Got my pro today.
This game friggin rocks.

Even in the current unfinished and incomplete state the game is a blast.
It will only get better from here.

Another pic of a feature yet to be implemented:

Perhaps a future volume or song gameplay adjustment?
Or maybe it will function during sparky MB to crank up the voltage?

The one in the showroom was bricking most drop shots.
Mine seems to be fine so far.
I know with new drops there is often a 'break-in period'.
They start off really firm and after play loosen up a bit.

I would try adjusting the pitch slightly.

There are a few selective LEDs that come stock:

Snake head (green)
Behind snake (white flasher alerting multiball is ready)

Spotlight on Sparky (white superbrights)
Scoop: Extra Ball (orange) Crank it Up (blue)

The pops have domes over the lights, not sure if they are LEDs.

I have to say the game looks great with mostly incandescent with a few choice LEDs.

Not a big LED fan myself, I hope Stern doesn't switch the Pros to all LED in the future.

Installed 1.06 last night.
The .BIN is about 87mb, while 1.03 is 134mb.
I was kicking myself for not backing up 1.03, but everything worked out in the end.
I'm guessing they used better compression and got rid of some 'placeholder' files.

The new code has everything in 1.03 + more.

I noticed the following changes:

- Background song fades when you hit Mystery for new sound clip.
- Mystery still only seems to award 500k or 'Add Fuel'
- Coffin hurry up now has a hilarious animation of punks dancing
- Coffin multiball now has animation for multiball start, very cool.
- Coffin mb jackpots are now 'explosions' on DMD. Before they were just text.
- Intro to 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' is now included.
- 'And Justice for All' Mode now has a brief intro. I liked it better when it started ripping right away.

For those who have their game, here's something to shoot for (Factory settings):

I believe Coffin multiball is For Whom the Bell Tolls, but don't quote me on that.
I activated coffin with a stack, so I'm not positive of what I was hearing.
In 30ish games I've only started Coffin twice.
Once with 1.03 and it had no start animations or jackpot animations.

Coffin is extremely tough to get going.
You have to complete the series of picks 3x each to activate each lock (think ZEUS on Tron).
It takes a buttload of time to get all 3 balls locked and start the multiball.

Step 1 of code update erased the previous version I thought?
This process was the large file.
Im not certain but I seem to recall it being over 130mb.

Finally got the external sub rocking, waxed her up, and disabled the orbit up post.
This thing is now FLYING.
Love the orbit to ramp combo.
Goodbye pop bumpers

- Hold left flipper on launch to disable orbit up post for super skill shot (like AC/DC shoot any major shot)
- Attract mode radio! Hold right flipper during attract mode to access FULL SONGS on radio
- Feature adjustment to turn off 'Instructional Speech' ("Hit the Ramp" callouts, etc)

I too wish they would upgrade sound components, it's the one flaw I see in the game so far.
It is easily fixed aftermarket, but at some point stern should invest (even minimally) in upgrading the stock speaker system. After adding a sub to Metallica it sounds MUCH better, but for an audio head you are still missing some mids and proper highs. Out of the box you get only high treble and 0 bass.

To illustrate this, everytime you hit one of the pick targets when lit, you have a loud bass THUD alerting you the shot was made. It sounds great booming out of the sub. The problem is that with the stock speakers, you do not hear this sound effect AT ALL. Plus all the music sounds low quality.

Here are my comments on this from another thread:

"One thing I wish stern would fix is the cheap sound system they put in the games.
Honestly, Metallica sounds like it is being played through a shitty car radio 20 years ago.
Especially for the music pins, get the sound somewhere close to passable.
It would cost them very little to upgrade their stock components.
Even if they pass on the cost, people would pay it.
Those who care about sound end up paying anyway when they do it themselves.

Hell, my old demo man sounded 10x better than Metallica and it came out in 1994. Go figure"

Has anyone scored a snake super jackpot?
I just had a monster game and collected all supers but the snake.
I scored a ton of snake jackpots, but no super!
Is there a combo needed like Tron's light cycle mb?
Or is this just a roadblock to prevent you from getting to a not yet finished wizard mode?

I also noticed that completing any of the pop bumper count downs lights one of three lights at the left dead end shot for a higher scoring total when the shot is made.

Complete letters FUEL to light the red spider arrow solid at the dead end and the shot will award you double scoring for 20 seconds.

This will be a very useful strategy to exploit during multiball to double jackpots, as FUEL mode takes quite a lot of hits to get started (fill tank completely, hit FUEL standups to start)

I hooked up a Polk PSW10 powered subwoofer and the sound is IMMENSELY improved.
Must have mod!

For canucks, the sub is on sale for $99 (free shipping), ends 23/5/13.
Easy install and you can connect two games at once.

Gino, just connect the + and - wires to the existing under cab speaker at the solder points.
You can use alligator clips or strip the speaker wire and wrap it around.

Snake is a gimmie off a rejected left orbit shot on my game.
Flip as soon as the ball reaches the flipper and BAM.
I'm pretty sure I did it every time in my video.
Otherwise, it is very doable from left flipper control.

I've been finally getting the hang of ramp combos and man are they satisfying.
Speaking of satisfying, starting coffin multiball is a feat in itself and very rewarding.

Some bugs in 1.06 I've noticed:

- Drop targets hit don't always display the animation or call out.
I'm pretty sure they did every time in 1.03.

- I fiddled with the volume levels in Feature adjustments and now I have no music fades on drain.

- You cannot combo orbit to orbit on the fly, is this a bug or design? I don't see why the shot would not count.

- Stacking: open the floodgates please !!

Feature adjustment #125 - Speech Attenuation

To make the music louder, you have to set it to a larger negative number - setting it to a positive will decrease the volume.
eg. -30 will boost the music quite a bit.
Play around with the settings to find a good balance
