ears hope I don't go to any more shows, even with high end ear plugs in play. I have to be extremely selective now.

Last show was one of the best ever: Black Fast and Vektor at the Elbo Room in 2016.

I think this fall we will take a short vacation to go see again. So good live.

Used to go to a dozen shows a year. Saw 70 plus Dead shows, 18 Bridge School Benefit shows, dozens of concerts with Phish, DMB and MMJ and others.

We recently moved to Utah where concerts are allowed. I'm so desperate for a live show, I've got tickets for Starship even though 1) they blow and 2) "We Built This City" is justifiably regarded as the worst song ever written. It'll still be nice to be at a beautiful outside venue in the mountains looking at the stars while pretending that "Sara" is a good song.

#65 3 years ago

I average about 20 shows a year. Have tickets for Primus, July 2020, those got pushed to July 2021, don't see it happening. There are a few Pinsiders here that are part of the music/touring industry, and talking with them, I don't think 2021 is really going to happen for many of these acts. They all make it sound like they are gearing up for 2022.

That being said, the way contracts are written these days for a lot of artists, it is really important to support your live music scene..... This is where these artists actually make their money.

WOW!

That tour was the first big show I went to. Floyd at Death Valley in Clemson, SC on May 12, 1994. Pretty life-changing show really! My only time at the vet was at the Redskins/Eagles playoff game in 1991. I thought we were going to get killed for wearing Skins gear...the people behind me muttered "Sit down or we'll slash your tires!"

I elbowed my dad in concern and he said "how do they know which car is ours?"

Old man always one step ahead!

RE: the good seats...yeah as I get older I'm lazier and generally just pay up but lots of those great seats came from last minute ticket drops on TM. Still happens!

I have tickets for Barenaked Ladies, Jon Pardi and a blues festival, all in California.

Can't get a refund because they keep postponing the shows as opposed to cancelling them. Frustrating.

Pink Floyd Divisionbell Tour 1994 was spectacular! I got to see the San Diego show at the Murpf, and the first of two shows at the Rose Bowl Pasadena.
The most beautiful light show and crystal clean sound.
I cant believe that this show would turn someone off to live shows!? What? Bad trip?

Don't get me wrong, it certainly wasn't the band - I've just moved past my days of paying top dollar to sit 500ft from the stage and watching the side screens.
I can't even go to Wells Fargo Center (cap 19500) unless I have Club Box near the stage with private bar, bathrooms and standing room area behind the seating section. Yes, I am Old & In The Way

Sweet I love it in there! Seen many shows from that club box, a friend and I would buy the cheapest seats in the house and make up fake club tickets and see the show from there LOL! We'd come early and grab those bar stools. Don't know if that would work nowadays.

We scammed that for Roger Waters, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Peter Gabriel, and a couple other shows.

That one pic of my band The KNobs (Tuba) has yet to rise above club status after 15 years. Holding out for that record deal though!

A friend of mine saw KISS at the garden in the early 1980s. He said someone smuggled in a watermelon full of vodka with a tap on it, and they were just passing this thing down the row and everybody was getting completely wasted.

How did they get a watermelon in there?!?! A little tougher these days.

yes i put 2 bagies of tequila down my pants 1 show .1 leaked made it look like i peed my pants no one would search me

#76 3 years ago

Lol I once sneaked a fifth of vodka into a Sugercubes/PIL/New Order concert at Pine Knob in Mich. Guy searching me put his hand right on it and at that point he either thought I was Ron Jeremy with a hard on or a dude with a fifth in his pants.
I dont think he really wanted to know the truth so he just smiled and waved me thru.

#77 3 years ago

Too damn lazy to stand on my feet for several hours these days. If I'm sitting and the people in front of me stand up I get annoyed. Boomer alert. It could be possible I would drag myself out for a Buckethead show.

I'm thankful for the memories of all the ones I saw over the years. Chicago with Terry Kath, Ten Years After, Robin Trower, BOC, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Edgar Winter, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, Devo, and all the others I can't remember.

#78 3 years ago

I've never seen so many drugs at a show, than at that Rose Bowl Floyd show.
When the lights went out.......
POOF!!!
It looked like a brush fire.
I was 21, and my dad a police lieutenant, so I didn't even drink then, just a rock/metal nerd.
I couldn't believe the amount of paraphernalia!

The Guy sitting next to me was a brain surgeon, his wife looked the part, pure housewives of OC look. By intermission they were both wrecked! His pupils blown out, telling me horrible Brain injury stories, and celebrities who's brains he had seen!
it was hilarious and terrifying at the same time, I was just praying he was not on call the next morning.
The second half of the show they just doubled down, more joints, more white wine, more pills. No clue how they got home. Or even out of our aisle for that matter.

#79 3 years ago

Those pics of ZZ Top...that was a cool gig. I was actually hired/drafted to bring a couple pinball machines in for this fashion week GQ pop up event downtown. The gal running it agreed to get my friend and I on the list.

So basically got to watch ZZ top play a 45 minute set literally 3 feet away from us while we got drunk on free Jack Daniels. Was so boomy. Howard Stern was standing right next to us.

