Unrelated to magnets, but after getting stuck in the mid 200Ms for a long time I finally threw a 390M GC onto my Metallica last night. Feels good man. Completed FWTBT and got the hell outta there fast, had a decent Fade to Black, and unfortunately an aweful Enter Sandman but still digging the new GC.

Don't you love it! Nothing is more satisfying in this game than getting the fuel x2 multiplier and then hitting CIU and completing it to cash out for a double jackpot. Just happened to me the other night and it was a bit over 70mil jackpot.

#10253 7 years ago

Backed down the magnet core a tad, but I think I'll order another one because the top of the core just isn't level. So while before it seemed to be raised, it was a bit in the front but the other side was not as much.

This wrench came in handy because that nut was on tight and my largest socket was still too small.

#10254 7 years ago

You can also recondition your magnet core by grinding it flat, then you have a spare ready to go for the next swap down the road. Belt sander would work.

#10255 7 years ago

I replace my magnet cores quite frequently.....more than most would I'm sure.

I have a love/hate with that fuel double jackpot XD
It feels amazing when you make it... but I drained a 100M CIU jackpot with fuel scoring on while trying to make that shot. It rejected on the scoop SDTM. Watching 200M drain hurt. I think I even posted about it some weeks ago (edit: I did). I'm not sure I'll get over it until I make a 200M jackpot lmao

That drain has become sort of a fish-that-got-away legend for me.

Is my snake jaw too high?
What is the concensus on lowering it? Washers from the bottom?

I feel like the snake rejects more than it should. Really I can only get it in by banking it off the newton cube.

Your snake jaw is too high. Mine was exactly like yours too. There are 2 popular opinions for fixing this which can be found by searching pinside threads:

1: There is a screw adjustment on the release coil mechanism which may help if adjusted. But, that really isn't for adjusting the jaw height and has more to do with adjusting the latching mechanism. Adjusting this had no effect on my game.

2: Remove the snake mechanism and remount it with washers as spacers between the playfield and mechanism. I glued 2 thick washers in place at EVERY screw hole on the mechanism which made remounting it easy. 1/8 inch on my game did the trick.

Looks like your hammer block is toast too.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

Really? Why do you say that? This is only after ~500 plays. If you look at the other pictures of the cube on Pinside this type of wear seems pretty normal. "toast" to me means doesn't work / will fail / will cause problems soon. I think I could play for another 5000+ games before this part fails.

I may change the newton cube out to a newton ball for gameplay reasons but I think the cube will work for as long as I want to leave it in.

If that is toast, mine is like Chernobyl. I do intend to get the pro setup though. Which reminds me ....where can this be purchased again?

pinball life sells the newton ball.

I had the newton ball on my premium, but put back the block. The reason is that I was getting airballs of the ball.

Ive never had an issue with air balls on my road case. Did you get the newton ball with the metal base?

Yes. I don't mind the block since the hammer obscures it anyhow.

Some really cool dots,
the horseman are awesome !

So want to make EOTL

Code still requires work
in particular graveyard 'falling asleep' during certain modes
Hope Lyman has the time to perfect one day

It's a official guys, I'm not the owner of a NIB Metallica Pro. What a day it was. The grand opening of Arcade Expo, receiving my Met Pro (and GB Premium) and....ready for this, meeting Dirty Donny, chatting for a long time and having him sign my translite and arpon. What a friggin' day!

Just finished up a batch of guitar pick lights so you can see the lit rollover lane lights blocked by the Pingraffix Snake mod.
The spiders match the playfield graphics but all look nice. If you like the googly eyes on your translight, there's one for you.

Is that a metal cigarette case? I've seen similar ones at the flea market.

Quoted from PoMC:

No, it's a solid piece of metal, the skull is glued on and the eyes light up.

#10272 7 years ago

Do a search for coffin cigarette case and there are so really great designs. One purple coffin with skulls would looks really cool.

