    Quoted from PinballBeerGuy:

Looking forward to trying out Killer Queen (if it's there)

I sure hope Logan's Arcade brings it back!

Only Vid I played (after a little arm twisting) and WOW was it fun!

    #15 8 years ago

Just want to cross link a fun little contest I am putting on all by myself (not anything official with MGC but was given the OK by Dan; thanks DAN).

MGC 'RARE' pinball challenge. Bring a sweet rare game and win some cool prizes from me.

    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/midwest-gaming-rare-challenge

    #25 8 years ago
    Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

You may have to find your own beer money for the after party next year, Dan. But there'll be a lot more room to move.

I am confused??? Are you not coming to MGC Mr Kelly?

    #27 8 years ago
    Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

It's not looking good, Hilton. My wife is telling me I've got somewhere more important to go that weekend.

Well that is a huge bummer! Totally understand, esp after meeting your wonderful wife. You better continue to do everything you can to stay in her good graces

    #43 8 years ago
    Quoted from krivoap:

Ok, was trying to describe the event to my wife when I noticed she was already on the website buying us tickets! We are in for Tom's event, the VIG Friday night, and a weekend pass. Now discussing if we commute or book a hotel

book a hotel! seriously the only way to do this show. Also, bring a game/2 so you can both come to the after party (the highlight of the show and a super fun adult time). MGC is amazing!

    #46 8 years ago
    Quoted from Ranhorton:

    Ok.
I can't miss MGC this year just because I moved to New Jersey. Starting my flight research now...

best news I have heard all week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    #47 8 years ago
    Quoted from krivoap:

Ok hotel room booked...now to discuss whether or not to bring a game or two.

ummmmm.... There really is no practical reason to not bring a game.

Pros : It is super fun!
Seeing someone else enjoy your game will make you happy and proud.
Giving back to the community is the cool thing to do.
Centerflank and Bangerjay have promised to personally teabag all games this year
    Hand sanitizer stations are plentiful
There will be so many games you want to play but the hall will get busy during peak times making that tough, so bringing a game gets you into the hall with a less than 1 person per game ratio at the afterparty
Afterparty also means beer, dollar games, great food, and hanging out and making connecitons with other great pinball collectors.
There are many more but if you aren't convinced from that, then I dont know what it take.

MGC is like xmas even and bringing a game means you are santa. Who the F does not like being santa and partying with all the other santas???

    #50 8 years ago
    Quoted from epthegeek:

This isn't actually true is it? Sure, the after party crowd is far smaller than the full attendance - but it's not actually less people than games is it? Don't the guys bringing all those multicades in the back hall, and the games in the basement earn bands too?

pretty sure you have to have a game in the arcade hall to get a wrist band? I know a few voulenteers and other folks get in also, but after the first hour or so it is WAY less than 1 person per game ratio. Heck by 11pm I think you could play pretty much anything you wanted with absolutely no wait (aside from TH and AMH and a select few other super popular games). Entire empty rows of games which you could hop on any one of them.

By far the best game to person ratio I have ever seen. After the initial rush of food and chaos then it settles down pretty quick. Last year there were more people out playing the tiltmaster game (what the heck is that thing called again) in the hallway than anything it seemed.

    #72 8 years ago
    Quoted from Crashnburn:

I thought I read that in order to get a VIP ticket, you had to buy tickets for Sat. and Sun. If this is true, the badge could be good for the whole weekend. Either way it's good.

problem is that people would walk in with the badge and then hand it back out the door to someone else and repeat. Pretty sad and pisses me off. As a guy that brings games to the show and shares them, to have someone stealing form the show is like stealing from all the collectors that share their stuff.

Last year there was a group of scum bags that made fake braclets for the afterparty. Last year they just got the nice boot. This year I will make sure I alert the correct people to have them escorted from the property permenantly.

agreed! Need a completely NEW line up of the competitive games with representation from all eras Granted the tough part is making sure to get duplicates of games that play similar enough...

it is stressing me out man!!!! I am in no way ready for MGC this year.

We have got to get out to this show! Everyone raves about it. This year is looking like we cut it too close with the hotel being sold out.

