Quoted from Kawydud:

You do notice the clear lifting by the ball return right?

Quoted from Delta9:

Time for a cliffy set

Guys, chill out, the clear is not lifting, it's a slight discoloration in the wood. Man, people trying to find fire where there's no smoke. I also looked very closely at every single insert, all perfect.

This is lifting...

I don't mind either way, my MOPLE probably has clear being worn off in that area. It just looked like it was not sticking to the wood there. My bad.

That is the beginning of it lifting, the light colored areas are where the clear is starting to seperate from the wood.

You're going to want to cover that area with mylar or a cliffy asap to stop it from rapidly becoming worse.

Certainly not a big deal if you get it protected. Sorry.

I never updated to the latest code update about 6 months ago.
How is it ?

Hey that's my machine! Yes, the MET is lifting under the apron. Looked exactly like the first picture here (https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/hey-stern-are-you-serious/page/75#post-3313793) on SMVE. The "discoloration" happens before it actually lifts/chips/cracks. The clear coat is starting to lift from the play field.

Unfortunately, you're recipient of a poor quality play field.

It is the best.

V1.7 - June 19, 2016
====================

- Timed modes (Blackened, Coffin Hurry-Up, Fuel, Lady Justice, Seek &
Destroy) were not being paused when the Crank It Up mode select was
active. This has been corrected.
- Changed combo scoring so 3+-way combos increase in value much more
quickly.
- Fuel lane now awards 1 blown piston for each lit light, instead of
1 blown piston for all three lit lights.
- Added speech to the "Enter Sandman" and the "For Whom The Bell Tolls"
modes.
- Synced knocker to run with replay/special effects.
- Added speech for chair guy fry ready (electric chair multiball).
- Added a speech call for snake lock lit.
- Fixed player up effects so they wait for speech.
- For whom the bell tolls mode was not displaying the score correctly.
This has been corrected.
- Added mystery awards for the "Crank It Up" modes:
Battery -
Awards 1 sparky hit.
Lights all shots at level 2 (blinking).
Increases the sparky value.
Increases the shot values.
Enter Sandman -
Awards the first blinking shot from left to right.
Lights 1 additional item.
Increases the shot values.
Fade To Black -
Awards the blinking shot.
Requires 2 fewer switch hits to achieve the next fade level,
to a minimum of 5 switch hits per level.
Increases the shot values.
For Whom The Bell Tolls -
Awards the first blinking shot from left to right.
Lights all shots to complete an entire column (1 time).
Increases the shot values.
There is no advantage to increasing the mystery level before collecting
the award; the award will not improve.
- Cross/electric chair/coffin/snake super skill shots now award +1
of the item towards bonus/crank it up/end of the line bonus for each
regular skill shot made.
- Fixed a problem with the bonus where stopping the bonus presentation using the
flipper buttons would leave one of the item flasher effects (cross,
electric chair, coffin, snake) running.
- Some switches would be flagged with an error in the tech alert when
they should not have been. The list of offending switches are:
TOURNAMENT START BUTTON
START BUTTON
TROUGH JAM
LEFT COIN
CENTER COIN
RIGHT COIN
FOURTH COIN
FIFTH COIN
TILT PENDULUM
SLAM TILT (OPTIONAL)
TICKET NOTCH
BACK
MINUS
PLUS
SELECT
DIP #1 - #8
- Added bonus for all items collected at the start of "The End Of The
Line". Added speech and sound effects.
- Added a lamp effect for coffin hurry-up start.
- Added alternate speech for fuel mode start.
- Removed "casket" text from coffin multiball start effect.
- Fixed an issue where the music was not quiet immediately after the player
selected a mode for "Crank It Up".
- Added super jackpot stage to snake multiball. After collecting 3
(adjustable) snake combo jackpots, all shots are lit for super jackpot
until the end of the multiball. Playfield shots disappear when
collected, and reappear when all have been collected or the snake
eject is scored.
- Added speech for HSTD enter initials timeout.
- Fixed a bug that was causing the device driver for the magnets to ignore
the "disabled" adjustment.
- Fixed the player up display effect so it does not end with blank text.
- Fixed stray (bad) pixels in the BATTERY mode intro art.
- Combos were not clearing a counter properly, which caused incorrect
combo values to carry over to other players. This has been corrected.

