Down from sat, but honestly more than I thought would be there given the weather. Still had a ton of fun, can’t wait for next year!

Managed to get scolded by wife last night, my boys asked who the blue hair girl was...and I replied she’s the tna girl. Well, wife went off about inappropriate comments in front of the boys and being disappointed...I just pulled up a picture of total nuclear annihilation pinball and showed her. She just said “oh”. Classic.

Back home from a great mgc weekend. Iron Madien all setup, and grabbed some shots of the audits quick before playing more.

Nice.

Special thanks to Beatnik Filmstar who helped me out huge - my flight to MSP was canceled, Amtrak was sold out when I looked, and he gave me a ride back to Minneapolis. The roads were awful!

Looks like Jason's game got 4 more plays than mine at the show. I got mine setup at home last night and let my 4 year old play it for a while before bedtime. He loves it! I think he spent a good 5 minutes just searching over the playfield and looking for all the Eddie's and comparing them to the Eddies on the translite. He was really digging the music too. I think he's going to be a metal-head

Mine held up great as well. No issues the entire show (glass never had to come off) and I searched the game over when I got home and there isn't a scratch on it and no visible wear anywhere on the playfield or shooter lane.-I did put some extra mylar down in advance just a precaution though. Love the game! If you are on the fence I'd recommend jumping over and buying the game. it's something special!

I'm still trying to convince my 4 year old that machine isn't "scary", hopefully she'll come around, lol.

Both of my girls said there favorite machine was Iron Maiden. They liked hitting the ramp target.

A couple years' ago my son was so scared of the monkey in Strange Science so much that I had to cover the picture on the backglass with a picture of a pumpkin over it's head. The sounds on that game scared him as well. He's come around since then. He was a little scared of TWD at first and he's not scared of IMDN at all. Hopefuly your 4 year old comes around as well!

Has this spike system gotten anymore reliable? With all the costly node board failures of previous titles it worries me a bit to purchase one of these. Especially when the “fix” given by Stern was some zip ties.

I don’t mind repairing games when something breaks that’s part of the hobby but damn at like $200 for a node board that can get pricey rather quick.

#272 1 year ago

I didn’t see a single modern stern down during the entire show, not a single playfield glass off or back box open. So initial quality seems quite high. Only time will tell of course, but I’m quite hopeful. Personally I’d rather have it the old way where I can fix it without buying boards, but I’m told I’m old already. On a side note, if there were 30 im’s and each had 400-800 plays on it....let’s say 500 average, that’s 15,000 plays in two days on just the Iron Maiden’s without a problem....not too bad. Unless there were little green men sneaking into machines and fixing them while on, I’d say stern got an A at this show.

Far too soon to tell. But my concern as well.

you were not around enough then...

It was apparent that they worked hard to get the lot of IRMD all there for the show, but lets just say there were quite a few issues in the bunch that needed to be addressed.

I know a few of us had to open a second game due to issues with the first ones pulled form the box.

#275 1 year ago

Did any of you guys who bought the show games notice any damage to the backbox? I was on an Iron Maiden and the guy playing the one next to me was causing my game to shake from his nudging. They had them pushed so close together that the heads were actually touching. I pulled my game forward to protect it for the owner.

No damage seen, but yes, I did swing by my SW:Prem a few times and pulled it (or the other machines) away, to keep from dinging each other.

(other than the freak weather, it was a great show)

No, but I kept a close eye on my game and moved it away from the other machines whenever it got within a few inches of touching the other cabinet heads.

I did the same with one I was playing...it was getting rammed into the head next to it so I pulled it out a bit.

Ok, fair enough. I wasn’t there at setup for them. I can only state what I saw. Were they dead out of box or needed some adjustments?

#280 1 year ago

Whoever thought to have a machine with headphones, thank you! The game is 100x better when you can hear it. Loved it.

There was a list of issues but in short I was told that this is why they are floor model games.

Biggest issue I saw/heard of was improperly wired game which blew through 4 node boards, playfield with ink smudged on all inserts below clear (still wet when cleared?), sunken inserts on a pf where you could feel them all by hand (pretty bad), and quite a few with cabinet defects and very shoddy putty repairs on large cracks/issues.

Some of the Stern employees were there and very helpful. They were taking notes to take back to the production line. I am sure they will all be addressed immediately as the Stern folks appeared very unhappy with some of the issues.

I will also not that I suggest increasing shooter spring tension 1 (from Green up to Blue) as pretty much all games were unable to make the full plunge around the orbit.

I was wondering about that. I didn't know exactly how spring tension was measured, but I didn't play a single game where a full plunge was capable completing the loop. Granted after awhile, I stopped trying and instead went for the normal skill shot.

Two IM's were down late Friday night. Before they turned it off, one had a Left flipper with very little power and would only go half way up occasionally. Saw another one turned off, but I don't why. The Stern people were really on top of it. They kept coming around and asking how was the gameplay. That is when I pointed out the bad flipper. Played another one Sunday that had really wobbly legs, no matter how much they tightened them, they were still wobbly.

Yeah, quite a few of us noticed that some of the IMDN games had the same weak flipper issue as GOTG and KISS have been reported with. It was not all games, but some had it. Always intermittent but obviously there.

I wish they could figure this out.

sarge was not happy that Pikachu kept bumping him. MGC was awesome. Billy Mitchell playing Ms Pac-Man almost perfectly while also talking on his cellphone was another highlight. No pic though.

As the blurry foreground, I can confirm! Lol.

Here's me schooling the maker of Death Ball at his own game. (He had 2 own-goals, but I still won!) Awesome game.

Really cool, but ultimately it's still a $3,000 game of pong. I think the commercial version, when released, will do very well. It's a high top, so perfect for a bar setting. I talked with the owner for quite some time. Sounds like he's looking for more game ideas. I'd love to see a commercial version of Loopin Louie, but I'm not sure that has the same name recognition as Pong. I think it would be cool as a bartop table with a dome in the center. Have optical switches instead of the tokens. Perhaps retheme it to something else.

Great moment...I have some other videos of that game too, which I'll try to upload later. I was playing with him the game before, but Dan just came by with the third order of pizza and I hadn't eaten anything that night.

Yup, this. Nice little flaps to cover the control panels and turn it into a coffee table.

Every time this has happened to me, it's been the EOS switch not making good, flat contact. Adjusting that took care of the issue.