DIdn't have to take the games out til a couple days later, which was good. Because I was in no shape to move pinball machines.

IT was a fantastic set. They didn't play any of the "lip sync/keyboard" songs, it was all old school blues rock.

I know it says “sharp” on the set list but I swear I don’t remember them playing it.

Those pics of ZZ Top...that was a cool gig. I was actually hired/drafted to bring a couple pinball machines in for this fashion week pop up event downtown. The gal running it agreed to get my friend and I on the list.
So basically got to watch ZZ top play a 45 minute set literally 3 feet away from us while we got drunk of free Jack Daniels. Was so boomy. Howard Stern was standing right next to us.

That sounds awesome.

Of all the concerts I saw, ZZ Top was the loudest, by far. That was Anaheim Stadium in the 80s, I think it was called the Texas tour or something like that. I sat all the way at the very top row, leaning out and looking out at the parking lot. It was so damn loud that when a song started you couldn't even recognize the song at first, it was just a sonic blast of noise that was like getting blasted by a hurricane. I don't know how they managed to get 3 guys to make so much noise. I can't imagine what it was like down close.

It was loud as fuck. I was trying to sing along with My Heads in Missisippi and I literally could not hear myself.

Was so funny about 10 minutes before the gig people are just milling around and my friend and I are like, um, ZZ top is about to play. Let's just plant ourselves right in front of these LED mic stands. Like, nobody else had thought of that. After we did it some other folks started to come over. There was no rope, no stage, nothing! Just the band right there. It was like a community center gig.

I (somewhat) remember the 94 Floyd tour, they played 2 nights at the old Cleveland stadium. The amount of drugs available rivaled any Dead show.

ZZ Top still brings it. Been front row center three times now, last time 2 years ago.

Last concert I saw was last March 14. Front and center for Three Dog Night. The next day pretty much everything shut down and I haven't seen another since. I had tickets to lots of good shows last year, some I had never seen before. I just hope some of the older ones will make it through and tour again.

I enjoy outside venues but under roof is where it’s at as far as sound goes .In Chicago the house of blues (small venue so not your biggest acts ) is great for sound .The Riviera and Aarogon Ballroom also are great .I can’t remember the year I’m guessing 88-89 I’ll never forget I was working construction n bartending nights and the owner of the bar I was working at took me to the Double Door (Metro) in Chicago to see The Rolling Stones in a small venue .Nobody knew about it they were opening theyre tour in Chicago the following night and it was a rehearsal.Best night I ever had at a show.

I had Pearl Jam tickets for Spring of 20. I’m waiting on the eventual reschedule. The wife and I are ready to go out and see some music again.

My wife and I LOVE live music and are jonesing so bad for concerts to return it's not funny. I've been going to at least 20-25 shows a year since I was a teenager and have more pictures than I can possibly dig up. Our last big one was Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds for three nights in Cancun Valentine's weekend 2020 then some smaller but fun acts at the Gasparilla Music Fest in Tampa the very last weekend before everything in the world shut the fuck down in March. We were really right up front and close for Brandi Carlisle who is really not my jam at all but I can appreciate almost any really well performed live music.

I've seen ZZ Top a bunch of times (their stage show during the Afterburner tour was some crazy, fun-loving shit), tons of other classic rock of which Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers may be the most underrated, a good amount of 80s-90s country (I fell in love at first sight with Patty Loveless in a red mini-skirt) some hard rock, some hair bands and lots and lots of alternative stuff. Some guy was playing a pretty mediocre set on an acoustic guitar at local pizza place with outdoor seating the other night and I would have listened to it for hours. I've also snuck so much booze into shows back when I was younger, the most memorable was Aerosmith when I heard a rumour (no internet back then!!) they weren't selling alcohol at the show so my buddy and I got in two full pints of 101 Wild Turkey. We could have sold that shit at a major profit to all the people pissed about not being able to buy any, we just drank it instead, lol.

Oh yeah, if you ever get an opportunity to see a show at The Gorge in George, Washington do not pass it up. What an amazingly beautiful place to visit and the vibe is just out of this world! Can't wait for Labor-Dave weekend 202? when it returns!

Not quite a concert, but I just saw Andrew Dice Clay is coming to the House of Comedy at the Mall of America in March. I saw him about 11 years ago in Vegas at the Riveria and it was a fun time, so me and another pinball buddy are going. I'm so thrilled to be able to just go to something again. Maybe I'll bring my Adventures of Ford Fairlane crew jacket and try to get him to sign it.

I was on a first date in the 90s and sat in the front row at a comedy club in Hollywood. Dice Clay walks on stage to do an unannounced show, walks up to me and asks, "So how long you been f ing her". I made him laugh when he asked her if she was gonna marry me and I replied, Whoa, I'm already married". He could have buried me and he didn't. We went back and forth for awhile with me knowing that this might not end well. He is genuinely funny, has a microphone, and no matter what I say, can make me look stupid. At end of show waitress brang 2 beers and said Dice thought you were funny. And the girl and I had fun for months.

I saw dice clay warm up the Metallica Guns N’ Roses Motörhead show at the rose bowl in the nineties.