    FAST Pinball

I think there is a partner hotel just 1/2 block away with rooms left? (close enough to walk if you need to)

    #153 8 years ago

If you opt to fly out on Friday morning I can likely pick you up from the airport in MKE.

I usually arrive early to get games set up for clock chaos but could take a mid-morning break to scoop you up from the airport. Just PM me if you decide to do it.

    #155 8 years ago

keep me posted. Flights are usually pretty reasonable into MKE.

    #159 8 years ago
    Quoted from goatdan:

The hotels even have free airport pickup in case that doesn't work out One of our requirements for working with us. Keep me posted!

never knew that. Great info and service to have!

    #160 8 years ago

    Hey Dan,

Any chance of getting some food trucks in the parking lot of the hotel during prime times on Friday night and all day Sat?

That was a great thing at TPF that should be incorporated if possible. I know there is food over at the mall just across the way, but food carts are all the rage and some better options. I am guessing a few MKE based food carts would jump at the opportunity of a captive audience for the weekend.

    #182 8 years ago

    GREAT NEWS!!!!

You should reach out to Andrew at Heighway Pinball to see if he wants to fly over. Since we will have a Full Throttle there all he has to do is fly over himself.

    #195 8 years ago
    Quoted from timtim:

not sure if I'll go if I can only get one party pass. I understand the situation but I can't just ditch my buddy, plus that was one of the things that made the show seem worth the 7.5 hr drive

There is lots to see and do aside form the afterparty. I have a few friends that dont bring a game and they usually ditch out on sat when things shut down for the aftery party and go catch a movie or hit up some of the local route pinball spots.

Aside form that you could possible buy a game there and try to negotiate the show pass.

If you were going to be in on Friday you could possibly offer to voulenteer for the day and get a pass??

    #199 8 years ago
    Quoted from mr2xbass:

I have however heard stories of some people who every year try to bring the same busted up machine and it doesn't ever even boot up but they claim "I don't know, it was working just before I packed it up". That's some bs.

They have gotten very strict on this. I watched a few people get told to take their junk and load it back up last year. It put a smile on my face as one has brought the same beat up barely hobbling along game for a few years.

MGC has limited space so they are much better abouy making sure junk does not take up that valuable space.

    #202 8 years ago
    Quoted from timtim:

I would have to use jumpers to get it on freeplay

you could also set credits to max and then stop but to credit it up every so often.

I think there are others that have wired the start button into the credit switch also to make it work?

    #217 8 years ago
    Quoted from mr2xbass:

Today marks one week until the show (VIG) and eight days until the MPC tournament. Seems like a good time to make the announcement for the MPC lineup. Maybe the big reveal will happen at the preview event tonight at Binary. Goatdan....?

do they ever announce title in advance?

I thought we just typically showed up and games were there?

    #218 8 years ago

reminds me, I better go clean up my Fishtales and actually play it a couple of times before I bring it

    #222 8 years ago
    Quoted from mkecasey:

Will you be announcing Clock Chaos games?

sure, when I figure out what they actually are, LOL.

Chaos is chaotic all the way around so I never really know until the day of the event and usually about 2 hrs before it starts.

As of now, Creech, DM, and Star Trek are the 3 that people have commited to using.

I am still working on finding another solid state/non-DMD and a fun/good EM to use. Those will probably be found as games come in the door and I find a willing owner. Ideally they would both be GTB games to bring some more diversity to the line up.

    #224 8 years ago
    Quoted from TomGWI:

Maybe Eric can squeeze Melody into his packed truck.

great, I will bring my matches and gasoline

    #230 8 years ago
    Quoted from aahgo:

I don't know what your criteria for a fun/good EM is. I am bringing Swing Along (2 player), Flipper Clown (AAB), & Wing Ding (AAB). You are welcome to use any of them if they fit your needs. However, I do not usually attend the Friday night activities, so I will not be there during CC.

Will you be loading in early on Friday?

