I just did a full post replacement on one a couple weeks ago. There are 42 tall posts (1-3/16") and 15 short posts (1"). It does matter because you want the plastics mounted on the tall posts, and short posts under the plastics so the screw heads don't scratch the plastics.

There are actually two more -- probably short since they are hidden under plastics -- that are not used. It's not necessary to replace them if you don't want to.

Looking back at these pics I realize what I said before doesn’t apply on Meteor -- short with short, tall with tall.

I hope the pics will help though.

The only problem with replacing short posts with tall posts is that some posts, like the two surrounding the spot target, have carriage bolts that come up from under the playfield. You might have to install longer bolts too or there may not be enough length for the acorn nuts on top of the plastics.
