I am looking to buy a Metallica Pro LED NIB just looking for some input. Thanks

Yup. You're welcome.

It was my first NIB purchase, and I have 0 regrets. IMHO fantastic game, great layout, great code and great artwork. For what it is worth, personally there isn't another Stern game you can buy right now that I would rather have in my collection (4 pins).

#5 7 years ago

Easily worth every penny

#6 7 years ago

We have a Pro LED and love it.
Run don't walk

#7 7 years ago

Excellent game, has it all, and if you like the music, it makes it that much better.

#8 7 years ago

My first and only nib was Metallica pro. Do it! I also think you can get one huo with mods for less. Best pro ever!

#9 7 years ago

Yes. Waiting on mine now, it'll be my first.

Are there benefits to buying a Metallica pro led over buying the regular Metallica pro and swapping out the incandescent bulbs with leds?

I don't think so. I have an oroginal HUO version switched over to all LEDs and it's awesome. Unless you really like the new style back box there is no difference. Actually some would say the older version has a better quality playfield. Some of the newer playfields definitely had paint chipping issues. Hopefully that has been fixed on the ones getting delivered now.

Sorry, I'm not a mind reader.

See? I was concise, but everyone is in agreement. It's a great pin. I was never a huge Metallica fan, but their music is pretty good the pin. If you don't agree, just swap it out. The game doesn't take long to understand how to progress either. ColorDMD is advised, but I guess I could live without it. Hit up Pinball Refinery if you really want it decked out nicely!

MET pro led is my first NIB also. I ordered it a couple weeks ago and it supposed to arrive this week I've ben told. Its the only NIB pin thats come along that I HAD TO HAVE! It is truly awesome, I LOVE Metallicas music (black album or older) and the art package is just insanely cool. The code is soo well written that the game just flows perfect and it just rocks! I love lots of other Sterns also but this one I just had to own, especially with the rumors that this will be its last year of production so once that happens I foresee prices only going up on HUO units. The PRO LED version I've been told has also been redesigned to handle an all LED light matrix vs the incandescant version wasnt. Maybe someone else can elaborate on the upgraded LED light setup vs the incandescant version? This new version also has the metal backbox, angled speaker panel with round speakers and the graphic on the speaker panel vs just black. Anyway some minor differences but they are BOTH awesome and cant go wrong with EITHER!!

#16 7 years ago

I didn't like it at first. Not a Metallica fan so that might have something to do with it. Once I gave it a chance and learned some basic rules I was hooked. The Metallica music does work well with fast gameplay. I really like how there is plenty to shoot for at any moment and non linear gameplay. It's a tough game but has very reachable goals. Just a fun game and lots of great mods out there including colordmd support. Thinking of getting one myself.

#17 7 years ago

BTW the MET that I play at NYNY casino in Las Vegas is the standard PRO that has been converted to LED's and its BEAUTIFUL and plays amazing. The regular version handles the LED's just fine. I do not notice any ghosting or flickering anywhere soooo who knows what is different about the new one. Ive just been told its "different" by my distributor to handle an all LED setup

#18 7 years ago

Absolutely worth it. Don't second guess at all! Have had mine for a year, love it as well as guests who play. No issues whatsoever. A keeper especially for me since I love their music. Even if you don't the gameplay is fantastic! Good luck, I hope you get one.

I was racking my brain over the pro or premium but decided to go with the pro all modded out. I still have not received the game yet but was told before July I should have it. My thinking was I wouldn't like the hammer on the premium. Hope I made the right choice

What does the Premium offer over the pro?

#21 7 years ago

I think just spinners, the hammer, the rising cross and better lightshow, maybe a few other little differences but those I think are the main ones. I'm getting the spinners put on and I may upgrade in the future with the total lightshow mod. I did also add color DMD which I always hear is a must with either Metallica.

#22 7 years ago

The snake and captive ball is different too

I've said this before, probably a lot, but the spinners are not a good mod for the Pro. They make finishing the Fade to Black Crank it Up mode far too easy, because the software *already* compensates on the Pro for the lack of spinners, requiring fewer shots to complete than on the Premium/LE.

#24 7 years ago

Thanks for the info I just spoke to my distributor today and I will cancel the spinners.

#25 7 years ago

I had asked my distributor about adding the rising cross and was told you can't buy that for the pro cause Stern wont allow it.

#26 7 years ago

It's the second best game Stern has ever made, and It's just OK.

#27 7 years ago

Yes. Still the best Stern since SM.

#28 7 years ago

My first nib and absolutely love my met with tons of mods including the total light show which is my favorite ..... which has also led to many other stern purchases since lol20160409_033456_(resized).jpg20160409_033456_(resized).jpg

Nice!!

#31 7 years ago

Does anyone have a video of the light show?

