I just pulled my Met Road Case playfield (build date Sept 2015) due to some chipping and splitting/delaminating of the playfield. It has been sent back to Stern for replacement under warranty. Like RefugeNate, I am happy to report that Stern did not hesitate to make things right. I bought it NIB back in October 2015 and noticed the damage immediately upon unpacking it, but due to no replacement playfields being available at the time, I had to wait until now.
This is my first playfield swap and I have to say it definitely had me sweating a bit disassembling everything. Just like anything else, taking something apart is infinitely easier then putting it back together. Im hoping that it wont be too hard to figure out what connector goes where when I receive the replacement.
The chipping of the clear coat and playfield art was located in the sling areas. I posted a picture of the right sling area. The left sling has the same type of chipping. There also was some splitting of the playfield at the mystery hole. Although this damage would seem to be a bit minor to some, my fear was that it would spread over time. Especially at the slings.
My damage doesn't appear to be due to the clear coat/ playfield art application process, but more then likely was caused during the assembly process of the playfield.
I was pretty surprised by the box that was sent to return the playfield back in. My understanding is the replacement playfield is sent using a different packaging method.
Thanks to fellow pinsider Chriszg for answering my many pm's regarding this swap. I appreciate it.
Now the wait for a new populated playfield to arrive begins. I have my fingers crossed hoping that it wont take too long.
