My spinner broke on Meteor. Does anyone have one laying around you would sell? Even another style Stern spinner would obviously work. This game is on location and I would like to get it back up and functional. Anyone ever repaired a spinner or is it even possible?

I also posted this in the classic Stern thread:

My Meteor was finished just before the Southern Fried Gaming Expo and went straight to the floor.
I'm running all new Weebly boards and Rottendog rectifier board. After setting it up I played one ball then it died but it was only a fuse. Didn't have a single other issue and lasted the whole show. I tweaked a few things during the show, still needs a few tweaks on the flippers and switches but it's playing super fast since this playfield was from the first batch that was missing text and I had Neo Skywalker apply the water slides and clear it again.
Someone at the show knocked out almost 1.3 mil and got to show off the 7 digit displays I added. I have been getting my butt kicked on it so far but I'll get there

Having a sound issue, the spinner sound basically gives up. Is this a common problem when using a standard Stern sound board with a new Alltek?

My Meteor had an Alltek in it when I got the game and ran for a long time without issues like that. Since then I found a clean original MPU that I rebuilt so running all original boards again.

First check that spinner switch. Is it working ok? If there is a capacitor on the switch it could be going bad.

I would try reseating the cables from the MPU to sound board. Otherwise may be a sound card issue.

Playing a bunch of games on my new restore. Seems when the spinner is ripped the sound doesn't activate. The game has an original sound board in it. Is this common? I imagine the board could have a hard time keeping up with the rapid spin of the switch.
And I know there is no free-play setting, but what is the best way to set the game up for an easy award for a free game? Didn't look like there was many options other than beating the high score?

Have you replaced the capacitors on the sound board yet? Those are 40 plus years old now.

I planned on replacing the Alltek with either an original board or a Weebly because the Meteor 2021 upgrade isn't working and it was suggested to change the board, so that is one of the plans.

They were ordered Sunday

Replaced them this morning, no change in the sound

The sound is updated on mpu 200 games from within the display interrupt so it would be sensitive to the display interrupt speed. There are also issues with the first couple mpu 200 games when used with nvram they do not initialize the ram correctly but it usually will correct itself after the game populates the registers.

The weebly board has an updated ROM that fixes this on meteor and Galaxy and possibly Ali as well. Basically the stock six digit games.

Ive been thinking of getting a Weebly board to see if it will fix the issue I am having with the Meteor 2021 upgrade. I can always save the Alltek too, be nice to have a spare.

I sold my restored Meteor (with the Arduino mod and 2021 code) several months ago, but mine was working great with the Alltek board. No problems running with external speakers thru the WAV trigger board or thru the OEM sound card on the bottom cabinet speaker (I have a toggle switch to go back and forth). When getting the 2021 code running, I did have some garbled sounds on the spinner....clearing the NVRAM on the Alltek cleared that up and I had no problems after that.

It is my understanding that it is slightly different on the Weebly board and with that you lose the ability to switch between the original and new code. It is either one or the other. But, that may have changed.

#3013 67 days ago

Mathazar, I have thought about too, just clearing the memory on the board and starting from scratch!

Robo, I hope thats not the case, but if it is I'll have a spare board anyway. Maybe by clearing the Alltek both issues will be fixed.

#3014 67 days ago

Clearing the memory and re-setting the dip switches did the trick! Spinner sound is reacting perfectly and some other sounds I wasn't getting are back too!

Just finished rebuilding and I am getting a lot of flipper hop, any advice on how to get rid of this?

20240917_095714 (resized).jpg20240917_095714 (resized).jpg
#3016 49 days ago

is it the inlane metal guide making the ball hop or the flipper itself? First try to adjust the metal guide to the right height so the end doesn't make the ball pop, then "bending" it so when the ball goes onto the flipper it doesn't bounce on it.
Sometime, the location of the flipper plate/bushing/flipper bat accentuate the hop too-

#3017 49 days ago

Do you have the correct profile flipper bat a lot of the replacements are too fat.

#3018 48 days ago

It is the metal guide, let me see if I can lower it

#3019 48 days ago

#3020 48 days ago

Yep, the metal was just way to high. Lowered it and it works great. Thanks.

So I did a full restore and decided to replace both the Solenoid Driver Board and MPU since mine were a little hacked up (however they were working). I bought new Alltek boards and neither worked. The new Solenoid Driver board got a bunch of errors on the Solenoid red leds but when I replaced it with the old board everything works fine. The New MPU didn't work until I figured out it needed to be reset but then it would work but then randomly shut off and not reboot until I fiddles with the connectors. I also switched back to the old MPU and it is working fine. Am I missing something or has anyone else had issues with these boards?

#3022 48 days ago

That is odd to have issues with alltek.... Did you replace the rectifier board too? Those are usually hammered. Connectors will need replacing as well in most games of this era.

#3023 48 days ago

If the rectifier board is the one in the lower cabinet, then yes I did (Gulf Pinball). I actually had to have a tech come out because I was so stuck and he couldn't figure out why the Solenoid Driver wasn't working but did show me the reset issue on the MPU. He thought the Solenoid Board wasn't the "right" one and recommended I swap to the old one but I am pretty sure it is. Since he left I have been struggling with random resets on the new MPU and today swapped back to the old MPU and it is working fine. Electronics are not my strong suit so I always figure it is something I am doing wrong but it seems weird that the old one is working fine.

Why do people still go with Alltek? Sheesh, get a Weebly/NVRAM board, and you'll be set.

I wonder if people just don't know? I found the Weebly MPU by searching around and ordered my first one a week ago. I remember buying an Alltek MPU for my Bally Viking back around 2004. Maybe just brand awareness?

Alltek has been around since 2002, so everyone knows their name. They make a great product, but the second producer Weebly improved on the product design by adding the ability to run custom roms, and they’re $40 cheaper. Alltek sells wholesale to Marcos and other online retailers, so their name is more well known.

Thanks for this idea AND reminding me of where this metal piece goes. I finished my restoration and couldn't remember what it was for.

I'm looking for a nice restored Meteor. If someone is looking to sell, please shoot me a PM. Thanks