    #238 8 years ago
    Quoted from aahgo:

Yes. I plan on dropping the games off at the hall and then go over to Tom T's to help out over there. After Tom's Open house, I'll come back to the hall and make the games are working correctly.

sounds great! I'll be there early on Friday. When you check in please tell Tully/Jaz/etc that one of your games is going to be available for clock chaos and you need to find me. They will point you in my direction and we will figure it out. I am not sure which will be best to use for tourney play but we'll check them out and figure it out. I do have 1 other possible EM to use but not sure just yet.

I am thinking the non AAB may be best but not sure as I am not well versed in EMs.

THANKS for offering up a game!!!

    #240 8 years ago

you are missing 50 or so other games that are notable in John Trudeaus career.

    #252 8 years ago
    Quoted from aahgo:

How early on Friday can I drop my games off? Earlier the better for me.

    I think around 10?

I am not sure how early they allow games to be dropped off on Friday.

Jazman, Tully, Tom... What do you say?

    #309 8 years ago

Please update the list to include Scott Gillicks as another ViP

    #344 8 years ago

Over 180 working pins alredy loaded in!! Woot woot.

Of course tons of vids, board games, counsel stuff etc...

But WOW what a great assortment. Going to be tough competiton for the rare game challenge!

    #387 8 years ago
    Quoted from craigj:

Thinking of coming back on Sunday with my son. How many pins will be there still, most?

Still the vast MAJORITY on the floor and playing good. I just left the afterparty and WOW what a blast! I did not know MGC could get even better. I counted 190 pins on site today and probably missed a few since they are in all places in the venue. Found 6 more in a side room this afternoon i did not even know about plus a few others downstairs. The majority i played were playing great. More games than ever before and more still on and playing well than i have seen before. I think many are priced at "i am not selling but take pride in my games and wanted to share them with others prices" which is a big positive of this show. Still plenty of deals and great games. My wife bought another game tonight and did well

So proud to be part of helping make this show what it is and all the people that put int the time to make it so much FUN!

    #390 8 years ago

Just did a physical count and i have 176 pins still on the floor. I think only a handful are not functioning but hopefully owners are rocking to get them back up for another great day. If you need any parts to bring something back to life, just ask. Good chance someone has it.

    #406 8 years ago

    just got home.

    beat but still smiling!

    WOW! what a great show!

    #423 8 years ago
    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

another great year. Still my favorite show out of all the pinball shows I attend. Thanks to everyone who made the show possible. Everything ran smooth. Exhausting but smooth. Pingolf was a little hecktic to run, but wasn't to bad. Bottle necking was a minimum. Only had one game really slow everything down. I'll try and streamline it even more for next year. Lots of great games there, and in excellent condition. Spent most of my time talking as usual. Ghostbusters was great to play. Still a little unbalanced on the scoring in spots, but is coming along great.

pingolf made many improvements over last year and I am sure it will be even better next year! Thanks for running it Neo!

I wil be talking with Dan about moving up chaos timing (4-10; with 10pm playoff) for next year so we dont have the conflict of playoffs liek chaos and golf had this year. I want people to be able to play in both playoffs and not have anyone rushed or hold others up, so this should be a simple way to make it work even smoother for next year!

    #425 8 years ago

A few personal highlights for me of the show weekend.

Rob came over on Wed pre show to help work on a few games and drink bourbon. Good times with what I consider to be a friend and great tech toutor

Scott G came down on Thursday to hang and drink more. Scott managed to place 1st at the Alt Brew monthly/ MGC warmup tournament which was sweet.

Chaos went really well this year and special thanks to the guys that loaned me your game for it. They were great games and a really fun line up to use! I think we ended up with 90 players this year which was 30 more than previous years but everything stayed on time. Special thanks to Brice for scorekeeping all day!

I enjoyed many of the great and diverse games on the floor this year. The vast majority played REALLY well and so nice to see the pride that many put into these games! Makes MGC extra fun when you get to play such beauties. Special thanks to Chuck for letting Troy bring Goin Nuts and Troy for bringing it!

My personal highlight was my wife not only qualifying for the main tourney but ending up in 14th place. Pretty sure she was both the highest femal qualifier and the highest female finisher! Really fun to see her do so well and make it through the first round with some great playing on Harlem.

