i have an issue on my metallica premium. During play, with drop targets still in the up position it has started awarding graveyard multiball. I can't identify anything consistent happening just before it. Any ideas? I've tried checking connections. Not sure what else it could be?
thanks for any advice

Check the back opto near the cross.

thanks - makes perfect sense. Looks like i have to take a few pieces off to get in there so will tackle it tomorrow.

I had that exact issue with my new pro. It was the loose cross opto connector unerneath the playfield (on the opto pcb board). It registered hits from vibrations on the playfield.

Start with a switch test before you take things apart.

I recommend going into the switch test and bang around the playfield. You will probably see the opto trigger. Something could be loose or opto going bad. Either way should be easy fix.

I’ve worked on 2 Met that had this issue, aside from new opto set and securing connectors, I needed to actually bend the ball guides inward a bit to make certain the optics were properly aligned, the receiver board needed to be directly in the center of the red circle of light from the emitter to fix the problem 100%.

honestly not 100% sure which step was the one but i
- cleaned the optos
- rechecked all connections
- bent/re-aligned the opto boards

and so far, so good....
