I just got an original Medival madness. The test shows switch 24, 48 and 68 errors. What does that mean and how is it fixed? I’m pretty handy but I don’t know what that means. Any help would be appreciated!!!

I also touched the two wires on this bulb just now and all of the lights at the top went out. Any ideas?

Hopefully just a blown fuse. Check fuse F110, F11, F112, F113 and F114 in the back box on the power driver board. Stop working on your game while it's turned on.

Switch 24 - Always Closed (unused switch are you sure this is the correct switch number the error message says?)
Switch 48 - Right Top Lane
Switch 68 - Right Loop High

Because switch 48 and switch 68 are in the same row, I would guess that you have a loose wire. The White-Gray wire loops between all of the switches in the #8 row. I would look at each switch in the row (18, 28, 38, 48, 58, 68) and make sure that there are two white-gray wires coming to one of the leads on each switch (One switch will only have one as it's the end of the chain)

Where are those switches?

I uploaded a picture of the playfield switch locations with the numbers.

Pump house….I didn’t think of that. Ugh

Are they behind the light box?

Post #5 is a picture of the playfield, where they are. He circled the switches in light red.

The fuses are inside the "light box" or backbox

The switches are underneath the playfield (you should remove all the balls before lifting the playfield.

I found the fuse. I can’t find the switch

Look at the picture I posted of the playfield, it has the switch number in a circle with an arrow pointing at the switch...

I dont get it, in this thread you say you found the switch an hour ago

I found the fuse. I don’t know where the switch is. It’s my first pin. Sorry

Look at the last picture I posted, I circled them in red. They are black and they have a little metal wire that pokes up through a slot cut in the bottom of the playfield.

#22 1 year ago

I see where 68 position is on the board but what does the switch look like? Is it the thing underneath that the thin metal goes down and touches?

Don't worry about it, nobody knows this stuff when they first get into pinball.

Ok looks like I have to order one?

Everybody starts somewhere.

Post your location. Maybe a collector can give you some hands on help. So you learn a little and don't damage your game.

No, don't throw parts or money at it. Figure out the issue. Need adjusting ? Broken wire ? Things like that.

Tests - Switch Edge - push the switch see if it registers on the screen. If not push other switches so you can see how that test works.

#29 1 year ago

Ok I’ll do that

#30 1 year ago

Just close the machine up and play it for a while. Neither switch not working is a game killer. Play the machine for a while and familiarize yourself with it. Then come back to us to fix this issue in a month

I’m afraid at your current experience level you are going to damage the machine trying to fix it

Did you buy this game as fully working? Maybe consider reaching out to the seller, see if he can swing by and show you some basics of pinball repair. Youtube, Pinwiki, and Pinside are all great resources for learning. The info is out there, you just have to put some work in to find it. If you're looking to get into pinball repairs, consider buying a project early solid state Bally or Williams, and start there after doing some reading/watching.

Looks like there are other pinballers in your area that might be able to lend a hand:

Someone help this guy before he shocks himself or smokes a transistor. I would but I’m too far away.

#35 1 year ago

I occasionally go around the 35 or so solid state games to check for switch errors including MM. Half the time it's just a switch that hasn't been activated in a long while. One that comes to mind is the cup in Diner. Regular customers have a hard time as it's a timed/diverter shot.

This community is pretty cool! Thanks for all the advice!

#37 1 year ago

Here's a piece of advice for a newbie, never get a nut driver or screwdriver messing around in there with the power on.

#38 1 year ago

Yep. Learned that yesterday. ‍♂️

I would take Chad up on his offer .
A quick how to and what not to do is always the best way to go.

We’ve connected. I’m going to try and get him fixed up in the next day or so.

I would never say this.

I would say that wherever you buy your pinball from, make sure you have a path to getting it repaired.

Ideally, a local, experienced pinball technician who makes house calls.

You should always be looking for the amazing technician who fixes your pinball for beer! (This might be asking a bit much of the universe...)

(Looks at Chad...)

Don’t leave us hanging. What was the issue/solution?

Quoted from The_Pump_House:

Don’t leave us hanging. What was the issue/solution?

I had replacement fuses, so we replaced the blown fuse and that restored his GI light issue. The only switch not working when I arrived was 48, switch itself was fine, metal rollover needed to be bent upwards a little bit for the ball to activate the switch.

Also upon arrival he was getting the date & time not set. We opened up the backbox and the batteries had exploded. Fortunately, it looks like he dodged a bullet as it appears that no acid hit the board. We have a remote battery holder on order.

I then spent about 30-40 minutes just going over the machine. Explaining all of the parts, going over the settings, general maintenance, etc.

While he’s just getting his feet wet with pinball, as his collection grows, he will become another great asset to the pinball community, great guy and excited to have another person in Delaware join the hobby!
