Midway Terminator 2 - Judgement Day

So, not a very rare game but pretty fun one of my all time favorite movies.

Started collecting art for it many years ago. Was able to find a NOS control panel overlay, NOS marquee translite and Dan Parino remade the side art for it.

A machine showed up locally a little while back so i grabbed it.

Its got some mileage but its in decent shape.

I was hoping to salvage the cabinet but the side art is faded and peeling up (not easy to remove) and the wood has chunks out of it and some swelling near the bottom. In other words, not worth repairing with TONS of sanding, bondo, paint, etc. Makes more sense to spend that time building a new cabinet.

The gutted cabinet. Going to carefully pull that serial number sticker off the back.

Pulling apart the guns. RUST! Fun stuff.

Also the rubber stopper was completely disintegrated. (pointing to where its suppose to be)

Marco used to sell the whole assembly but its out of stock so i'll need to improvise.

Gun parts are cleaning up well. Grenade button is like new again. It was gunked up.

Sand blasted the metal gun plates as well as the gun bases. The bases will be painted black and clear coated.

25 inch NeoTec monitor is pretty clean, has the slightest burn on it but has a nice, bright picture.

    IMG_8939 (resized).jpgIMG_8939 (resized).jpg

    #7 6 years ago

The image on the monitor reflects off this smoked glass mirror. The mirror has these starburst images on the back that light up with 906 flasher bulbs when there's an explosion in the game.

The monitor bezel is in pretty good shape. The ink on the edges has rubbed off a bit but its black so an easy touchup.

Marquee is trashed, it has warped from the heat of the lights and has been taped in the back which has yellowed. Will replace with NOS marquee.

Control panel is beat up pretty bad and the color is faded out. Will be cutting a new one and applying this NOS CPO

Unrolled the side art from Dan Parino. Was in a tube for about 3 years i think.

Bad news, the quality is absolute crap-ola.
    1. Scratches through the black and red ink.
    2. Red outer border is WAY off too. No matter how i adjust it red its too thin, too thick or sometimes completely off the cabinet. NOT happy. Waste of time and money.

If your going to do something, just do it right. That's why 9 out of 10 times i make my own stuff, seems like very few care about quality anymore.

Thankfully my buddy Rich at thisoldgame.com has recreated T2 side art recently, so i'll order it from him.

I always love to read your threads and see the amazing difference between before/after game shape.

OK, back at this thing. Finally got new side art. Took a couple weeks because my order got mixed up, the side art has traveled some 4,000 miles i think. Oregon to New Jersey to Connecticut to Arizona to California.

Some progress! Got the side art from This Old Game installed, well except the front (he forgot it - DOH) But thats ok, i'll get it soon.

    Installed the T-Molding.

Got the guns to work (one was wired backwards, that took a bit to figure out since it came that way from the seller)

PCBs, coin door, monitor, lights, speakers, power, all hooked up.

Are you restoring this for yourself or will you sell once it's completed?

    #45 6 years ago

Thanks, I wonder how many working T2s are still out there in any condition.

both my arcade collector friends local have them. It wasn't till I played it in a home collection that I ever knew about the hit lighting effects

    Keeping this one.

Yeah, in a chaotic, poorly lit arcade I’m sure the effect was lost on most players including me.
