Quoted from Sixmillion:

Hi Dave, you mentioned that Ironman is oh so fun, would you say you have more “fun” playing it than Metallica? I have fun playing Metallica, but would I have more fun playing Ironman I don’t know.
I only have just the 1 machine so nothing to compare it to. I bought my Metallica new in box 2 years ago, but perhaps no matter which game you have in a 1 machine collection the “freshness wears off “
I know for art, hands down Metallica. As for the stock lighting and sounds, which is better?
Thanks
Mike

I think Dave's description was spot on. I didn't like Iron Man when I first played it when it came out. It was too simple, didn't draw me in at all. The game gained popularity so I had to give it a fair chance. Playing it at home and learning the rules gave me a new respect for the game. It is fast and exciting. My particular game with some powder coating was gorgeous. I think I liked looking at it more than playing it. It got old fast for me and nobody else in the house liked it at all. It didn't last long, Metallica is still here. That being said, Metallica might be the next game to go.

Neither game is rare or hard to find in great shape. If you decide Iron Man isn't for you after 6 months, sell it. Even if you lose a couple hundred bucks, I think you break even renting a game for awhile. There are too many games for any one to be a "keeper". If I had room and money for 30 games there would be some keepers, but at around 10 games, everything has a lifespan.

What's up with Sparky's head?

He’s clearly upset about the code update.

Thanks I had not even realised.

Wonder if I can get some help. Playing today my premium and I notice the sound fading in and out and maybe a bit of crackling noise. Is there any particular connectors I should look at etc. It also affected the speech side as well as music

Quoted from Holtamania:

Hey all,
Hopefully one of you fellow Metallica family members can help me with my newly acquired Metallica Le. I am unable to update my game code, after multiple USB attempts (fat32 format) bin files from stern, it doesn’t seem to get recognised as per pics. I have recently purchased a new epprom just in case that was the issue. Any tips? Thank you in advanced!!

Did you change dip switch 8?

#17955 3 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

Did you change dip switch 8?

Sure did. You can’t even get to the update area without changing dip switch 8. When it goes to scan the USB, it doesn’t seem to find the .BIN file. Have tried multiple USB’s without any luck

Did you try a different stick? Also, what size stick are you using? I think it’s supposed to be 8gb.

Hey mate, yes tried 7 different USB sticks. Ranging from 8,4,32, 2 gig.. all with the same outcome..

Quoted from Holtamania:

I believe 8 gig is the maximum size. I would try a fresh download of the file. Then do a fresh format on a usb stick. Make sure the .bin file is not in any kind of folder and it is the only thing on the usb. It also seems that some brands of usb just don't work.

has anyone replaced the Coffin lock Cube Metal yet or can you just turn it 180 degrees and use other side?

I swapped mine out for a regular captive ball as soon as I got the game.

#17961 3 years ago

i have seen that way done but like original flat Square as is. A shame the edges get burred and can scratch pinballs which is bad so i take care or the edge every so often to smoothen it out and debur the failing steel .. now is indented but i don't know if i can just turn it around or have to buy new Block.

Mac or PC ? Stern code doesn’t like Mac.

I recently acquired a NIB Metallica premium. I had the exact same problem as you when updating to the newest code. I probably tried 5 different USB flash drives with no luck. Finally worked after I used an older USB stick (not 3.0)

I did the same on my premium. I bought the Captive ball kit from pinball life (Plug and play). I was concerned how it would effect game play but I actually think it plays better. Plus I'm getting less rejects for the hammer lock magnet.

2 things to try:
1. grab a different usb flash drive and format it fat32
2. make sure that you flip dip switch 8 on the bank of dip switches (flip the top switch to the left)

If someone would like a free set of these cards in exchange for photos (and possibly a couple of quick videos) of the cards installed in their machine, please let me know and I will get them out to you.

Ordered a new core for the magnet on sparky some time ago finally got around to installing it. I was surprised after a handful of games with the new core there was some dimples on the new one already. It sure was time to change it! Gave the PF a coat of wax and played a bunch of games. Felt good to rock it out.

Side note, When I shoot the left loop, sometimes it won't go all the way around. Was there a way to change out that plunger in the back to a smaller one so it will do the loop. The loop will be lite but the ball will go up and come back down the same way.

How hard was that to get out?

#17980 3 years ago
Quoted from newpinbin:

The nut was on there pretty good. I used crescent wrench and broke that loose. I used a huge screw driver I had and you actually screw it up and out! Don't try to screw it down and out the bottom of the PF. It spun out pretty easy with my monster screwdriver. Someone even said you can use a quarter with vice grips to screw it out.

If you have access to a lathe, you can turn the old one flat and reuse in the future.

Quoted from embryon:

I do and I was thinking about that. Actually there is so many threads on these things I bet you could just run it out from time to time clean it up on a lathe and spin it back in till there are no threads left

I've repaired several mushroomed magnets with a belt sander. I didn't realize they were only $12. Maybe it's the Williams ones that were much more expensive.

I think they are all the same actually no matter what pin?

With some time and elbow grease I've made one usable again with just a metal file.

Anyone know the reason this is happening? How to fix it before it splits?

What is the build date on that? A lot of machines during a certain time came like that from the factory.

That's crazy. I can't imagine how any stress would be out on a decal on that spot after the decal is on and dry.

#17990 3 years ago
Quoted from Jecco74:

i'd remove the bolts, heat up the decal with a hair dryer or heat gun and try to smooth it out by pushing the air out where the bolt holes are with a credit card..

Is it near a heater?

#17992 3 years ago

I didn’t think about it. Yes it’s near the vent for the room. Blows right on it. I will redirect the air today. Thank you!

I blocked the vents in the rooms where I have my machines at for just this reason. hope you can easily remedy your decal issues

I have a Metallica Pro and I’m sure these questions have been answered but I can’t find them when searching.

1. Balls stick to Sparky magnet and don’t come free after he is done getting shocked. I replaced the balls with new carbon and it didn’t work. Ideas?
2. Occasionally, balls bounce straight left out of shooter lane. Any idea on the cause of this?

Any help you guys can provide is appreciated!

#17995 3 years ago

The magnet might not be flush with the playfield, so the ball could get hung up on the lip.

#17996 3 years ago

Just got my PinWoofer installed on Metallica. A truly must have for any music themed pin! The bass on the spinners is F’n nuts. My lady swears this speaker upgrade is making her a better player!!

Marco is out of stock!!!
Does anyone know of another place to get one?

I was getting some ball hangups in the orbit area behind Sparky. When I investigated, I noticed an empty hole near the pop-up post. Is that supposed to be that way? Could someone check to see what hardware should be there and on the underside? I couldn’t find it in the manual. Thanks!
