Everything in it's place. Changed out my Pro translite for the new signed Monsters one, and today I made an LED light box for the signed Road Case translite. Loving it!!!

Quoted from ChipScott:

So...
Last year my wife gave me the birthday present of all birthday presents. Hardwired experience at the Birmingham Metallica show. I waited all year long, and finally went this past Tuesday night! It was awesome.
Before the show, my wife and I went backstage with the band. Hung out with the band, they were all relaxed and cool to hang. I brought 2 pinball translites (including a Monsters, which I received already signed by DD), which they were happy to sign and actually rather stoked because they like to talk pinball! James says he has a MET pin at the house. He says folks that come by and his kids love to play it. Seemed to me that Kirk was the biggest Pinhead. He listed off four or five pinballs that he had in this current collection. My head was spinning, so all I can remember was that he had an Addams Family in the mix...hahaha. And then I went front row for the show... just an absolutely awesome experience. About two songs in, a guy came by and gave me a signed setlist for the night's show.
My head is still spinning about the whole experience. Also before the show, they had a room with all sorts of memorabilia. This also included some old scrap papers they had scribbled on when they were creating some of the songs we all remember. I was blown away....
Thought I would share some pictures from the night.

I just received my Metallica Pro Pinball Refinery Edition and I have to say that this machine is awesome! I started looking for a standard Pro and then got connected to Steve at MI Pinball Refinery and decided to splurge and get this beauty. I have to say that the whole experience was outstanding. I am new to the pinball scene only recently acquiring a beautiful Stargate so I had plenty of questions for Steve. He was more than happy to talk to me multiple times before making a decision. After I did, he kept me informed along the way and gave me some other tips for when the machine arrived. The machine arrived in perfect condition and right on time. I was super impressed! If you are on the fence about getting one of these or any PB Refinery machine, just do it. Top notch quality and craftsmanship for a one of a kind pinball. Here are a few pics but they don't do it justice...

Uh, 'tis a gavel, bruh'.

Have you ever thought much about the "hammer" on the MET Premium playfield? I think John Borg is a bit of a twit. He put a gavel (inspired by the album art from AJFA) on the playfield but insisted on calling it a hammer. Collectors who buy the game don't know any better. I s'pose the gavel is less badass than a hammer, so no one at Stern or their publicity team was all that motivated to call a spade a spade. I mean, look at it. It ain't no hammer. It's a gavel. If you accept that it's a gavel, the layout becomes more "judicial" and less - I don't know, destructive? As I say, less badass. A gavel is struck against a wooden disc, typically, to command instant attention, to restore order in a courtroom, to finalize a ruling, etc. But what is MET's gavel actually doing? Is it calling the proceedings to order? Is it emphasizing a proclamation? Well, no: it's coming down to crush a pinball. Makes perfect sense. Good job, John Borg.

If it's still not obvious, you might consult Pushead's own gavel image that grace's AJFA's LP sleeve. If Stern didn't pay Mr. Pushead royalties for this gavel idea, they should count themselves lucky. Good job, Gary Stern.

I feel like you answered your own question. It's not hitting wood or bring court to order. Its bashing balls. It's a hammer.
Either way, I have a pro. No hammer.
Edit: Borg is awesome

The lyric is :"Hammer of Justice crushes you." Yes, a gavel is used in the courtroom, but I think Metallica is saying the gavel represents justice, but when that gavel is used maliciously, it becomes a hammer, that crushes...

Case dismissed!

For those that have installed spinners on the Pro, did you also install diodes on the spinners switches, or would that be redundant because you tap into the pick targets which already have diodes?

#15575 5 years ago
Quoted from snakesnsparklers:

I did... and forgot the diodes... the spinners didn't work... added the diodes and they did!

Quoted from snakesnsparklers:

I installed the spinners in conjunction with RedshiftLED's sound caller board/cable. It comes with long leads that tie your spinners to two connectors on the CPU. This arrangement was described to me by other Total Lightshow owners as the optimum way to install spinners on a MET PRO, so I went that route. The OP didn't mention Total Lightshow, so he may be connecting his spinners to a nearby switch - that of the pick targets, perhaps. But you're right: new switches need diodes if you hope to add them to your switch matrix.

Fair points, Gray and Roost.

I still it's a butt-ugly gavel in the middle of the playfield.

Sorry to dare to dis' Borg. This is, after all, a fans' group as much as an owners' group.

One more hammer reference: in one of the least-performed tracks from RTL, Escape, the lyric is "...See them try to bring the hammer down...No damn chains can hold me to the ground..." So sure, James has been thinking a bit about hammers and crushing since at least '83. Still, if Borg wanted a hammer in his playfield, he might have shaped his like the one on the KEA album cover. Instead he saw Pushead's artwork and confused his own imagery. Just sayin...

Seriously though - why does the ball bounce out of those left inlanes straight into the left outlane so frequently!!?

My last Pro LED did it, but this (slightly newer) Premium is even worse!!!

As soon as the ball goes anywhere beyond the top of the left slingshot it's all hands on deck to stop the ball doing some weird levitation trick and jumping over to the left outlane...

Could i maybe add a cable tie (cut off the excess) onto the side of the middle separating wire, that way the ball would hit a plastic, not metal, deadening the bounce maybe?

It happens so often...

Could put a screw through the playfield at the entrance to the outlane. Kill 2 birds - no more Borg bounce and get entered into worst hack thread.

#15586 5 years ago

I just consider the bounce a "charm" of Borg's designs. Instead of modifying the machine, I've tried to come up with a plan to deal with the bounce before it happens. If I know the ball is going to hit the top of the left sling or the top of that lane divider, I quickly deliver a sharp little forward bump to the lockbar in order to impart a little upward trajectory to the ball, so it's not as likely to bounce directly over to the left and out that left out lane. I consider it to be part of the fun in battling the machine. The Borgy Bounce still gets me sometimes, but it's not as bad as just sitting there and watching it happen every time, LOL.

#15587 5 years ago

I just closed the outlane on the left. It still goes down there but not as frequently.

Kill em all, sadly, is not on the pin, AJFA is, thus the gavel/hammer.

HAMMER OF JUSTICE CRUSHES YOU

#15591 5 years ago

So i got a Metallica premium and its become about a nightmare to lock a ball in the coffin lock. The magent just does not seem to be grabbing the ball and i dont remember it being this bad. I called stern and they advised me to replace the board under the play field. I did and yeah still a no go. I read out the coil and it reads 5ohms and checked connections obviously. I see a setting on the menu in msec but it doesnt seem to help. Anyone got advice. I roll the ball over the magnet and it seems to grab it fine. The magnet works its like its not sensing the ball
Even with a new board

Is the ball rolling over it and not catching? It's not gonna pull it from the neighboring playfield, not sure if that's what you're expecting or if it really isnt grabbing?

If i hit the block directly and the magnet rolls over the switch it doesnt seem to connect it. When it hits i can watch it roll over and even push the magnet down a touch

can anyone using a colordmd and running the 1.80 code supply any instances of frames not being colored? I've held off updating my code because of what I thought I read when 1.80 originally dropped but I'm not seeing anyone post anything lately, so was it just a false alarm?

I've got 1.80 and colorDMD. I made it all the way to End of the Line twice and haven't seen any non-colorized stuff. Of course, I'm mostly looking at the playfield.

Not sure if this will help but try turning setting 89 to NO. Factory is yes. This was related to phantom hits and ball not staying on magnet...it worked for me. Good luck.
