I'm going to get a Mantis protector asap. I've had a Cliffy on sense day one and Its very hard to make that shot! I'm not a great player but I think it will help my scores a little?!

Quoted from Kawydud:I agree with you, I have this on mine since day one. https://mantispinball.com/product/metallica-protector/
I've noticed that hitting Mystery is very difficult. I have had a cliffy on since day one so i have no real comparison though.

I did as well. What pushed me over the edge to pull it off was i was playing a couple on location a few weeks ago and noticed no wear around the scoop. I was surprised, so decided to live life on the edge and pull it off. I may look into the protector others have listed that protect, but dont change the shot.
I installed these translucent drop targets from pinball-mods.com. They are borderline unbreakable. I lit them up with LED strips below the Playfield. They came out better than I thought they would.

You start off with great job, then $#&% on other parts of it.
Well if your capability of installing plastic use clear if that what you think looks better.

Not trying to crap on it at all mate! My point is that the white light might stand out more without the green cover. It looks bloody fantastic to the point where I bought the same drop targets for mine.

I personally didnt take it that way . Also personally I have the green, while I like it, I can see the point of wanting it clear, especially with those drop targets, they look amazing!
Quoted from LOTR_breath:Put me in the camp of not being a fan of the green protectors. It just looks strange.
I think the green protectors look great on the slings, but I chose to keep the Sparky and cemetery protectors clear on my game ...
MET (resized).jpgI've got a weird issue. Game was in attract mode and on free play. The screen suddenly went dark and the start button is no longer flashing. All the other lights are on but are frozen no longer in attract mode. The game was recently moved so I thought a connection might be loose in the back box, we triple checked and everything is connected. Restarting the game brings the game into the same state, no screen, no start button, but the GI and back box light up. The only funny thing I noticed was the green light next to 5V was not on. Any ideas? thanks
IMG_4381 (resized).JPGQuoted from yzfguy:Make sure the coin door is shut when you're checking those fuse lights.
Coin door only controls high voltage I thought
Quoted from hoby1:Coin door only controls high voltage I thought
Yes, i believe it does. I just remember thinking a fuse was blown based on those lights and it finally occurred to me to shut the door.
The first drop target won't reset. It keeps falling back down. I'll take it apart when I get a chance, but any thoughts?

Replace F12 with a new 5A SB fuse. (F12 and LED3 are shown on page Y30 of the schematics, and supply the AC power to the +-12vdc supply)
Quoted from Dee-Bow:Did u go with the creeping death rails or pinstadium?! I'm thinking of making up a set of the poor man's pinstadiums! I find the C-D rails an too obstructive and always an eye catch when not on.. they do look radd when flashing tho!
I went with the creeping death because of the price. They are like a poor mans pinstadium. The rails aren't distracting, they add to the game, makes it look like it has more to do. My only complaint is they obstruct the view of the fuel target.

So this is weird. The picture I took shows the light on the F12 fuse low but in real life all the lights are the same.
Even though the f12 fuse doesn't seem blown I did replace it and nothing happened when I rebooted. I took it out and put the old one back in, nothing. Then I took the old one out and tried the new one again and the game booted like normal! Then I pressed start, it launched a ball, and everything went out again.
The fuses do not look blown, is this maybe a bad solder on the board? We tried wiggling connectors and nothing.
thanks for the help everyone.
Quoted from LOTR_breath:Never heard of a Dirty Donnie premium. Are you talking about the difference between the Monsters and the Road Case?
Catching up on this thread, don’t know how many were made . I recall JJ from The Game Exchange getting some when they came out.

Id like to brighten things up but dont wanna wash out the lighting effects from my total light show kit. I guess best world would be for the total light show to be able to set the color of the pin stadiums interactively.

OK, that LED3 is for an AC line, so your photo just caught it mid flicker. A second photo probably would have got it.
You said some green light for 5volts was not on? Which one? Is it on momentarily when the pin works briefly?
EDIT - OK, I see LED4 at the bottom of the photo. (so much glare I missed it)
Quoted from LoganJK:The only funny thing I noticed was the green light next to 5V was not on. Any ideas? thanks
Yes, measure your 5V and see what you have; its probably either missing or very low. Just reading the symptoms and looking at the picture, you likely have a failed bridge rectifier BRDG4 (DB3501) or a failed 5 volt regulator U12 (APXW005A0X3).
Your 5V originates as 13VAC from the transformer and enters the Power board on pins 8 and 9 of J17. Its safe to assume that this voltage is there since your L7 lamp is lit which signifies that you have AC voltage to the bridge rectifier (BRDG4)for this circuit.

Wait a minute...Your Power driver board is very different from mine. Can anyone answer why they would be different?

EDIT: I answered my own question Premium/LE machines have a different Power driver board than Pro models...unfortunately I don't have a schematic for the Pro model.

thanks for the help everyone.
Always buzz a fuse with a DMM, many times they can look OK but infact be bad.
Quoted from Pin_Guy:I found a schematic![quoted image]
Thanks for all your help so far. The game is still under warranty, would this be easier for me to ask for a new board? My multimeter is at my workshop and I'm not suppose to leave my house for non essentials

Pinball is essential.

If its under warranty and happens again you may want to touch base with Chaz at Stern Pinball or contact your distributor.

They are amazing make Metallica really pop. Also the UV hooked up to sparky is really cool.

To me warranty means they fix or at the least give you areas to look at. In my country you void warranties if you try to repair without them saying ok. Let your dustro know and follow his instructions

Do you mean UV lights in the 2 spots facing sparky? Not sure where to put them.

That’s a pretty sweet lookin MET!
Quoted from snakesnsparklers:Mezel Mods used to sell them but I don't see it on their site at the moment.
I contacted them and unfortunately the sparky wire mod has been discontinued.
So has anyone made their own sparky helmet wire mod? And if so, how did you make it?

I would actually pass on that mod as I hear that sparks head does not shake very well with it on. Just an FYI

Check out what adafruit sells. You can make your own in any color pretty easily. Wire it to the voltage near the coin door and you're all set. You'll have to cut and cap the wire to the length you want. Then just use a blow dryer to set some curls in the El wire. I did something very similar for my walking dead
MVIMG_20200211_193137 (resized).jpgI finally made it.. and have now an extra song to choose from when I start my game!
Have been trying to get it since 2 weeks. Had it once lit and then drained....
Now reached it and what a great mode it is!
Settings are dflt, outlanes in the up position, 3 balls and max 2 extra balls (one from the captive ball and the other from combo's OR pistons).
The outlanes in the up position made a huge difference in the game being a lot lot harder. Very often my pops or sparky throw the ball down the outlane..

Those look great! Wonder what they’d look like in red, or blue...
I recently replace the stock square block on my LE for the regular newton ball and assembly from pinball life. Now I regularly get airballs onto the Graveyard predominantly. Has anyone else experienced this upon swapping and if so, what was your solution?

Oh Wow, Thanks for bringing this up
I was going to do same as block looks a little hammered.
Hope someone has solution ?

I replaced mine the day I got the game. I can easily bank off the Newton ball into the snake, but don't get airballs at all.

I also bank into the snake easily but hitting the other side.......
