I am finishing a Meteor rescue/restoration and I have everything working except the sound board. The game will boot and play fine with the SB-300 ribbon cables unplugged, but will not boot when they are plugged in. The game has an Alltek MPU and a new rectifier board installed (plus new connectors on all 3 rectifier connections).

My plan was to:
-Replace the ribbon cables
-Recap the SB-300
-Replace the the 6840

Or is there something else I should be considering? Thanks!

Wouldn't hurt recapping first, a leaky cap to ground will cause problems.
The mpu needing 5V and 12V to get flicker and 6 flashes on a bench.
I'd be checking test points and gates where there should be 5V and see if you have continuity to ground.
Like on a table, out of the machine.
Also checking that the relevant pins are getting 5V, using a multimeter set on continuity, the sound icon.
I'm assuming you can use a meter and read a schematic.

I agree. A recap or repair kit on all the original boards is imo, a must to do. I would also suggest replacing the "data" cable between them. You could also verify continuity and/or clean the contacts by soaking in a cleaner solution or washing some how, to get corrosion off.