    #432 8 years ago
    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

Personally, I think it would be easier to cut golf off sooner, than it would be for you.

there was actually a hiccup this year which caused us to need to start chaos earlier in order to just fit the number of people that were even signed up (oops in the system which allowed 96 people to sign up for the normal 75 slots).

It ended up being perfect that we started at 4pm and that golf started at 6pm so those that wanted to arrive earlier had something to do after getting loaded in. Chaos running with slots from 4pm to 9:40 with playoffs starting at 10pm is what we will be doing for next year.

Without the constraint of having golf finals overlapping w/ chaos (assuming you stay with 11:15 playoff start time for golf) then chaos finals will be done in 1hr easy and anyone that makes golf playoffs will be all ready by your start time.

    #435 8 years ago

Typing up chaos results and FullT results tonight and then will submit to IFPA so should be up in a few days.

    #448 8 years ago
    Quoted from Borygard:

Special thanks to Hilton and Madison Pinball for the loan of Full Throttle for the charity tournament. Last I heard they raised $170 for the local no-kill shelter. Taro loves you!!

confirming > $171 raised for the shelter. After I catch up on life later this week I will make the donation and post the reciept.

Thanks again for letting us host the launch charity event Rob!

    #465 8 years ago
    Quoted from goatdan:

I have two of the trophies yet because the games got pulled before close for these

sounds like a good reason to change a rule for next year?

"Game must be at show close in order to be eligible for award"

    #481 8 years ago
    Quoted from Jazman:

Good ideas. But it's also important that it's easy enough to manage. The more complex things get, the harder it is to manage, the more likely mistakes get made, and people get pissed.
    KISS...
    Jaz

$10 extra show cash if your game is there and ON at 4pm on Sunday? KISS

Simple and better than a shirt or some swag. It plays double duty since it means more cash for vendors at the end also.

I think we also need to do better about removing/preventing games that dont work from being at the show. I know others mentioned it, but I also saw the DM that was off for the entire show. Wasted space and we should figure out a way to deal with those.

As for vids, I would like to see a system that treats them more like the cocktails, 1/2 value. I walk the hall alot and it is pretty apparent that the majority of the customers are there for the pins. While a select few vids get played heavily there are others that are just taking up space (which is valuable).

    #485 8 years ago
    Quoted from bangerjay:

    Broken games are cheaper

easy enough to bring them and leave them in the vehicle. Still easy to do a parking lot deal if someone is just bring ing to try and sell?

    #489 8 years ago
    Quoted from Jazman:

But we aren't going to start discouraging people from bringing vids.

I meant more so to encourage them to bring GOOD vids and leave the others at home.

Similarly I think all shows need to start thinking about how to incentivize more based on quality of games fro pins. I know a few guys that specifically now own a "show" game. This is typically less desirable title that is pretty beat. They get it working just enough to get it in the door and set a high enough price on it that nobody in theri right mind would pay it. I even specifically heard 2 guys at expo last year talking about how they bring the same clunker to every show just to get the perks.

More ways to incentivize more good playing and quality games (both vids and pins) is always good IMHO.

As for vids in partciular; I really dont care for them but would have definately played that killer queen game had it come back

    #491 8 years ago
    Quoted from epthegeek:

Maybe some better prizes for the 'best in show' bit, to hopefully encourage people to bring in nicer games? You'd have to do some sort of a judging group for determining winners though, and leave the after party vote to a 'peoples choice' kind of deal, since very few people seem to care.

This is a great idea and something I was thinking about for the rare challenge next year.

Ask people to submit in advance and then we tag the rare games. During the after party a team of judges will go together and play all of the rare games and fill out a scoring sheet to select winners.

    Things like:
    Aesthethic quality
    Playing 100%
    Rareness
    Restoration work done

will be judged independantly and then all score combined from all judges.

Definately room to improve how we are upping the competiont to bring great games!

    #498 8 years ago
    Quoted from icust298:

Just a thought, but offer a limited number of tickets to the Saturday After Party for sale. $50-100 a pop, use that cash to fund prizes for the people that bring games. You sell 50 tickets at $50, and you've got $2500 in cash to give out for Best in Show, or whatever. That would be a pretty nice incentive to bring a top notch game.

    respectfully disagree.

