Hey Everyone is the DC/Balt Areas - I find that many of us have parts, resources, tools, Expertise, help needed; ETC, but not a lot of ways to collaborate these resources other than the people we meet and network on our own or hope someone views on this forum. I thought I would start a string that is dedicated to the sharing of resources in our area because everyone I have met has things to offer but also things they need. So lets make those available to save each other here to save time and money. I will start...

***Trade PARTS Available - Lots of left overs from Addams Family and Creature Restorations new and used plastics, speaker panel, TAF Topper, lock down bar, Side rails, various new and used shop parts.
***Trade PARTS NEEDED - Right now looking for TAF GOLD "ROM" chip new or used. New B/W Pinball legs.
***TOOLS - Lots of standard Pinball tools but I also can do rivets with my home made rivet press. I have several spare DE backbox allen wrench "Tool" for trade.
***Expertise - I have worked on and restored lots of System 11 and WPC Games. Not a lot of expertise with earlier or New Sterns. I commute from Reston to Charles Town (Think Hollywood Casino/Harpers Ferry) and I enjoy and have assisted people along that route after work for free and as paid side jobs.
***No Assistance Needed at this time.

Interesting idea.. I can burn you a TAFG rom is you need. Hell, I can burn any ROM anyone needs, for that matter.

* Parts - Not much: Some cherry microswitches, older (EM) coils, WMS flipper links, etc.
* Parts Needed - Nothing right now.
* Tools - Whatever's usually needed for basic deconstruction. The more detailed work - like rivets 0- can't do.
* Expertise - I'm familiar with a LOT of WMS / WPS95. I was head tech for three, and helped open one of them back between '92-'99. Coil drivers, switch matrix issues, optos. Stregnths are with coin mechs, DBVs and pricing, as well as other arcade-related. (Redemption, ticket dispensers, etc.) Very knowledgable on Sample/Proto/Prod machine, the overall production lifestyle of WMS back then, as well as more specific programming specs with TZ, SC, and CV.
* Assistance - Soon I'll be re-assembling my TZ playfield. Free beer for anyone that wants to come over and help.
* Location - (I added this one..!) I live pretty darn close to the WV/VA state line, along the river. I work M-F down in Silver Spring, MD. During weekends, I will sometimes be working at my railroad (new Frederick, MD) or at home, or driving around anywhere.

#3 8 years ago

*Tools: I have a rivet press from Pin Restore and a hand rivet tool from Action Pinball, and tons of rivets and washers. Lots of standard tools (magnetic nut drivers, molex crimpers, tumbler, ultrasonic, etc).

*Assistance: I've done basic repairs and maintanence, but I'm looking to take it to the next level. I'm interested in shadowing someone who is doing flipper and pop bumper rebuilds, board work, buffing on a buffing wheel as these are the next "firsts" I'm looking to tackle and I'd like to do them right.

Hey Can you burn me a ROM today and I come pick it up? In return I can commit to helping with your TZ reassembly as I have owned and shopped two in the past.

I can, but it'll have to be later this evening - I won't get home today until about 7pm. (I'm off of 9, up near the VA/WV state line on Chestnut Hill Rd.)

#6 8 years ago

Example of how this Thread might help...two Saturdays ago I was doing some work on a pin and just needed a specific coil sleeve to complete a repair issue and I wanted to have one magically in appear in my hand rather than have to wait another week to order one. I did not realize that a guy right in my town had some in his parts stock and a five minute drive would have not shut down my operation for the entire day/week. Most of us are more than willing to share parts resources like this so lets help each other out!

#7 8 years ago

So far this has worked out great Coyote needs some Rivets done and I need some ROMs. We are saving each each other money and hassle!

Thanks Mike for the ROMS they worked Great! I will see what I can do about your Ramp flaps!

#9 8 years ago

Glad to have helped! Sorry my place was a mess, and I didn't have anything for you to play. (The jukebox DOES work, but without something else to do down there, it's not much use.. ) When I get your S15 done up, I'll bring it over to your place, and you can show me your stuffs.

#10 8 years ago

I always have spare parts around, rubber, LEDs, bulbs, tools. Also have a tumbler and getting an ultrasonic cleaner soon too.

#11 8 years ago

Anyone have a 29-400 coil they can spare? I'll replace it with a new one for you, but would like to get this pin fixed for an ATV trade on Sunday.

I bet Jess has one in stock. Glarronage get in here!

#13 8 years ago

Have one on order and hoping it arrives Fri or Sat, but if someone has one now I'd rather get the pin fixed sooner.

Hey Rick, Jess here in town has a bunch of coils in stock but they are 26-1500, 23-800, 26-1200, but does not see a 29-400. He wants to know if you meant a 24-900?

#15 8 years ago

It is a 29-400. This is what I ordered:

Classic Stern/Chicago Coin Pinball Coil J-21-375/29-400 & sleeve

#16 8 years ago

Okay he does not have that one in stock. Sorry I don't either!

