Now that's what I call a BD.
Quoted from MustangPaul:Now that's what I call a BD.
Thanks Paul.
It has been a great day.
Got a massage, Went to Golden Nugget Casino (And won), and then all the mods came rolling in.
Quoted from Roostking:I checked my LE with close to 1000 games on it and looks unchipped at this point.
Time to get the warranty working. thanks for checking.
I am of the understanding that the black factory rubbers for the metallica can potentially stain the play field and they should be changed. What have people changed them to? and is polyurethane rubbers ok? Color suggestions please.

Black rubbers make the playfield dirtier than white rubbers, but it can easily be cleaned without "staining" it. White rubbers provide more bounce and make games more difficult.
The ball on my Metallica often gets hung up to the left of the rollover lanes in the area of the pop up. Does any one have the same problem? If so how did they remedy it? I tried to crank up the back of the machines height and it seemed to help but did not cure the problem. Thanks in advance.

You can easily adjust the height of the metal/plastic post underneath the playfield. Mine tended to raise during play and then the ball would come to rest against it on soft shots, especially in multiball. The post should be level with the playfield when in the down position.
Thanks, will give it a try.

This was happening when I had my METLE, but doesn't happen on my Pro. On my METLE, I believe there are two posts left of the left pop lane that have individual rings. The ball would come to rest between both. I used a single rubber ring to stretch across both, and the ball never rested there again.
Success! Thanks

Has anyone had any problems with balls getting stuck on the casket magnet after the 1.64 code update? I finally updated mine a few weeks ago (way late I know) and immediately started having problems again. Anyone else encounter this or know of a good fix besides the new magnet board? (I already have it installed)

I had issues with balls sticking to the cross magnet. I switched Marcos silverjet balls for pinballlife balls and haven't had an issue...yet.

Your ball(s) are most likely partially magnetized. Change them out for regular pinballs or PBL shiny balls.

Bingo. Silverjets are a no-no in games with magnets
Quoted from swampfire:I think during Grave Marker MB, the ball is supposed to stick, and you knock it off with another ball for the SJP. Going by memory, so I may be wrong.
He's talking about the Hammer magnet, isn't he? He called it "casket magnet," but maybe he means the gravemarker?
Quoted from swampfire:I made some progress on an MET mind map yesterday. I should be able to finish it this week. Here's a preview. The final version will have much better resolution, for printing on a poster if you like...
Don't forget the skill shot jackpots at the top roll overs while holding left flipper.
Quoted from NightTrain:Don't forget the skill shot jackpots at the top roll overs while holding left flipper.
Oh cool, what's that? I'll have to try that tonight. I've got a lot of catching up to do on this thread. For the diagram, I mostly went by Bowen's 30-minute tutorial video, and my knowledge of the game - that only gets me to about 75%.
I'll post the source file for the mind map when I'm done, so folks can edit it and create their own.
Quoted from Sparky:He's talking about the Hammer magnet, isn't he? He called it "casket magnet," but maybe he means the gravemarker?
I meant the hammer magnet. When the magnet depresses the ball should roll out into the casket. Ever since I updated the code the ball started to not roll off and getting stuck between the magnet and the underside of the playfield. It's the same issue that was happening on much earlier code versions on the old magnet boards.
How on earth do you eject the balls so you can work on the game with the play-field up? I cant find it on any of the menus. Thanks

DIAG..across 5 times to CLR.
Or just use your finger to flick the trough eject plunger from underneath.

It is quite common to activate the mechanism by hand <push up> to eject balls manually.

I like those instruction cards, where did you get those from??
Just google "Metallica pinball pictures" and you'll find plenty. Saved .jpg file and printed from computer on 4 X 6 glossy photo paper after messing with scale to scale down to fit. You actually have to cut a 4 X 6 photo to fit in the card slots.

