    Hi everyone, just wanted to give you a heads up that there appears to be an issue delivering any e-mail to Hotmail addresses. This also includes outlook.com and live.com etc addresses.

    I've been trying to figure out what is causing this for some hours but have been unable to. If anyone here has an idea what could be causing this, let me know!

    -- Warning, technical mumbo: --
    We have SPF set up on Pinside's DNS as well as DKIM signing. We did not have a valid PTR record (I forgot to set this on the new server) so I have set one up now. This was approximately 35 hours ago, so I'm hoping that it could be related to this in which case the problem should go away by itself soon. The weird thing is that according to log files, mail is being accepted. Microsofts mx server answers with a 250 code, mail queued for delivery, and everything seems to be fine. But no mail ever arrives on my test hotmail account.

    So for now, no e-mail is being delivered to Hotmail users, I will let you know as soon as this is fixed.

    I had received some PM notifications on my hotmail.com address as recently as yesterday.

    if you changed outbound email server, you may be flagged by MS as a spammer, if it is used to your historical outbound ip(s).

    check your test account spam folder.
    check your test account (other) filter categories (default from MS).

    for example, google's recent changes are redirecting email to new 'categories'.
    if you can hand-craft outbound email headers, do a few and change your 'From:' email adrs domain to something like [email protected] and see if those show.

    check to see if you've had a recent number of unsubscribes. if so, you may also have a recent number of people hitting [spam] button inside their email systems. which you won't know about.

    try sending test emails from some of your other email accounts to your test email account. do those work?

    is your outbound server also inbound? if so, test some inbound emails from several accounts, including your test account.

    are you using a new mail server, or write new code that generates the emails? if so, maybe there's a slight malformed header that MS is choking on, but other email vendors can handle?

    Thanks for the help Brett, your ideas put me in the right direction: I found the "safe senders" setting in the Outlook, added Pinside and lo and behold: the message made it through!

    So now the question remains, why is MS not liking Pinside e-mails? It could very well be the IP change on the Pinside server, question is: how to solve this? Get in touch with MS?

    do you still have access to your previous hosting provider, where you can test sending an email from your original source?

    if you updated your DNS records to point to a new hosting provider (think you mentioned going from Dallas to Canada previously...), then you'll want to update your MX records with both:
    a) the company you have your domain purchased through (ie: godaddy)
    b) your actual site/smtp hosting company (ie: in canada?)

    They both need to be updated. Your hosting company can walk you through the updates. That change can take up to 48 hours. I've done this for a previous client before to get their email working.

    (but - with all that said, are you saying email does get received at non-MS email accounts without a problem? If so, need to better isolate just with MS.)

    I did a small update to the "lost password" feature. If you use this with an account that has not yet been activated, it will re-send your activation code.

    I have been working hard on getting our e-mails more "trusted", which should hopefully decrease Pinside mail going into spam folders. It would be great if you could add Pinside.com to your list of trusted senders/domains in your Hotmail, GMail etc..

    Would highly recommend that for gmail users, as email may end up going into the new 'category' pages instead of your Inbox.

    Maybe someone here reading this works for microsoft and can help out?

    Have you been to mxtoolbox.com and checked the domain to see if you are on any blacklist? There are others out there as well that you can run tests on. Also, make sure that the Pinside mail server is not sending NDR's as this can get you flagged. One other thing is make sure Pinside mail server is not set up as an open relay.

    My Hotmail account seems to be delivering PMs from Pinside, but I think my marketwatch email notifications are being blocked. I'll try adding Pinside to safe senders and see what happens.

    New problem. The little envelope shows I have pinside mail, but it's not in my folder. I send a response, and the new messages show up in the thread, but the old ones disappear.

    Hey there. The only thing I've done longer than working for Hotmail (Windows Live Hotmail, Outlook.com) is play pinball. First time registered user/post... I've forwarded this to our spam and safety program manager and will get back to you when I hear something.

    Yes, I did all the tests there can be found online. No blacklists, and everything seems to be configured right.

    Here's what our spam and safety GPM had to say:

    I will definitely look into what’s up. But I need them to follow this and give me SRX before I can go. Per policy and can’t make exceptions.

Senders can do this by filling out a form with detailed information necessary to diagnose the problem.     Not still happening, but when I responded to a message that time and waited, it showed two new messages had arrived, but there were no new messages. So I sent another one, and the two new ones showed up. But each time we messaged back and forth, the last ones disappeared. And my original response appeared above the one that was sent to me, which seemed odd. The only two that are left are the original two. This did not happen again, and all the messages went to Hotmail.

    I don't seem to be getting market watch summary emails at all. My email is at yahoo. Not sure if there is a known problem or not.

    Bad news! It looks like these email delivery issues have returned. All emails to @outlook.com @live.com @hotmail.com addresses will bounce.

    This means if you are on one of the microsoft-hosted email domains, you won't receive Marketwatch or PM notifications.

    I have contacted Microsoft support so hopefully this can get resolved soon. Pinside's mail server IP address is not on any blacklist, so this really seems to be isolated to Microsoft, just like it happened almost 7 years ago.

    When this gets resolved, I will update here.

    If you absolutely need your notifications to work today, all I can suggest at this point is to switch your e-mail address to something else for Pinside (you can do this in your user settings) or, if you don't have another email address available, sign up for a Gmail (or other) account (and from there, optionally set up automatic forwarding to your Microsoft address).

    Looks like Microsoft had a global outage, so this might have been impacting you as well. It hit our company too...

    Work has been having issues with Outlook since Friday! Microsoft claims it was only overnight but it sure seems like it’s been longer than that!

    Can verify that a PM sent yesterday that should have been forwarded to my @MSN.com email did not come through as it previously would have.
    Also not shocked at all that Microsoft is a pain.

    Mine was not working since saturday. I followed the original instructions posted earlier in this thread to add the [email protected] to my safe senders list and now it is working

    Update! I have been in contact with Microsoft and they have removed us from their IP blacklist. I will also be taking some steps to prevent this from happening in the future. Fingers crossed!

    Years ago I went on a vacation to Vegas from Canada. Hotmail detected that I was in Vegas which was unusual activity (since its a vacation). They blocked all access to my account for 30 days without any means to unlock. No access to important emails I needed to get to. I no longer use hotmail.