#17 8 years ago

Sorry I'm late guys. Thanks for relaying that info Steve! Bump for a great thread.

#18 8 years ago

I'm in central VA but often help people out that need parts for quick fixes etc. I have a third hand rivet tool as well as an upholstery stapler for ground braid and pop lamp leads. I also make playfield rails for restorations.

#19 8 years ago

I have a new set and a slightly used set of Stern/Sega/DE mirror blades and am looking to trade for Bally/Williams mirror blades for Shadow. If you have a spare pair and want to trade, let me know. Thanks.

I gots one, it's pretty quick, too. (Though unprotected, so you REALLY need to turn it off before opening it up. ) I'm down Chestnut Hill from 340 or 9.

#24 8 years ago

You two should meet each other if you haven't yet regardless...Coyote I have not forgotten about your ramp flaps I am hoping to do it this weekend.

No problem! Did you figure out how?

I'm about ready to install the ramps in the game. After looking at them, only one has the blue that *has* to be replaced (rusty) - all the others are just dull, not rusty.

Edit: And once my game IS up and running, I will clean out the basement somewhat and invite folks over to play it.

Hey -
Was wondering if anyone local had a micrometer.

I have a piece from my jukebox, in which requires small E-clips. Unfortunately, due to a mistake on my part, I lost all of them. So, I need to order more, and I'd rather not try and guess at the size, ordering 10 or 15 bags of 100 e-clips in various sizes only to use 4 of them once I find the size. D'oh.

If anyone has a WPC (not -95) power driver board they don't mind letting me borrow for a day, I need to run a test to see if my PinLED power board is the culprit. I'm thinking it is, but I don't have another game or board to test my theory on.

Update-"Coyote" I hope those ramp flaps work out for you. Thanks again for burning the chips for me a while and showing me your amazing TZ and Nudge-IT! I can't wait till you have that TZ all back together. That playfield is BEAUTIFUL and your sample machine has some cool history! I am really glad I met you through this thread and you have a ton of knowledge and skills that can help anyone in the upper NOVA/WV Panhandle area! Also "POMC" thanks for helping me out with my Freddy and I am glad my friend was able to get your board work done. "Glarrownage" thanks for finding me that old coil it worked perfectly for my Freddy. I am hoping to return the favor!

Anyone else in the area need assistance or have skills/tools to trade. This seems to have worked great for me. I love meeting people in the hobby

#30 8 years ago

Hey!
Thanks again for everything you did! I won't be able to get them together until after my trip out to Colorado, but after the holidays, expect a PM from me to come and tackle the TZ beast.

If anyone in the local area wants a traffic signal, I have a few extras that need to go.

For the few if your that have been in my basement, tug know what they look like.

Most of then saw service in DC. They all work, but don't look new in the least. Large (sizes vary, but are usually about 40" high, 13" wide), but not heavy.

Between $10 and $35. If anyone is interested, drop me a PM. Otherwise I'll recycle them. Figured if anyone has a game room and wants something hanging up in a corner, here you go.

Hey all -
Anyone nearby have a spare ULN2803 chip? Somehow mine blew, and I don't have any replacements handy. I'll return it as soon as my next order comes in.

Hey Everyone is the near panhandle region! I thought I would resurrect this thread up again because a few of the collectors/hobbyists/restores in this area have been able to help me out lately with a few parts and services when I needed them. Everyone is welcome to share some parts or services with me here locally. Pinsider, Glarrownage, was very generous and gave me some nice used playfield glass probably more than I will need in the near future. So if that is something you want or need and want to trade swap etc feel free! I met Coyote through this and he is now a good friend and helps me out all the time and I try to reciprocate (I.e. HUNDREDS of new and used Incandescent bulbs lol) We all have these parts and services locally don't throw things away and don't hesitate to if you need anything like I needed a new or used test coil last night with Glarrownage.

#36 7 years ago

I also have a coin door from a demo man (I think...it came in a box of spare used parts when I purchased it from the previous owner). I would be willing to trade it if someone has something they also want to get rid of

#37 7 years ago

I'm here!
I'm not in the need for anything YET, but I can burn ROMs for folks that want/need them. Can also supply Jukebox 45's.

Wondering if anyone else from the area is going to go to the Gettysburg auction tomorrow? I'll be up there..!

#39 7 years ago

I can't go I have wedding preparation (My Son gets married next Sat)...Mike if you go keep us updated!

Congrats!
.. I think! I went back in spring, but didn't pay much attention to the pin prices. (Other than knowing some were outrageously high - buybacks, likely - and there was one or two that were very good based on game condition.) I'll pay closer attention tomorrow.

Quoted from bigd1979:

Was thinking about it but the lady has to work so i gotta see if i can steal her car .....

If you make it, lemme know. I'll be there probably around 9. It's fun to be able to play some of these games. ..You know, for 'testing' and 'evaluation' purposes.