Want to get into the after party, then there is only 1 criteria... Bring a game to share. After party is one of the best things about bringing a game. Take away that incentive and fewer games will show up IMO.

side note that is you think the effort to bring a game is only $50 then I am not sure what to say. $200 to buy an after party ticket and we may be getting close to the value. I still would say no way to selling after party tickets.

    #499 8 years ago
    Quoted from Tilt:

Also, Hilton, your on your comments about the rare challenge. If you make judgements based on your criteria, then your just screwing up the fun about it.

Keep in mind the rare challenge was something I did for fun and nothing associate with the show. I spend a couple hundred bucks doing it just because I wanted to.

This year I left "rare" to the public of gaming bringgers and unfortunately voter turnout was low. I think next year the possibility of bringing in some judges to evalute games that are part of the rare challenge will get a better showing.

I would love to have you be part of it Troy. I want to make it more fun and not less. Rare is something that lacks full definition and varies form person to person so I would expect some variation from judges similar to the voting public variation we saw this year. I want to build this for next year and make it even better! If we get enough capable judges then it will all work out and keep it fair AND fun!

    #505 8 years ago
    Quoted from Lame33:

MGC was great this year. It seems like we are trying to over tweak that 2% we got marked off on our A+ 98% showing.

agreed! but still fun to try and do better

    #513 8 years ago
    Quoted from goatdan:

One of the things we determined was to really clamp down on tickets given out to it, which we did this past year.

I really appreciate it also! This after party was the BEST ever and largely becuase you could tell that things had been clamped down on for afterparty tickets and there were fewer total people than in years past.

I still can't believe how much better everything was this past year! My favorite show and it continues to amaze me how much better it gets!!!!

    #519 8 years ago
    Quoted from Jediturtle:

for determining who has the "more deserving" games. :/

I can't imagine opening that ball of crap.

1 game = 1 AP tic. Keeps it simple and easy

    Quoted from Jediturtle:

they are somehow better than someone who can only bring a "beater".

beaters are great, so long as they play good.

    #530 8 years ago

Clock Chaos results are already in IFPA.
Full Throttle has been reported and should show up in a few days.

Dan and Neo, Any status update on results for the main tourney and pingolf?

    #536 8 years ago
    Quoted from CaptainNeo:

Did you submit your results yourself?

    Yeah,

I registered and submitted them myself in order to speed it up.

Dan, If you or Jim need me to submit the main event results then please get me the info and I can assist.

    #542 8 years ago
    Quoted from CraigC:

what was the deal with the police action going on? does anyone know the story?

I overheard someone on Friday (not a pinhead) drank a little too much and was a bit too offensive to some of the female security.
I heard the same guy and his buddies attempted to sneek in to the afterparty on Saturday and they were escorted off the property. I was told it was basically a non-event as security did a great job and the police backed them up quickly to remove the offender/s.

    #545 8 years ago
    Quoted from ekthoren:

I really like this with the trophies but if you want to expand it to other categories or 1st, 2nd, 3rd I'm good with that too. I'm not sure if that will help with people bringing "better" machines but it won't hurt and advertise what the categories are ahead of time so people can make an effort to win it.

    I agree.

More categories, advertised in advance, and trophies through 3rd for the main catergories would be great incentive.

    THANKS everyone involved!

Dan, what is your estimate for getting golf and main tourney results submitted to IFPA?

This is something important to many people and timeliness is also important. aSide from that, i get asked on a regular basis and would like to have an answer for them.

    #561 7 years ago
    Quoted from goatdan:

They were both submitted, one on Monday, one yesterday. Not sure when they go up.

    great and thanks!

    #562 7 years ago
    Quoted from goatdan:

They were both submitted, one on Monday, one yesterday. Not sure when they go up.

make sure you find the confirmation emails and click the links Dan. IFPA submission is a 2 part process now.

    Step 1. Submit results
Step 2. Confirm results once you get the email

There will be a separate email for each event you submit, so be sure you find both and confirm.
