I'm thinking about changing "Sad But True" with "Don't Tread On Me" since it plays during Snake MB. I never choose "SBT" to start a game, and I probably wouldn't choose "Tread" either, but it seems appropriate and sounds pretty cool to start a Snake MB.

do song names change automatically on dot display?

No. You have to go in and change all occurrences. There is a handy search feature, but be careful that you are not replacing "One" in Metallica when it actually is the number, not the song.

I posted this in the 1.51 update thread, but I thought it was appropriate to post here, as well:

When I was running 1.22, I swapped CD with RTL, and when Sparky mb started, RTL started from the beginning of the song, and it sounded great! I love that RTL is included and the options given for Sparky mb in 1.51, but now RTL starts a few minutes into the song and is mostly a guitar solo. Not thrilled about that....so, here are the changes I made:

Swapped CD with RTL
RTL > Four Horsemen
Unforgiven > Shortest Straw
One > ...And Justice For All
Sad But True > Am I Evil?

- I chose to play only RTL on mb setting, and now it starts from the beginning because it's in the CD request slot.
- Shortest Straw plays for 10 secs after match instead of Unforgiven.
- During Lady Justice mode, ...AJFA comes in during a guitar solo instead of One.
- Am I Evil? plays during Snake mb instead of SBT

If the next update ties songs or album titles to the member modes, then I may need to rethink.

BTW, some of the songs I added were a little too long, and I had to fade out. Sucks, but oh well.

Has anybody tried an instrumental only version? These mp3 player pins get all muddy IMHO because the lyrics of the song get stepped all over by sfx & quotes. If I had a metallica, the first thing I'd want to try is replacing all the songs with instrumental only versions of the same thing (most of which can be found online).

I haven't looked, can you really find instrumental versions of all the tracks on the pin?

I tried it just to see if it was possible and most of them were on youtube, if not officially available somewhere else.

Does anyone else have a problem with clipping? I process songs and they sound terrible once they are on the pin with popping, cracking and distortion (Whisky in the Jar in particular). I am converting from .m4a (iTunes) files to .wav using Audacity and I am wondering if it's Audacity that's causing the problem because the songs sound fine as .m4a's.

I am no expert and am still learning myself but are you changing the Project Rate to 24000Hz in the bottom left corner in Audacity?

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought. Chances most people would ever hear it are pretty slim.

Just flashed my all instrumental (and subbed sanitarium for unforgiven) rom and it works out exactly like I hoped. It's much more "pinball" and much less "mp3 player" when the music is just music.

I made the following changes:

Battery ----> Whiskey in the Jar
Blackened ----> Four Horsemen
Unforgiven ----> Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

Left the CIU mode titled "Battery"

Battery ----> Whiskey in the Jar? WTF?!?! Are you deaf/or just making fun?

I love me some Thin Lizzy, but battery is one of the only tunes that I play to.

When you guys are doing the song replacements, are you modifying the songs to be the same length as the one it replaced?

Yes. Or, in the case of making a shorter song fit, trying to edit to make it play twice in the original time parameter.

On the 1.22 code, I had used "My Apocolypse" and one minute from "Motorbreath" to fill in the extra time on the song I was replacing (I can't remember which one it was now). For the current code, I didn't double up on any. All my song choices had to be trimmed a little.

Mechanix by Megadeth would a be a good replacement for The Four Horseman (if that's even on there).

The Four Horseman isn't on the original code. However, it's on my game.

For v16, all the song numbers are only one number off, except for Battery and Blackened stay the same:

I don't know if any of you are just basically replacing music, but doing that without any cleanup is kind of a bad idea. Any mp3 you find is probably not going to have the same volume (gain) as the music in the game and this can be quite noticeable. I recommend adjusting the mp3 gain in audacity before you import it.

Export the song (from the rom image) you want to replace using pinball browser. Load it into audacity

Load the song you want into audacity as well. (both are loaded now)

Adjust the gain settings in the new song using the mixer board. Play both tracks, stop, adjust gain as needed until both songs have about the same volume and vocal levels.

Close the old song, export the new song and them import it into the rom.

This is good advice, but I'm not sure they did this in the real ROM. Some songs seem pretty quiet. I did nothing but convert the sample rate in Audacity for a quick test and I was pretty happy with the results. The thing that killed me was the loops at the beginning of a ball. It kept the loop that made sense with the previous song and had awful results with a new song. Has anyone found a fix for that? For example, looping the first few seconds of Enter Sandman will get you a repeat on the intro guitar riff. Let's say it's 0 to 10 seconds. If i replace that with Orion it, a song with a fade in that doesn't really start to kick in until 20 seconds or so, you hear nothing.

Nothing to be done about the looping, just like the song lengths it's hard coded. I've decided to live with some of my less favorite songs rather than than have ones I like be awkward, it would bother me every time I heard them.

I used the tutorial that was in the Pinball Browser thread, which explains how to fix the levels using Audacity. Since I've left Enter Sandman in the game, I should adjust the levels and put it back in because it's so quiet compared to all the other songs.

Regarding the looping, I have one song that sounds like it's skipping while in the launch lane, but like Aurich said, nothing can be done about that.

I do hate One enough that I might live with bad looping just to get rid of it, when I accidentally pick it it ruins playing that whole game while it's playing.

SBT is the one song I want to replace because it doesn't fit well at all in a multiball. I've toyed with replacing it with Lords Of Summer...

I also changed all coffin references to casket since the callouts say casket.

I replaced One with Bleeding me & Unforgiven with Broekn Beat and scarred.
I used the bookmarks and imported the songs using 4.0
The songs play fine and everything appears good, however at the end of each ball, I get a quick cut off of music and just the sound effects play.
On the songs I didn't replace , the cut off only lasts 2 seconds and then you can hear the song playing through the scoring sound effects.

Anyone run into this problem ?

I am going to try again, reburn from default 1.6 maybe choose a different songs & see if it was a fluke.

No need to post the sound-request ids.
When you start Pinball Browser, it will ask you if you want to download the online bookmarks.
Answer 'yes' and you'll have the song bookmarks for MTL163 :

Thanks oga83. That's cool. So it's my understanding that if you replace the longest request, then the fragments will automatically be done as well. (Correct me if that's not the case).

So in your example above what's the quickest way to find the longest request for each song?

The longest requests are bookmarked as shown . click in the Pull-down box <that shows Fade to Black highlighted, in the pic> and wala, you're there . You are over thinking it.

BTW , i have found that Phantom Lord (modified in Audacity) is a great replacement for the song that ruined Metallica and No Remorse is a great replacement for that god-awful "Unforgiven", especially at the end of the game.

Is there a way to put the songs in your own preferred playlist order vs. the way Stern has them? For example, if you wanted MOP to be the first track instead of Battery.
