Quoted from rockfantasyman:

this game in my opinion is a bad move for stern ! metallica are not as popular as the stones or ac/dc and they have alienated their fanbase to no end . iron maiden would be a much better choice

Metallica has sold more albums than IM both worldwide and in the states, and has much more recent material than IM, so from a business standpoint it's a no brainer

Quoted from 7Warpig7:

Celine Dion has sold twice as many albums as Metallica, so what is exactly is your album sales statement trying to say?
Metallica doesn't have close to the quantity or quality of recent material as Iron Maiden. Unlike Metallica, Maiden never changed their music because they saw an opportunity to get on MTV or make more money or follow the latest trend.
I'll wager the quantity of hardcore fans willing and able to drop thousands of dollars on a pinball machine are pretty close to even for Metallica and Maiden. The problem for Stern is that this quantity is far far less than the quantity AC/DC or The Rolling Stones has. I cannot see Metallica being a big seller among the general population because of this.

Lets not pretend album sales has nothing to do with potential sales of a pinball machine, but I do agree think Maiden would make a nice pin as well.

It'll be tough to reproduce the AC/DC pin's success because Ritchie had a blank check to design his game, and I'll take a wild guess that Borg won't get the same treatment.

I also heard it will be the first stern LCD.

FWIW rumors on Pinside more consistently indicate the first LCD is Star Trek.

I believe a Metallica pin would still do well, but will not have the same "magical combination" that ACDC does. And yes, I do like metallica!

What is a "magical combination"?

Quoted from PEN:

By that he means a rehashed layout with music you here everyday, and a great ruleset. That is all. When I say music you here everyday, I mean the mall, the grocery store, the radio, the dentist, commercials, Movies, TV shows, you name it. I don't dislike AC/DC i'm just sick of hearing them.

I think the massive airplay is probably the main reason I have a hard time pulling the trigger on an ACDC pin. Don't get me wrong, Metallica is heard in commercials, stadiums, movies, and radio as well, but not quite as overplayed.

Quoted from PW79:

The Metallica pin was a 2013 NIB slam dunk for me until I remembered I don't really dig Borg/Stern games (they all see budget/empty: IM, BBH, Avatar, Tron & etc).

Borg also did GNR and X-Men, both of which are much more full featured... One would think those are better examples of what a Borg Metallica pin would be.