Is that the mezel mods coffin?
I'm having a problem with the ball ejecting and bouncing back into the trough. I have the metal trough protector on the side of the shooter lane.
The ball bounces back into the trough on top of the next ball, and then two balls eject.
Anyone have experience with this?
Why yes it is, Mr. Tim was kind enough to hook me up with one at the last Pinball Showdown here in Denver this last year. I thought it would look good there since it is the coffin shot and it kinda helps people to know what to hit.

I have experience with it in that it's happened to me several times. Don't really know the sure cure, but cleaning the opto sensors and re-seating the opto connectors under the trough seemed to help me.

Thanks for doing something useful with the sneezeguard. I just removed mine altogether. Haven't had any airball issues off the wireform.

I'm having both this issue, and more ffrustrating is the fact that sometimes the opto sensor( I assume) detects a ball and I lose my flipper s and the ball really does drain. Going to look into this today.

The flippers going dead is the opto connectors needing to be reseated. Do that and it should fix that problem. Sterns are notorious for that. I'm to the point now that every time I lift my PF for any reason I check those as preventative maintenance. No issues since doing that on any of my games.
The two balls being kicked out after one is kicked out and goes back into the through. Reseating connections wont fix that as the second ball is being kicked out as the first ball is falling on top of it (ball has already slid down in the through). It's now clearing what the games thinks is a jamb. If this happens a whole lot for you to where one ball is getting kicked out so hard it hits the wall and goes back into the through you may want to try to weaken the coil that fires the ball into the shooter lane. I did this on one of my games by adding a williams coil plunger spring to the rod that goes into the coil. No issues since. Probably a ghetto type of fix but that was all I could think of.
This is not a Stern bashing post. Just posted to let others know what can happen with this game and maybe others.
Had a big surprise last night on our brand new Meatllica Pro LED.
I pulled the playfield up to install a new mod and heard a big piece of metal and screws fall down into the cabinet.
What the hell?
I looked down to find a large part of the ball trough had just come completely apart.
There was pictured below, a metal rail, spacer, 4 tiny screws and roller switch arm.
Of course we are having a major fundraiser tournament for Project Pinball this Saturday so we had to get this slapped back in working order. Turns out the plastic housing on the roller switch had broken apart so we had to tape it back together (shown below) in order to hold the arm in place.
Then we found out why the assembly fell apart. The 4 screws that hold it in place do not thread into the metal bracket!!!
They just push into place and spin and spin if you try to screw them in tight. So again more tape to the rescue. Lol
I will get some lock tight later, but it is working for now.
Anyone else experience anything like this.?
I have not seen that before. If it's still under warranty, I would provide them the pics and see if they can just send you another trough.

Pat at Stern is taking care of me.
But hopefully if someone else is going to have this problem they can now quickly know what to look for.
Anyone know where I can get the DMD and speaker panel surround sticker that is on the LED version? I'd like to add that to my OG pro.

Same here, if you find them shoot me a message.
Quoted from NightTrain:Anyone know where I can get the DMD and speaker panel surround sticker that is on the LED version? I'd like to add that to my OG pro.
This wouldn't work. The OG panel is the wood speaker panels with square-ish speaker holes. The new panels are the metal ones with the round speaker holes.
You might first think that you could just modify the decal holes to work something out, but the speaker holes and DMD window are lower on the new panels. This would take more than a modification to work and I'm sure it would be much easier just to do a complete redesign to work on the old panels.
Here's a pic of an older style panel, lined up on top of the new panel type. You can see how the speaker holes and DMD are both quite a bit lower.
Thanks for the detailed response. Maybe someone has or will come up with an aftermarket version?
I found this one, but I'm not s huge fan of it...

I don't know why people feel to urge to put artwork on every square inch of a machine. I like the plain black speaker panel just fine.

That's why.
Has anyone purchased/installed the Stern custom backbox kit from cointaker? Either the deluxe or regular version. If so, what are your thoughts.

Yep- I'd rather have classic black than a repeat of the splatter artwork. Now if DD created new artwork for the speaker panel...