#10273 7 years ago

Getting some good ideas for a new coffin, even though I like the one I made already. Very easy to light up the skull eyes with these coffins since they open up. Drill out skull eyes, stick a red LED strip in the coffin and wire it. I think the purple coffin with all the skulls looks like a nice match for Metallica and drill out a few sets of eyes for the LED strip

and it would look great.

Aren't they a little big?

#10275 7 years ago

Dunno. Just getting ideas. They are 4" long, but there are other designs which are about 2.5". How long is that other one? Have to go out later and will stop at the head shop and see what they have in stock to see in person.

I just prefer to make my own mods instead of buying one already done. I enjoy it and it's fun for me.

#10276 7 years ago

I have Zenes coffin MOD too.....and this lane switch guitar pick MOD that he personally installed himself! Great guy and has a nice touch for doing MODS

Throwing this out just for fun and for comments. I'm replacing a song on Metallica again and have a few choices shown below.

Unforgiven was replaced already with a covers medley of Last Caress/Green Hell/Too Late Too Late. Worked good because I have to fit the song into the 6'26" slot of Unforgiven. Each song also has to work at the 15" mark because that begins playing at the end of each game. Also has to work at the 3'40" mark because that begins playing when entering your name for a high score. My wife just doesn't like Too Late and even though the other songs work in the spots, especially Last Caress, I just want to go with a single song in this slot.

Here's the choices that I like so far and will work in the slot.

Broken Beaten & Scarred

Sabbra Cadabra (I really like as a fun pinball song, but does drag in the middle)

How about It's Electric

If I recall, Shortest Straw is a great replacement time wise, otherwise The Thing That Should Not Be.

I missed Shortest Straw. Another strong contender.

Can anyone explain how or what is hit to allow the ball to Loop all the way around the back rather than being stopped by the diverters? most the time it hits the diverters but I know sometimes it Loops I just don't know why it does each thing specifically?

Start And Justice For All mode by spelling Metallica and it loops around. Also on the Super Skill Shot when you hold the left flipper when plunging. Maybe other times as well, but that's all I can think off of the top of my head.

About 2.35 inches, 4 inches would cover all the balls.

Shoot either ramp, then hit the loop, the post won't stop it as long as you got the loop immediately after the ramp.

Hi guys about to join the club with a nib premium. Can anyone advise on whether the fuel gels work on the latest premiums? Thanks

#10287 7 years ago

Yep post stays down during strings of combo shots. So hit one shot and then either loop and the post will stay down until the combo shot timer (few seconds) ends.

They work an all premiums. I actually bought a set of the fuel gels for my pro before I realized they do not work on pros... Send me a pm and you can have them.

Just measured and only the inside ball would be covered with a 4" coffin, which is fine with me. The coffins are so cheap that I'm going to try one out.

Does anyone know what the ramp metal gauge/thickness is?

I'm thinking about duplicating this type of ramp for another game. Thought it might be a cooler solution than making some sort of protector for the ramp entrance.

POMC-- go with Shortest Straw dude! Love that album. I've been wearing out the older stock tunes (Battery never gets old!!!). Time to donate and make it all Kill em All. I'm just so technology ignorant so I keep putting off. Today is the day!

Dumb question: when the spider insert is blue, is that your lit lane to collect the grave, Sparky, and snake? Then once collected, shoot the lane again? And what exactly does this accomplish? My scoring appreciates any help.

#10300 7 years ago
Quoted from Gryszzz:

Dumb question: when the spider insert is blue, is that your lit lane to collect the grave, Sparky, and snake? Then once collected, shoot the lane again? And what exactly does this accomplish? My scoring appreciates any help.

Yes. The blue spider insert indicates the selected lane. Once all three items have been collected in that lane, it will start flashing. Shoot the lane one more time, and this will start a hurry up at the captive ball. If you nail the captive ball before the timer expires, it will lock in that lane, getting you closer to Seek and Destroy. Locking in a lane also makes it easier to get to CIU, since every time you nail that shot you will be awarded all three items.

This is a nice rundown of the rules ...