Guess it's time to upgrade

#9160 7 years ago

Kick out from mystery where does yours go.

I just cleaned my playfield and its super fast. So kick outs from mystery hit left flipper the the right sling and then hits fuel targets almost every time.

Cant wait till it slows down a bit more.

#9161 7 years ago

Mine hits left flipper every time. If i have flipper up, it will go upnthe inlane and out sometimes, really smooth.

#9162 7 years ago

The lifting and chipping of the clear at the outhole happens on virtually EVERY Stern. It's par for the course. Like others have said, put down some mylar or a cliffy over it, and you're good to go.

#9163 7 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

Hey, that's cheating! On my game, I have to do a drop catch if I want to make a left flipper shot.

#9164 7 years ago

Another pic with apron off...i see no issues with the clear, looks perfect to me.

#9165 7 years ago

Fixed my sparky by adjusting the plate behind him. He wasn't shaking anymore like some other peoples games. Also replaced the plastic diverter post with a metal one, works right every time now. I love how you can search for a problem on here and 99.9% of the time the solution is available. Loving my Metallica Pro!

I've circled the two spots where the clear is starting to separate, you'll want to cover it with mylar as soon as possible to avoid those areas expanding and eventually chipping off completely.

With some work you could route the wire straight up the backside of the post out of sight. That is sweet!

#9173 7 years ago

That's definitely cool for those that already have the snake mod. For me though, just glad I never bought the mod in the first place. Never would have thought about it blocking the rollover lights.

I had all kinds of mods planned while waiting for my game and have yet to buy a single one. The more I play the game the less I feel the need for more trinkets, still considering a couple though so we'll see.

#9174 7 years ago

Metallica is great without mods so you can't go wrong either way. If you do nothing else, get the snake fangs from Mezel.

Hey guys just curious as I'm new to the game and learning still. It seems most of my audio (call outs and music) is coming from the speaker in the bottom of the cab and almost nothing from the head speakers. I have to almost put my ear to the speakers to hear anything from the ones in the head. Are they typically set up that way? I did the latest patch as mine was behind and that didn't change anything audio wise. I see the different menus for sound but it's hard to tell if I should leave it like that or move some more sounds into the head speakers. I'm going to upgrade the speakers and want it to sound the best. Not that it sounds bad coming from the bottom of the cabinet I'm just wondering if I'm missing something here. Thanks!

Is there an easy way to set those? I don't have mine yet so for all I know it could just be a menu item.

#9188 7 years ago

For those with a Total Lightshow kit, a very limited number of Total Lightshow add-on spinner sound caller kits now in the redshiftLED web store. There will be more, but I am building these out more slowly than usual. Replacement matrix cables are also available for those who don't wish to use the IDC pusher to get connectors onto the matrix cables. You will need to push 2x two-position connectors.

Is there some sort of cliffy to put where the ball drains so it doesn't chip? Or should I just use mylar?

#9190 7 years ago
Quoted from pcprogrammer:

Edit--oops, wrong, anyone in the future reading this see below re TZ.

The carbon fibers ones work great. Used to be metal but they curled up hence now carbon.

Yes.... It's basically the TZ gumball edge protector. Tell Cliff you want a Stern ball drain hole protector.
Works great, I just installed one on a Met.

Thanks for the reply Rob, They are original speakers still soldered from the factory. They look like they were done right from Stern.

#9197 7 years ago

I replaced the stock backbox speakers with good coax ones and clipped off the resistor. Sounds a bit stronger, but I think the machine really needs an extra small amp on the backbox speakers to make them loud. But, I'm happy with the sound now. I've had an external powered subwoofer on it for a while that really fills it out.
