I was searching for proof of inline drops on Metallica. After much search I think I found them. And some other cool pics in Stern video.

I used Sunfox slomo (credit to his quality slomo) http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=u4d9HFHiEKY

Looks like Pro will not have inline drops.

Im really liking open playfield and the side scoop. Like BSD!

I was trying to find evidence under it of the inline drops. I dont see it.

Also RGB s on LE. Not Pro. What goes under the coffin insert in middle? Flasher?

is it me, or does the middle of the playfield look pretty empty?

#4 11 years ago

What do you propose that those 3 slots in front of the cross are, if not inline drops?

#6 11 years ago

Pro's got inline drops - but not sure what's going on w/ the coffin window on the Pro. It's definitely not the ball lock like on the LE.

#7 11 years ago

I think you linked to the wrong video. Be sure to click on 1080p for best quality.

I dont think the coffin is the ball lock. Look at under playfield pic and see RGB there. I bet no inlines on pro. Look at the blue print.

Never mind! I see it now!! Thats sick.

Yeah it's a 4 stage toy!!

-Hit captive ball
-Magnet catches the ball
-Hammer smashes the ball into the -playfield (magnet drops like TOTAN)
-Ball is locked in the coffin window!

SIIIIIICK!

#11 11 years ago

Here you go. Coffin lock and subway on LE. Note Pro to the right. So the balls will be visible under playfield? Sick if so.

Bottom is subway to right kick out scoop I think.

Boing!! Pinball porn.

Note the Optos and flasher also.

This appears to be Mr. Borg's magnum opus.

What? .357 Magnum

I think it's just you; the game looks pretty loaded.

Over the top = AFM style Stobe light on the Headbanger.

Some are saying the inline drops are on the Pro, but if you look at Stern's recent games you know that some major stuff will be left off (including the LED boards we see in the pictures).
I see some pictures that show the inline drops and some that do not show the inline drops so I would not be surprised to see that left off of the pro (same for the hammer).

Guy I knew in college had this as his profile pic on facebook....

Post edited by DrStarkweather : GOt called by the guy, Stern wants the picture taken down. Dont want him to lose his job or anything.

#20 11 years ago

I think he's confused a "Metallica" pin accidentally for what he really wanted to pose with- the "Sugar Ray" pin. Or was it "Smash Mouth"?

Oh wait, no...
My bad.
That's what Metallica fans look like nowadays.

Stern last used inline drops on WOF, which was built during pretty tough times for the company. Frankly, I'm surprised it's taken this long for them to drag them back out. While they are somewhat complicated assemblies (expensive for parts), the engineering work is all done. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them on the pro.

Please tell me that back glass is fake...

He's kinda channeling Al Leong from this angle IMHO...

Here's a vector-style enlargement. (Sorry, limited to pinside's 1600x1600 photo limit.)

-image removed-

I'm pretty sure I can see the three in-line drops, which would make this the LE?

If thats the pro backglass, someone needs to start making bootleg translights ASAP!

#32 11 years ago

Shouldn't it have button guards if its the LE?

#33 11 years ago

True, maybe not the LE, however Avengers Premium, for example, doesn't have button guards.

#34 11 years ago

All I'm saying is that back glass better be a ruse, or someone needs to get fired.

#35 11 years ago

The playfield looks legit, so that backglass is very likely used on one of the versions...

#36 11 years ago

I found the guy. He is a freelance photographer based in Chicago. That is his profile pic.

The caption is 'Screaming or yawning? Tune in next week.'

I won't post his name out of respect but anyone with decent google skills can find him in 5 minutes like I did. I hope he doesn't get in trouble with Stern for this.

#37 11 years ago

Yikes if that is the premium I hope someone will do some alternative backglass possibilities for it.

#38 11 years ago

Looks pretty cool. Inline drops yeah! I will try to play one and see if the code is done before buying it. =( I very much like Borg designs just wish LS jr could do software on everything stern.

I really like the look of this cabinet art but also dislike the BG.

Every Premium buyer should be given a complimentary Pro translite....

Pretty sure Lyman is on software for Metallica and possibly co-designed the playfield as well. Co-design may just be one of those rumors though who knows.

I'm calling fake on this pic. Lots of wavy lines where there should be straight ones. Not buying it.

Seems super elaborate for a fake...

That back glass is truly bad. Doesn't gel with the rest of the hand-drawn artwork at all.

Yeah, a true mistake on an otherwise excellent looking project....the Pro & LE look "correct". A Pro translite on the Premium will heal this wound.

Does this mean you have seen the Pro and Premium backglass?

#46 11 years ago

Cabinet art looks great.

Backglass - meh. But it does go with the pin and is similar to ACDC pro.

Personally would prefer backglass without band members but I am not Metallica fan.

#47 11 years ago

I assumed the pic was a fake but the playfield does look real. I like the cabinet artwork, a bit like Scared Stiff - warehouse crate but the backglass is awful. I was hoping there would be no photos of the band looking all old and lame like RS or ACDC but it looks like they couldn't help themselves.

#48 11 years ago

The cab art is from their box set.

met.jpegmet.jpeg

#49 11 years ago

Now this would be a a perfect match to the cab, not that atrocity of a translight photoshopped and uninspired.

Thats the cab art I was told about initially. Like a tour anvil case. Playfield does look like it. Looks like a prototype pro.
