You've got the OG version too. I still have that one on my personal game. I really like the new one I'm making now with the real wood, it was very satisfying to use all my new tools and skills to update an old design and seem my progress. But the original just has a special character to me.
When things slow down I may still laser up a personal one to put in, just to mix it up. But right now I'm still happy rocking the hand sculpted version I did 7 years ago.

One thing I wondered about your hammer is if you extended the bottom to envelope the ball more? It always annoyed me that the stock hammer has a hollow bottom as if they planned on having it come down much closer to the playfield but then it hovers above the ball ruining the illusion that it was hammered into the playfield.

I have the same style and thought I was nuts spending the $$$ for it. It looks great and kinda "Metals up" the pf a bit. I see regular hammers on Met and weep for them!
Quoted from jawjaw:Padding looks a bit smashed on the pic target. Could try replacing that. You could also try softer rubber on post up there. Looks like one of those superband type hard rubbers that don't give much. Could also be Sparky's feet if you do not have an extended protector.
I didn’t think about the padding, that’s a good find. I’ll try that first and go from there.

I was lucky enough to contact you back in the day, after they sold out, just as someone was returning this one to you... Lucky #13! Now will you please make a backboard mod?!?! For the love of Pete, I've been harassing you for 7 years!
Quoted from yzfguy:Now will you please make a backboard mod?!?! For the love of Pete, I've been harassing you for 7 years!
I still don't have a backboard installed on my game after I took my last prototype out, however long ago.
I haven't forgotten all about it, but I'm messing with something ancillary to it at the moment. I'd always had some ideas about including some other plastics with it, and now I've had some thoughts about how to make the cooler, so playing with that.
I need to find someone who can UV print playfield plastics as the size I need. The backboard is bigger than small printers can handle.
There is a killer pro for sale if anyone wants a met and the price is low.

I can’t remember what the Orginal hammer cost 300 I can’t remember I had one also and I believe I like the design and limited aspect over the new one and wish I did not sell mine my Orginal but 600 for the new one was a really hard sell for me though I did buy one.all good.

$300 is correct, mine is #19 with a few missing spikes, due an airball. Leather is coming off, so probably time to pull it out and perform some maintenance.
Aurich, do you remember where those spikes came from?

Yeah the original run of 30 was $300 each. They were each hand sculpted, but I could batch all the work. So I sculpted each one around a 3D core all on once with 2-part epoxy clay. I was able to then lay them all out and prime them together, mix up paints together, etc. Was a lot of work but doing it at once meant I could just spend hours on any given part and do each step all at the same time.
The new ones are twice the price, but now every one is hand made one at a time, and I'm babysitting the laser cutter, cleaning up the wood after, staining etc.
Though honestly the most labor intensive part is the assembly, the spikes aren't for show anymore, the leather bands actually hold the laser cut wood together around the core, so it has to be done properly, it's a structural element.
Quoted from Roostking:Aurich, do you remember where those spikes came from?
Amazon. I tried to order more, and but the ones I got are slightly different, I haven't been able to match the exact ones. You know how it is, bags of stuff from China, you kinda get what you get. They're close though.
This is what I ordered back in the day though: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009M12D44/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title

Woops! I only have a madien and a metallica and those are the two threads I post in. I got mixed up!
Well, I leave the club today. Metallica has been my longest-owned pin at 3 years, but I'm always (too?) eager to play something different. It was and still is what I consider a grail game - I imagine it will re-enter my rotation down the road. In the meantime, someone is getting a very, very nice pin!
I’m thinking about sending the snake head to pinball refinery so he can add the led eyes. Anyone have closer up pictures? Has anyone tried doing it themselves?
Quoted from Medic:I’m thinking about sending the snake head to pinball refinery so he can add the led eyes. Anyone have closer up pictures? Has anyone tried doing it themselves?
I used to do them all the time. It’s really easy and cost about $3.00 in parts
Quoted from OutlawTorn304:The opto is probably fine. If you don’t trigger the opto in a certain number of games it throws the alert for you to check it. Pull the glass off and trigger it by hand in a game and I’d bet it goes away
You nailed it...took a chance and just got the game. Opto and LED issues turned out to be nothing.
It's basically a stock Pro LED, so I'd like to add a few things to it. Already have a ColorDMD on the way. Any other must haves? Speaker upgrade/Particular side blades/etc

Quoted from Roostking:10 inch Polk subwoofer. $100 or so on Amazan. Creeping Death artblades.
You really don't need any expensive cosmetic mods unless you love them. The subwoofer is a nice addition since it's a heavy rock pin and improves the sound. I forget where you get it but there is a larger Sparky plastic that helps prevent air balls off his feet. Snake fangs and tongue decal are cheap and basically stock.
Quoted from Kkoss24:Need the Sparky light show .I hear it’s a must on pros .
Isn't this nearly impossible to find now?

If he is referring to the Total Lightshow then yes, unavailable for years now and no plans to go back into production.

You haven't looked in awhile have you? PSW10 are now $250 on Amazon, I just paid $80 for a used one

This is a must have for this pin, along with the sparky deflector and ColorDMD/Pin2DMD. The stock audio is not bad but the subwoofer is exactly what it needs to fill out the sound.
Youv'e already taken care of the # 1 thing to get, the Color DMD, now upgrade the Sound System to the Best, A Pinwoofer Super Kit for Sam Systems. It's a must have if you want to crank up Met the way it should be played ! Deep Bass and Crystal Clear Sound, all in one system !! Not to mention superb customer service from Dan, he'll answer all your questions !Get One, you won't regret it !

The $80 price was hard to find even back then. Regular price was much higher. I paid around $100 for mine. Other subs will probably work fine. Polk was just a good sub for cheap.

I'm a fan of the polks, work great. For some unknown reason tho, they are much higher priced now,,,,
I am working on some flipper button protectors for Metallica. These are some prototype photos for sizing so actual will be a nicer material. They will be cut onto black plexiglass (or any custom color if you have powdercoating). I may add metallic paper under neigh so the "Metallica" name stands out more.
Plan to work on the Rush LE guitar next to make it available for the Pro/Premium. Please let me know if any interest for MET owners. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I already have an external sub waiting to be connected. I've actually been tossing around the idea of just installing a line out, and using some wall-mount satellite speakers and an old Denon Receiver I have laying around to power them.
As far as light show, do Pinstadiums add anything significant to this game?
Quoted from Lethal_Inc:The pingraffix halo-graphic ones?
I got the non halo ones and love them. Sorry I don’t have a better pic handy

Add the rising cross behind the drop targets (prem and le feature) to your pro.

No kidding .Who made them? You would think there would be a constant flow of demand for these .It took me a couple years to grab a premium also .It came with pin stadiums and whomever set them up did a nice job because the only flash with hits to the 4 MB mechs .They’re more a accent as opposed to some Ive seen on as the GI for games .

Total Lightshow is for Pro models only and is a different thing than Pinstadiums. The Total Lightshow kit was made by TimeBandit and demand was not the issue.
