Quoted from DaveH:

These are 3 statements from a person that should NOT sell his Metallica. In fact, I can take that a step farther... these are 3 statements from a guy that will have to buy another MET later for more money... Heed my words (and your own)... these are not the sounds of someone ready to sell a game.

This is true. Lol.

I have been back and forth on getting sparky customized. It seems so permanent, like deciding on a tattoo! As a rangers fan, I was considering having him done up as a NJ devil.

I know Vinny is workin on a seattle Seahawks sparky for a friend and new pinsider.. my game was purchased with the custom sparky and i had no say in it! I dunno what i would of asked for.. But i love it! I've since added matching shooter rod and the snake head & ramp mods too..I've never met the man.. just keep sending him my money dammit!

I know what you are say. I also have the grave around the drops. And the skull hammer he did. Looking at getting the snake ramp mod next his work looks amazing. Hope to meet him one day as he’s not to far from us.

After 6 yrs of ownership time for something new and it left the house yesterday
Was a choice between tspp and met and I let faith decide, eg put both up for sale and see which one goes first. It was Met going to a friend.
I do have however first right on buying it back when he wants to sell it
It has been fun.

sounds like the deal I had to make when I bought mine

#16955 4 years ago

I've seen your thread on that skull hammer instal on your METpro twilight.. clean work and tempting....damn u!

#16957 4 years ago

Just made these for my game. The instructions are perhaps overly simplified, but it works for me.

Quoted from Rickwh:

Hitting the snake should light 3 snake inserts. The snake insert under the lit spider, and the snake inserts for the shot on either side of the lot spider.
Sounds like you are either hitting the snake and the hammer block together, or the snake switch is registering even though you just hit the hammer block. Maybe play around in switch test mode and throw a ball at the block and see if the snake jaw registers too?

Awesome! At least I know that the snake inserts are supposed to light, thank you!!

I would say the snake is registering on the block hits as sometimes when I hit the target to the right (left stand up that is in front of the ramp), it can register a ramp shot...so maybe a few switches there need adjusting?

He just did the Pro version as well, and the thing is a fun change up for the holidays!

Highly recommended.

Quoted from Viggin900:

There is a german company who makes the green protecters but has the middle cut out. Apparently the colors are still there but heard mixed reviews without pics? Anyone?

Jay, it’s Freddy’s Pinball Paradise in Germany. Product is called Convolux. They come in green, orange, red and yellow.

I just put an orange set on mine last night. And finally installed the CD rails, an orange rubber kit and the coffin skull mod.

Yes im thinking you may need to adjust a switch or two. Use switch test mode to figure out which ones are registering when they shouldnt. Sounds like whatever switch detects snake jaw hits. I have a pro So the snake mech is different or id offer more specific help.

Good luck

Very nice. I have the green pinbits protectors. They are very good quality but man they make the whole game green. i may get clear ones.

Beautiful game. I gotta get some of those green plastic protectors.

I have a new extra set of the green ones from Pinbits if anybody’s interested.

Yeah, I had green Convolux on my last MET. This is my 3rd one. Every time I sell it I regret it.

The orange makes the game a little more orange in the lower PF too, but seems to match a little better.

So is it worth getting convolux protectors instead of pinbits? Is the colored light flashing still muted with these? Thanks guys!

Convolux only comes with the pieces I posted above. It doesn’t come with the Sparky protector or the outlane protectors like the Pinbits kit does.

Orange doesn’t cut out on the flashing as much as green IMO.

#16967 4 years ago

it also doesn't come with the graveyard protector

I am truly a simpleton some days.

I edited my post above. I initially said the Pinbits kit I have was missing the sling and ball return guide protectors...but they are all one piece and are pictured in the photo I posted. So they partially cover the return lanes as well.

Just as an update, I tested all switches in switch test....fine! No problem. I even showed a mate that the lightest of touch on the left hand ramp entrance target would activate the snake inserts rather than the snake itself.

Underside all looks good as well. no switches broken or needed to be replaced.

He seems to think a factory reset may be needed as it could be a software thing?!?

...and for those reading wondering what I'm talking about that I need help with....my hammer block and left target at the right ramp entrance activate the snake inserts when they shouldn't. Looking for help please!

In the switch test, do you see any snake switch activate when you touch those switches? Does the snake eject switch register normally?

No, it doesn't activate the snake. The switch in snake mouth registered fine.

Quoted from Jimmyhonda:

Yup, that’s what I need the premium/LE plastics for. I’m afraid to cut mine.

I just started to replace the rubber on my game and noticed page 165 of the PDF from IPDB has a picture of the LE plastics. I was looking for the rubber chart. I measured the page in Bluebeam, I got 46' 9". 46.75 divided by 8 1/2 (size of a normal piece of paper) got me very close to scale at 5.5 (550% print size). I did some slightly intoxicated research and found 540% to be very close. I will report back with more results....

Finally reached EOTL tonight after several years of ownership. Was down to my last ball and hit the CIU scoop and was so stoked to finally reach the wizard mode. Had the two ball EOTL mode going for quite a while and collected 79M for that mode alone and an all-time GC score of 671M. Such an awesome game that will never leave and now I can choose the EOTL song during games. Woohoo! I’d you don’t have a PinWoofer system in your Metallica, highly recommended!

