Here's a few pics and a video.
Picked this meteor up about a
year ago in Chicago.
Straight up in project shape.

Learned how to repin connectors
how to solder alot better
how to do a swap!! Dam it's alot of work!
Rebuilt and cleaned everything!
Tons of cabinet and backbox woodwork.
Auto cleared playfield.
Flattened plastics.
Custom audio set-up.
Spent some bucks!! Hahaha

But my ultimate goal was to get this ready so I could take it to
Pincinnati. I had such a great experience when I took my Prospector to LAX in 2020 that I wanted to bring 2 games to the
next show i went to.

So I just put a new piece glass on and lockbar this morning plus a new ninja ball!

She's done.

Thx to all the pinsiders and the pinside threads that helped me do this.

Here's a short video.

#4 2 years ago

Looks awesome man. You nailed it!

#5 2 years ago
Quoted from lowbeau67:

Here's a short video.

Looks awesome - your startup sound doesn't seem right. It's supposed to play 7 (? I think) discrete tones as it works through the self test.
Like this:

The volume ramp is created by U12, U13, U14, and U8 on the SB300, if I'm remembering correctly.

Interesting color choices

Does it matter if it's an alltek?

Hahaha I know right!
I appreciate your honesty!

Nope - should be the same on an Alltek or MPU-200.
Here's another example where you can hear what it should sound like:

If it seems to be making all the gameplay sounds correctly, maybe you just forget I mentioned anything!

#10 2 years ago

Yeah i wondered about that because I'm used to my startup
sounds when I play my flight 2000.

Not sure why I'm not hearing them.

#11 2 years ago

You can try a memory clear if you are hearing weird sounds. That fixes a lot of sound issues.

#12 2 years ago

you might want to look at the Meteor 2021 code .. it adds a huge amount of IP (esp great with a sub woofer I have one as well) .. I like the choices you made with colour .. sort of reminds me of 9 ball

#13 2 years ago

I've watched some YouTube videos of that new meteor code.
It looks and sounds awesome.

Will add that after I get back from pincinnatti for sure.

Thanks!
If you do end up implementing my new code on there, let me know. I have a diagnostic program I can share with you that might help figure out if your SB-300 is operating correctly. FYI - for Meteor, I would recommend building/getting the Rev 3 board, although the Rev 2 would work as well. The Rev 3 just has more capability.
Here are links to the schematics and gerber files:

Reach out if you want to meet up at Pincinnati. I have like 4 sb-300 if you need one.

Tons of cabinet and backbox woodwork.

I don't normally say this, but the paint choices -- especially the coin door and the color accents on it -- look incredible.

The light blue in the game against the warm orange feels good.

The double splatter effects in the warm orange look GREAT. Especially with an outer space theme where the idea of "stars" is on your mind.

One of the 10 commandments of art is "Consistent use of elements" -- so the fact that you kept the splatter going on the legs -- who does that? IT WORKS !

Hope you come back with a ribbon for that cabinet presentation.

Wow man thx! I extensively used your swap thread and it was
a great source for me.

Believe it or not but when I saw hep do that centaur cabinet
in red it stuck with me and then I had fun with the splatter.

#18 2 years ago

Nice -- if you have any suggestions for the swap thread - please post 'em in the thread while the pain and excitement is still fresh.

I looked through your pictures again and was really impressed by all the work you put in. The real gem is what I found when I looked a little bit harder at one of the photos. Your Meteor is officially "Imamaculate", my friend...

P.S. you need to be careful. You could get a C&D and get sued for posting it. There are some substantial but reasonable fees required.

Yeah back during that glorious thread I donated toward
Project pinball and wantdataeast sent me that print ,some
Roswell soil and a personalized postcard. It's great!!
Glad u saw it.

I just finished breaking down my meteor and mummifying it
for the trip North tomorrow.

My other pin(prospector) is wrapped and waiting at my work.
Will swing by and get it in truck in morning and roll on.
Stoked for pincinnatti..

I just read through that the other day and got some really good laughs. It was from before I was on pinside. I also just donated to project pinball today. Great cause.

Good luck at pincinatti!

Great job on the cabinet. I love it when people think outside the box.

Update
Took game to pincinnatti
Back to my PT dept for my clients/friends.
Then my Red Meteor went to Louisville arcade expo.

Had a blast watching people play it especially with the new
Code at Louisville expo.

Brought her back to her new place in my game room for now.

Great looking pin, man.

Any more details about your 6 speaker sound system? What kind of amp are you using? I've got some external subs on my Flash Gordon and Stargate but have been thinking they need a much fuller treatment with some of those micro amps and much, much better speakers.
