-I don't seem to get JACKPOT callouts on snake multiball - only started it once, but ONE mode was running when I started it. Seemed odd, I enjoyed hearing confirmation of hitting jackpots! Maybe I have an adjustment off / on that I shouldn't?

Quit your bitching Steve. The up post is fantastic the way it is and one of the best parts of the game. You're not being rejected for a left orbit shot. The post is redirecting it back at you for some INTERESTING ball FLOW and combo action.
If you don't want it DISABLE IT = END OF STORY! If Borg wanted a controlled gate he would have used one. Gomez seems to like them and uses several. Go play one of his games.
Metallica is not a game with a controlled gate and should not try to emulate one.