#42 7 years ago

Hey guys - got back a little while ago, I think the auction went well. Bigger than this past spring, for sure. After dinner, I'll post pin prices and comments.

#43 7 years ago

ARGH. I had the whole thing typed out, and my cat walked across my keyboard and wiped the whole thing.

Try this again. I took notes on some games. Some I did not. Some I played, a lot I did not. In short, assume the game is in worse shape than my notes, they being cursory at best. The first price is the hammer price. The price in []'s is the 'Buy It Now' price. Walk-out prices were Hammer price + 13% buyers fee, then + 6% PA sales tax of total.

BTTF $1400
Whirlwind (bad PF) $950
Demo Man $1900
Spy Hunter $750
Doodle Bug $250
Blue Chip $325
Taxi (horrible leds, no cabinet art, but came with decals) $1100
Kind of steel 450 [$695]
Meteor (weak flips, wrong caps, pf wear, mem coils bad, sound bad) $600 [$1295]
Black Belt $650 [$1495]
Soccer $175 [$695]
Road Kings $550 [$1595]
F14 $1000 [$1595]
Monday Night Football $450 [$1995]
Future Spa $1295 [$400]
Fun Fest $175 [$595]
Royal Flush $400 [$995]
Flintstones $1300
Rescue 911 (no display, game played) $550
Time Zone $225 [$795]
NGG $3500
Corvette (in good condition, racetrack worked, dirty) $2200
New York $450
Showtime $250
Space Shuttle $1000
F14 $800
Twister (BB light out, game played) $1100
Ripleys $1800
Road Show (bad dozer sensor, red eyelids broke, ted's face loose) $1800
VirtualPin Ultrapin (...really?!) $1200
TAF (thing inop, bookcase bad, pf wear over mansion inserts) $4600
Dipsy Doodle $200
Pharoh (inop) $225

Interestingly, NO games were bought with the BIN prices. Plus, MOST of the BIN prices were over twice the hammer price. What a sad state, IMHO.

There were maybe double the pins, and a lot more private sellers than in April. Maybe about 50% more vids, as well, but not many A titles.

I could use a nice coin door with frame bolts & lockdown bar for a TOM

Just to keep this thread from falling into the crevices..

Who here has a Dirty Harry that they're thinking of getting rid of?

#46 7 years ago

Just saw this thread and think it's a great idea. I'm still only a year into the hobby and, though you all seem much more experienced at repairs, I'd be happy to help in anyway that I can. I don't have any specialized tools but I am pretty creative when it comes to developing/installing fixes.

I don't have a lot of extra parts but do have some extras laying around. I have a decent condition (7.5/8 out of 10) original TZ translite and a bally/Williams standard dmd (fully working) if anyone is looking for either of those.

I'll definitely favorite this thread and will throw in offers to help when I can.

#47 7 years ago

I also have a couple balky/Williams black legs (they'd clean up well) and plenty of assorted LEDs.

#48 7 years ago

Thought I'd chime in here.
I didn't see many if any from PA on this thread. I'm in central PA and always willing to help out with pins.
I have done several flipper rebuilds, pop rebuids, clean ups, and some basic board repairs (replace bad transistors, caps, battery pack relocation ). I like to add creative lighting to pins and ive installed a color DMD.
I have more experience with Sega/ Data East / early Stern games.
I have LEDS on hand, springs, sleeves, misc hardware, couple shooter rods, and probably more.
I don't need anything right now. Available to help out locally if I can.

Hey Everyone-I just purchased a 5 lb Tumbler from Harbor Freight over the weekend. I also joined the cult of Evapo-rust also purchased from Harbor Freight...THAT STORE is DANGEROUS!!!. I have read up on a lot of peoples experience with both and so far I have found that EVAPO-RUST works great and eats the rust off if I leave the items soaking for 24 hours. I then pull them out and throw them in the Tumbler for 24 hours. I found that doing this and keeping the number of items in the tumbler to a small number gives the best results. Not a stainless steel polish but it looks pretty nice. My current project is a 1969 EM "Fast Ball" Williams Pitch and Bat machine. Now I typically don't work on EM machines but since the machine was mostly working and is fun to play I decided to tear it completely apart so I have lots of parts to clean and polish. This was kept in a garage so lots of light rust on everything metal.

ANYWAY- if anyone has need of tools or Tumbler locally you are welcome to stop by. I know or have talked to many of you but if you are in the Eastern Panhandle or close by (Leesburg, Winchester, Frederick, Hagerstown etc) and we have not met lets get together.

6 months later
#50 6 years ago

Bumping this thread, since I don't think enough locals actually pay attention, or even know of this thread.

And, plus -
I need to borrow someone's riveter! If anyone local has one! I have a couple plastics I need to get bonded back together, and the hammer rivets don't work very well when there's no metal to bind against.
