I bought a Wild Kingdom a while back, and recently started tearing into it. I rewired the power switch, and the unit now gets power, which is good! Before, it would trip my outlet every time and not power on, but now there are many problems, very likely due to the previous owner's wiring hackjob. Some of the backglass lights were coming on, such as the top row, and the top score lights, but after I was undoing the previous owner's mess, they no longer do. The game over light never came on, and still doesn't. The only way I can get the game to start is to manually trip the Start coil, and when I do this, the Top Score Motor Unit spins infinitely. As soon as the cab is turned on, the Game Over relay pulls closed, so I think that the game knows it's supposed to be in Game Over mode, and that's not the problem.

I've tried establishing a better connection via soldering between the yellow wire leading from the transformer to the BG lights, as well as the white wire leading from the lights to the fuse block. Some smaller strands of the wire weren't soldered. Doing this, as well as trying to use alligator clips to test it yielded no lights coming on behind the backglass.

Any help appreciated, especially which problem to tackle first, there's so many I'm a little overwhelmed.

It looks like they tried to rig up something to make the game free play. The wires on the belly board used to go to a 115VAC outlet - I would not worry about that. Just make sure the wires are not exposed - you still have the voltage on them.

I would start by removing the cobbled up wiring to the credit unit - and before removing anything, make a drawing showing where the wires went, just in case. By making a drawing of the hacks, you might be able to make sense of what the person was trying to do.

After you remove the hacked wiring, check the switches on the credit unit to make sure they are per the schematic. Then, while still in the backbox, verify the switches on the score reels are working properly - especially the zero position switches.

I would keep the GI lighting issues as the last thing to work on - my preference is to get the game functional, then work on the pretty things.

Woof! What kind of shape are the score reels in? I'd personally remove the assemblies and clean/relube them before moving forward. A lot of the game control is controlled from those wipers/circuit boards.

Okay, thank you. How can I tell what position on the Control Unit correlates to what degree? Will i be able to see any markings if i disassemble it? Im having trouble with this

I own this machine, it is in pristine condition if you need photos of anything.

I'm not familiar with Midway machines, but your best bet is to use the schematics and wire color code to find the start or end of game position. Ask Dugmar for pics, too.

Sweet, thanks! I'll likely need some pics at some point

Not sure if HUO or not. I only know the history going back about 20 years. But yes, the entire interior of the game is quite nice and 100% unaltered.