#32 7 years ago

Actually I like the jaw mechanism on the Pro. Sounded like the LE jaw would be better utilized and the Hammer was a downer. I prefer the Pro. Just my 25 cents

The total light show? Or just met lightshow on general

#34 7 years ago

Just picked up a NIB Met Pro LED a couple weeks ago. My first NIB and the first Stern game that I was willing to sell one of my classic Bally/Williams games for (sold my TAF). I wanted to add a really fast "adrenalin rush" game to my lineup and Met totally fits that bill!

My only concern is that the build quality of the modern Stern games, especially The Pros, is pretty low. Cheap plastic apron, no service bars on the playfield makes it difficult to prop up the playfield to work on it, and easy to ding the inside of the cabinet when pulling the playfield in/out for maintenance. Lack of appropriate playfield protection (my drain hole is chipping after less than 100 plays), etc. Of course, with enough $ these things can be rectified but something to consider going in.

Also, my inserts all have a ton of grazing which makes them appear more opaque and not clear, which bothers me enough that I wish I'd bought used HUO instead and found one that was clearer (I've seen others that don't have the same issue). Posted a thread about it: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/is-my-nib-metallica-pro-playfield-defective

Also, some others have reported serious defects in their clearcoat with recently produced games, you might want to consider a used machine you can inspect before buying (unclear at this point if Stern will correct these issues): https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/hey-stern-are-you-serious/

But, all that said Metallica is an incredible pinball game, amazing rules and lights/sounds/dots, lots of different strategies available, try for max points, to see the wizard mode, or play other "side modes", stackable modes and multiballs, fun and rewarding shots, etc. etc.

Any I guess! I did see a few on YouTube of the game.

Buy a used premium!!

#38 7 years ago
Quoted from frankmac:

Hammer, different snake jaw, and light show. I think that is it. Pro better value imo and not a fan of the hammer. Plenty of mods to make the pro shine.

#39 7 years ago

Heck Yes.... Awesome game!

#41 7 years ago

U gotta get closer to the end bc alot changed from the beginning of the project

#42 7 years ago

Also 2 spinners, physical ball lock coffin, metal apron with lights, different piston target, real lockdown bar, play field supports / sliders.

What is the average going rate for NIB Met Pro LED.

#44 7 years ago

Believe Stern has fixed pricing with distributors so everyone has the same price.

Stern has a minimum price now that distributors cannot go below anymore. I believe it is $4995. So the only thing distributors can "entice" you with is free shipping and being the local dealer so they can service it or take care of it easier if something goes wrong with it. From what I understand they are trying to give the "little guy" distributors a chance to move their inventory. Thats what I was told at least.

#46 7 years ago

Great game your going to love it. I got a kick out of the fact that it comes with a medical warning on the apron. I used to tell people they would have to sign a release form before they could play?

#47 7 years ago

I just got finished modding my met pro wood back box version

LEDS look great
FF large subwoofer and speakers
Purple powder coated armor
Cemetery blades and speaker panel decal
Creeping death mod

The machine looks, plays, and feels awesome. I have had a lot of pinballs and have a collection of 10 machines currently, and I play this machine by far more than anything now...it is a blast. Best Stern I have ever played

I really believe the speaker upgrade is a must and it was so impressive I decided not to install a shaker motor I purchased because the sub is all you need

The blades with the creeping death mod (pinball refinery) adds an eerie glow which is impressive especially with fluorescent plastic protectors

The powder coated armor feels better so the machine doesn't have that flimsy Stern feel

With the above mods, the machine does not feel like a stripped down machine like many pros..it is impressive and I would highly recommend purchasing. I did not even like Metallica music and was thinking about trading for an AC/DC before I did the upgrades. Now I love the music!!! Gameplay is different from other Stern classics as it is a fast playing machine not a long adventure like LOTR or Simpsons, somewhat like IM.

Btw one can purchase the rising cross but it is expensive now (only vendor is Marco I believe) Redshift LED, the maker of the total light show mod, promises a cheaper version in the future. The total light show mod also has programming for the cross mod, I believe. I will know in a few weeks as I have one in box but need time to install.

Nonetheless, if you are considering purchasing any Stern Pro machine...this is the Pro to get! Unless of course you like stop and go pinball...for without all of the premium add ons this machine moves fast.

#48 7 years ago

Where can someone buy spinners for the Pro? I love spinners on pins, seems strange to me that they take those off on the Pro. They can't cost stern all that much???

#49 7 years ago

Hooked on pinball has that mod...I believe it is hookedonpinball.com

#50 7 years ago

I have my share of nice Stern pins, and I think Met pro is the best when I consider price.

Tron (about equal gameplay) but I put a lot of money into Tron lighted ramps, arcade mode, LEDs are a must.
IMVE (about the same cost) but likely Met is a tiny bit better mainly because it's code is just a bit more to do.

STLE (lots more money)
AcDc premium (lost more money)
XMLE (more money not as good)

I don't have a lot of time on Met premium, a friend has one and had maddening issues with the hammer/lock mechanism. I am not really 'missing' any features because to me the Met pro is perfectly simple. I guess I'd rater have spinners (but I have IMVE which has 3 spinners so that's making up for what Met pro doesn't have).