Nice job, i still havent hit EOTL

I never choose EOTL for regular gameplay because I like to keep it as a "treat" for reaching the wizard mode, but I chose it last night and noticed the Super Skill Shot is not available on ball one because it changes the song. Ball 2, 3, and EBs are no problem because the song is locked in for the entire game.

Yeah, I wish the song changed on the release of the flipper button instead of the pressing so this could be prevented. Its a small thing but...

No, it works. What you've gotta do is scroll all the way to the right to EOTL. Now hold in the left flipper which changes to Fuel. Now while still holding in the left flipper quickly flip the right flipper to get back to EOTL. Now you can plunge Super Skill Shot with EOTL playing..

the disappearing ball magnet stopped activating and grabbing any balls to lock in my MET premium. any ideas on the first place that I should start to look?

is there a separate magnet board for the hammer disappearing ball mech?

the sparky and graveyard magnets are still working just fine

edit: crisis adverted. I'm exactly sure what I did but after taking out and checking a few of the fuses that didn't have a red LED lit (fuses tested ok still) and going into the service mode and testing the magnet, everything started working again. when I tested the magnet functions for the disappearing ball earlier, nothing was working, but this time everything was working just fine.

tested the game by striking the lock enough times to capture 3 balls and it worked flawlessly so I'm not exactly sure what the actual issue was

#16986 4 years ago

Good that it worked out well. As a note, if you have the coin door open when looking at the fuse leds, some of them will not be lit because of the coin door interlock. If you close the door, all of the leds should be lit for the fuses. Not sure if that was happening to your not, but it confused me the first time I was looking at the fuses.

Does anyone do cpu/sound board repair for Metallica boards? I've got a problem with mine. Everything on J1p3 is dead. Tested for continuity and it tested positive...530 bucks for a new one on marco...yikes

I'm no expert,
So everything on J1-P3 is not working. All three pop bumpers, right and left slings, right inlane return and out lane, left inlane retune and out lane, shooter lane and the troughs.
Sounds like $5.00 (TRANSISTORS) Q2. I'm at work and can't get to manual. I hade to replace one on my Stern POTC. Let me repeat myself, I'm no expert. Enjoy time with family and wait on experience people to chime in. Merry Christmas

Check the easy stuff first:
Fuse, transistor, header pin for cracks, diod etc.

Proud owner of a Met Premium.
This is a proper mans pin, love it in every way.
Awesome!!

Just a quick one - the mystery scoop sometimes doesn’t recognise the ball has dropped in...... goes into search mode. Is this a simple fix?

Ill have to see if the transistors surface mounted or regular soldered. If its surface mount I'm unable to work on it myself.

Checked the fuses already unfortunately, they all tested good. I'll check for cold solder joints. I know the CPU is all surface mount though, I'll have to see if the other boards are..

I just got an unpopulated replacement playfield from Stern for my newish Met
Premium (clearcoat issues). Any idea how much it would cost to do a playfield swap on this game? Anyone know someone in my area who would do it?

Met is a keeper for me, so I’m thinking I’ll play the hell out of the current one for a few years and then do the swap. I’m ok doing basic repairs but I’m afraid I’ll f—- it up if I attempt anything as ambitious as a full playfield swap. Thanks for any info.

Making a big move and having to downsize. Ended up selling my MET Pro the other day. Sad to see it go, but it is what it is...
Deep in this thread I added some pics of me at their recent concert, backstage getting both a Monsters and a Road Case translite signed. I'm keeping the Monsters, but *considering* selling the Road Case translite signed by all the current crew.
If you think you might be interested, shoot me a PM with your offer. If a deal comes across that sounds legit, we can chat further. Serious inquiries only if you don't mind.
Thanks everyone.

Thanks,
I noticed the switch in the mystery hole is orientated to the right side of the trough.
So when the ball was resting in the hole it wasn’t activating the switch.
This was due to the ball sitting to the left of the switch on occasion.
I properly levelled my table right to left - actually more prejudice to the right and now activates every time.
Just in case someone else needs help with this

#16999 4 years ago

The nylon tip of my (pro) mystery scoop plunger broke off tonight. Now when the VUK coil fires, the plunger isn’t long enough to contact the ball and the game can’t clear balls from the scoop.

Looking at the pathetic stern manual pdf online it appears that the part of this is
515-7318-00. 3.375 inch plunger

Marco is out of stock. Pinballlife doesn’t list it at all. But has a similar part 515-7309-00 that says it is a common vuk plunger used on many games. From what I can tell that 7309 one is slightly longer at 3.57 inches.

Anyone replace this before? Think I’ll be ok to get the longer one and maybe sand/file/cut it down to 3.375. Or think the crap manual has the wrong part number.... the snake vuk seems to use the 7309 plunger. I can’t find the orbit pop up vuk to see what it uses...

Maybe I’ll have to take my mystery mech apart and measure the part to verify.

Sigh
