I just installed my shaker motor in my Met Pro. It feels pretty good but it seems that when I set off the electric chair I’m now hearing some vibration as well as feeling it when the motor is really cranking. It seems to be coming from the shaker motor area. Anything I should look at in particularly? Almost sounds like plastic vibrating

#18411 3 years ago
Quoted from yzfguy:

You just installed a motor to shake the game, and now it's shaking?

I guess I should have clarified that it didn’t have the noise at first and it developed after some time playing lol. It appears to be the play field and glass rattling though.

Quoted from Aflacjack:

Just got my snake mod from Pingraffix. I am very pleased and was quick and easy.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Snake looks great. I’m interested in your lighting. It appears you have removed the stock spot lamps and sparky flashers. Are using a pinstadium setup? I ask because I’m getting ready to install side blades and pinbstadiums in my LED pro and I’m looking for ideas for setup and where to connect the pinstadium lights

#18444 2 years ago

Forgive me for my ignorance but does anyone have clear instructions to install the Mezel Mods flashing cemetery gate in a Pro LED? The instructions on their web site have me scratching my head a little. I’m sure it’s simple but this is my first pin and don’t want to chance messing it up. I’m comfortable working on things but I want to make sure the wires are routed correctly and that the wiring ties in correctly as well. Also want to take apart as little as needed, chasing loose screws down is no fun lol

#18448 2 years ago

I’m getting ready to install neo pinstadiums in my LED Pro. Do you guys have any suggestions or cool ideas for settings or which lights to connect to for the best effect?

#18451 2 years ago
Quoted from Sparky:

You should only need to remove the plastic over the drops. Feed the wire through the hole to the left of the flasher behind the cross. From the underside, remove the bayonet holder of the flasher. Replace the flasher with the one they provided, and I think you need to connect the cemetary wire to the new flasher wire (it's been a while, but I think there are tiny connectors). Replace the plastic, but before putting on the nuts, put the cemetary on the threaded post and secure with the nut. I believe only one side gets secured? Can't remember. Be careful when securing. The 3D print material is vulnerable and will break if you secure too tight.
Hope that helps.

That’s about spot on. After I looked at the instructions again and looked at the game itself it wasn’t bad at all. I didn’t even have to remove the plastic. Just the one nut to hold the cemetery gate down. I was able to fish the wire where it needed to go and then used the alligator clips to connect to the existing LED flashers

Quoted from embryon:

Why not just increase your gi intensity setting. I have my game at 70% and it's bright enough. Factory is 50

Does this work with the LED Pro models as well? I would think that LED lights are on or off with no in between

#18555 2 years ago
Quoted from embryon:

Really? My premium lights up well. I actually toned it down from 80%. How high did you go or did your game start strobing at the higher levels

I think premium is primarily incandescent with some added RGB.

Is the ball trough kick up adjustable on Met Pro? Mine kicks pretty hard and shakes the playfield a little when the ball is loaded into the shooter lane

Quoted from John-Floyd:

Purchased the cemetery gate mod recently on my new pro knowing that it is most likely not compatible with the ultimate light show mod I have on mine. Still think it looks great unlit, but is there any workaround to get it to light up? Tried using the standard directions with alligator clips with no success. Any tips appreciated...

Make sure the clips are in the correct spot. Has to be center pin on one flasher and ground tab on the other. It won’t work any other way

Thank you - I will try it again today.

The snake eject on my pro all of a sudden feels weak. Ball comes out but it’s much slower than it was. Bad coil or is there an adjustment I should look at ?

Quoted from yzfguy:

I'd check under the playfield and make sure the mechanism hasn't come loose.

Everything was nice and tight. Couldn’t see any visible wear and tear on the coil, sleeve, plunger, or spring. I just ordered a new coil, spring, sleeve, and plunger and I’m going to replace all of it at once and see what happens

Quoted from j_m_:

which one? the soft plunge into the lit right lane for 4x? (left lit lane for 2x)

I think he’s talking about holding the left flipper when you plunge to allow the ball to come around the orbit. A lot of times it will go around, hit the left flipper and roll into the mystery scoop. You have to let go of the flipper once you plunge for it to work

I agree. I have the Polk PSW10 subwoofer connected to mine and between that and the shaker motor, the floor shakes when the machine is played. It is awesome!

How are you connecting the sub to the game?

Just solder the wires to the sub onto the two tabs on the cabinet speaker.

Disconnecting factory sub and sending the signal to the powered sub, or are you running both?

Need some help with my slingshots. They are super weak and just lob the ball back and forth and I can’t figure out why. New rubber, new switches (left side only just to see if it helped for now) and the coil sleeves are not very dirty at all. I’m at a loss, any advice at this point would be greatly appreciated.

