Inspect the fiberboard spacers between the switch blades.

I had that happening to some of the stand ups on a Meteor when I had it years ago. Digging into it one time. I thought the fiberboard spacers between the leaf blades looked wet. Maybe flux or something.

I removed them from the game. Scrubbed them with lacquer thinner. Dried them. Put them back in. No more problems.

Might be worth a check on your game. Since I had mine since it was new and came from the factory that way.