#19726 2 years ago
Quoted from Scott8806:

Anyone run across this yet? The ball is being ejected into the shooter lane way to hard. Is there a way to adjust this down? First time i have ever seen one act this way.
.

How hard is way to hard? Mine is pretty stout and shakes the playfield a little bit doesn’t appear to be doing any damage

#19728 2 years ago
Quoted from Scott8806:

Its pretty hard. i just never heard it be that hard before .

Can you post a video?

#19733 2 years ago

Got this issue fixed. I replaced the q13 and q14 transistors on the driver board and now my slings kick ass. I’m going to replace the snake eject transistor as well because it’s weak with no sign of mechanical failure

#19781 2 years ago
Quoted from Monk:

I'm curious as to why you looked at those transistors to replace and why you thought that would work for your problem? Why would the slings still work in a weak state vs full power if those transistors were no good?

After testing voltage at coil I sent Stern an email and that was their recommendation. Voltage read good but they didn’t have any ass so it seems the amplifying property of the transistor shit the bed. I asked if it was a common issue and they said they have seen it before but it’s mostly seen in weak flippers and the slings aren’t as common.

#19784 2 years ago
Quoted from Monk:

Or people would have never thought to check it. I have seen a few people ask your question and this is the first time I have heard of your solution. It's good information to have. So no DMM testing of the transistors would show the problem either?

Didn’t test them. They were cheap and easy enough to change so I went with it. Voltage is one thing but current is another so I rolled the dice and it worked

Looks like they are tied into the pics

They are so it would effect game play. The spinners would award way to many pics and advance Blackened mode as well as other things.

For those interested, this explains how the pics are used for scoring in Blackened mode. The spinners will change game play some, not drastically.

Quoted from Anony:

I got my premium last night, it's amazingly fun. I have an Iron Maiden which I thought was the best pin but I think Metallica takes the cake. The light show, the mechanisms, the call outs and of course the music. Everything about it is awesome.
It was giving me a weird error when I booted it saying I'm not allowed to play it in my country... turned out to be a ribbon cable on the CPU that came loose some how in transit. That was a fun 15 minutes lol...
A couple quick questions though based on my initial look. Is there no trough eject power setting on these SAM machines? I can control the strength of just about any solenoid on the IMDN but I was having trouble findign these settings on Metallica.
Also I'm finding the LEDs behind the grave stone super bright and shining into my eyes whenever the grave is lowered. Does anyone else have this issue? Any way to solve it other than just capping the bulbs or putting up something to block the light a bit?

Trough eject is brutal on Metallica and no adjustment to soften it up.

My flipper coils are hot to the touch and fade a little after a few games. Not scorching hot but hot enough that you don’t want to leave your hand on it for very long. Is this normal or do I need to do some maintenance and rebuilding?

#20181 1 year ago
Quoted from LOTR_breath:

Flipper coils getting hot to the touch is normal. You should maybe do a rebuild.
At the very least:
1. Remove the coil stop
2. Clean and inspect the coil stop.
3. Clean and inspect the plunger.
4. Replace the coil sleeve
5. Reassemble and test

That’s what I’m going to do. I’d be a little more concerned if one was hotter than the other but they seem to be pretty even.

IMHO Load [1996], Reload [1997], St.Anger [2003], and Death Magnetic [2008] are all competent metal albums. Considering there are only a few current metal bands doing anything that interests me, it's hard to set the bar too high (IMHO!).
Hardwired [2016] didn't grab me and I just listened to their live S&M2 [2020] which sounded like crap compared to beautiful orchestration on the first S&M [1999] live album.

S&M 2 was fucking electric live and in person. We went the first night and it was a vibe and sound like no other.

I always go premium on sterns but went pro on this one and i’m very happy with my decision and this pro machine. And, that I saved at least a few thousand dollars!

Quoted from mbl1116:

I went to look at a game, and noticed it had 1 tech alert (switch 52-grave marker opto) and 2 inserts not going off on the lamp test (circled in the pic)
Didn’t really have time to get much more into it while I was there, but curious what i might be looking at in terms of difficulty/cost for the opto fix
Was also surprised to see 2 LEDs out on a more recent Metallica build[quoted image]

The opto is probably fine. If you don’t trigger the opto in a certain number of games it throws the alert for you to check it. Pull the glass off and trigger it by hand in a game and I’d bet it goes away

#20537 1 year ago

Been getting some wild air balls from the ramp entrance. Anyone see anything out of whack? I know I need to change the magnet core but the issue is along the left side ramp entrance. It happens before it actually gets to the ramp. Also I’ve noticed it happens more from the a left flipper shot up that edge of the cemetery.

Padding looks a bit smashed on the pic target. Could try replacing that. You could also try softer rubber on post up there. Looks like one of those superband type hard rubbers that don't give much. Could also be Sparky's feet if you do not have an extended protector.

I didn’t think about the padding, that’s a good find. I’ll try that first and go from there.

#20630 1 year ago
Quoted from wackenhut:

So under normal circumstances, when you go to start a game, you are able to choose one of the songs before each ball. Does anyone know what could be causing my game to automatically start playing one of the songs without any selection at the beginning of a game. I just recently started having this issue. I was always able to select a song before launching a ball, but something happened where a song just starts and can't be changed throughout the game. If someone can help that would be great.

Sounds like a switch triggering and the game thinks you plunged and that song is what was selected at the time of error

#20632 1 year ago
Quoted from Neal_W:

If the shooter lane switch was glitchy, it would think the ball was launched and lock in the song selection. Loose switch wire, misaligned switch, bad switch, etc.
Also, I don't think you can change the song on ball 2/3 so don't get mislead by that when testing.

Correct. You can only choose a song before you plunge ball 1. Can’t choose song for ball 2 or 3

At the moment I am of no help. Not seeing more details the L-bracket would seem appropriate, but I wonder how it keeps falling off?
Maybe get a longer screw and add a lock washer if there is not enough room with the current screw.
Washers are commonly used to stop screws from loosening.

It’s not screwed down. It’s being held with the included Velcro strips. It’s top heavy and if you shake the game at all it gets to wobbling and pulls the Velcro loose

Quoted from Hayfarmer:

Clean the surface of mount and backbox wirh alcohol. My sparky topper had been on 3 years, never an issue, and I've moved the room around several times

The sticky part stays. The Velcro is pulling apart

#20853 12 months ago
Quoted from Bundy:

When you need velcro that actually stick together use 3M Dual lock, the best velcro around.

I’m not sure what it is. It came with the Velcro strips already on it

Quoted from JvdS:

It’s a DIY job guys. Just drill some holes or whatever.

Definitely not drilling holes in the back box.

#20862 12 months ago
Quoted from Rickwh:

I would shy away from permanent changes too.
So why not get some thin aluminum flat bar pieces. Mount the topper to the aluminum strips then drill holes in the aluminum to match the existing holes in back box?
Basically make an adapter

That’s what I’ve been thinking about. Not exactly sure how I want to go about it though.

Quoted from Jason_Jehosaphat:

Is MET Slated For a Vault Edition Soon?
Zach Meny reported on his TPN podcast that Stern is planning a VE of a SAM title, and it is NOT going to be TRON.
So, what SAM will it be?
They last ran MET in 2018.
They last ran AC/DC in 2019.
They Vaulted Spider-Man in 2017.
What other SAM could they possibly Vault?

I can’t imagine that they would but anything is possible I guess

Working on a proper mount plate for my Sparky topper. I’ll post more updates as I go.

Got my topper plate finished and bolted on. I might change a few things later but for now I’m happy with it.

So.. anyone else who ordered the last run of Metallica topper from Tilt Topper received their order?
I’m near dead last and just not sure if orders are being fulfilled.

Be patient. Mine took 6+ months. They will get it to you.

Quoted from Roostking:

Wasnt he contracted? Zombie Yeti just became an actual employee after how many games?

Dirty Donny was probably a package deal with Metallica. He does a ton of band art for them and I’d say that’s how he developed a relationship with Stern

#21282 6 months ago
Quoted from Roostking:

If Metallica wants another pinball machine and they want Dirty Donny in art, Stern is gonna do whatever Metallica wants.

Facts. Metallica is way bigger than most folks realize. Stern will obey lol

My personal observation is that the rumor is just that, a rumor. People have talked about a 40th anniversary game but in reality Metallica was founded in 1981 and they celebrated 40 years in 2021. Kill em all was released in late 1983 but it’s now December so unless they announce something soon, I wouldn’t count on anything more than a vault release

#21419 4 months ago
Quoted from Apollo18:

Ride the Lightning was released July ‘84
So perhaps a 40th Ride Lightning edition?
RTL Is the main theme of the pin afterall

Very plausible I suppose.

Question. I had the four horsemen mode going last night and it kept counting down for me to hit some shot, but I couldn’t tell what shot it was wanting. Any ideas how that mode works and objectives?

What song was playing? Seek and destroy or blackened?

I decided against it. The pic targets spamming was the deciding factor.

Good call. I’ve debated and debated. Short answer? The pro didn’t come with spinners

I don't see an option for increasing the power.

No adjustment for trough power on SAM games. Reseat/replace optos.

I don't think Met kept lifetime plays and every code update it would go back to 0.

This is correct

Quoted from kool1:

I don't think it's been updated for a long time. 1.63 code.

Final code version is 1.8
