Quoted from Rickwh:hmm... that doesn't seem to be very sturdy. how thick/stiff is that cardboard?
About the same as a pinball box. The bottom is stapled.
Rob
Quoted from smassa:after all that went on in this thread & you show us a picture of an empty box???
I can't help it that they didn't put something more tangible in the box.... It's just a progress update anyhow... I waited over a month for that box alone!
Rob
It sounds like they are taking care of you, but being a large company the wheels turn slowly. Best of luck with this.
I have not been keeping up... so it looks like you send your PF back first???
Ouch.
I wonder what the odds are they just get some guys at Stern to twist your playfield in the opposite direction for a bit then throw it back in the box?
I hope it works out, but sending my pf back first seems like a leap of faith. Who knows what will be sent back.
Quoted from BC_Gambit:I wonder what the odds are they just get some guys at Stern to twist your playfield in the opposite direction for a bit then throw it back in the box?
Maybe put it on the floor and stack a few microwaves on it for a week?
I am really glad they did get you a new pf. They price there loaded pfs higher than nib so score for you.
Well the old playfield is boxed up and ready to ship back. The 'formed' packing material Stern sent was woefully inadequate and didn't even fit correct. There was also no return shipping label so I'm not sure if I have to foot the bill to ship this back to Stern. I will have to call them in the morning.

Mine was in a plastic shipping Baggie glued on the outside of the box. Really need to get my shipped out but I haven't had a day off to mess with it. Going to try next week the day before I head out on vacation. Hate to do it now and it come back and it's sitting on the door step while we are out of state. Good luck! any pointers on filling in the voided space?

What was wrong with your playfield?
Actually I just threw all the paperwork in the box and sealed it. I'll probably have to open the box to get the paperwork now.... doh! I'll do that at UPS tomorrow morning.

I double checked and had no packing return slip. I phoned Chas from UPS and he gave me the info I needed to have a waybill written up.
He said don't worry if it gets damaged during shipping as they have parts to fix anything.
Rob
Quoted from Ballsofsteel:did you get that new pf in the cab yet?
No, I just got an empty box and shipped the playfield back to Stern on Monday (6/17). It will probably be a month before I see it again....
Rob
ugh what a hassle...i've read this entire post and it seems they just give the runaround...how much work would it realy have been to just ship a new populated play field with a return label, and you send your back...

Because there are unscrupulous people out there who would "forget" to ship the old one back. Unless secured by a credit card deposit. But then Stern would be getting flack for that.
I wonder how many unpopulated playfields sent out under warranty never get installed in the game?
Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.
Quoted from vid1900:At least Stern is replacing it.
Look at all the bad WOZ playfields, and JJP is just sending out stickers to cover the missing paint.
How happy would you be with this on your new $9000 game?

There are no MET Premium in production so a populated playfield could not be provided.

It's crazy to not have mylar around pop bumpers. That something every machine should have regardless of the clearcoat. When I bought a TSPP NIB back in 2003, it had no mylar in the jet bumper area. That was the first thing I added before I played it.

That is total bullshit. I will sell my WOZ and forget about buying the new Lawlor pin from them if it EVER gomes out.
Quoted from Rob_G:There are no MET Premium in production so a populated playfield could not be provided.
Perhaps the cardboard box is the replacement.
Quoted from TaylorVA:Two of the WOZ pics are mine. I have asked again about getting a playfield or one at a discounted price. In hindsight I should have put Mylar down but I generally don't do it on games that I have restored playfields in so didn't on what would be a HUO game.
I am not convinced that mylar would have prevented that forever. The playfield delaminating is unacceptable. The ball should wear down to the wood before the top layer starts chipping off.
Quoted from zr11990:He sent me a new PF. The thing is that this should not have happened at all. This is a manufacturer flaw which becomes a JJP flaw and it should be fixed. I am thinking seriously of selling my WOZLE and buying a TOTAN.
JJP sent you a new playfield?
Yes, he did. I was pretty persistent. I think it is bullshit that the ink chipped off and I probably don't have 100 games on the damn thing. Something about the game that bugs me and I don't play it much. I want to like it and play it more but I don't. I emailed him about it and he asked me what I wanted him to do and I told him that I wanted a new PF or at least sell me a new one at a discount. So he sent me one.
So I'm assuming this is the playfield?

Stern replacement playfields. My experience in the past are that you are not getting a pristine replacement. Usually they ship what ever wasn't a good grade for the line. Other people have experienced the same, & some have gone through racks looked for the best one. I have also gone years waiting for a Stern playfields under warranty. They come scratched, marked, or blemished in areas. It is what it is, I guess you should be happy getting any warranty service.
I am a Stern Dealer & customer in Canada. I have had paint chip off Stern playfields, & lately a local has a Star Trek Pro almost new shed its ink (brutal).
They only do that to Canadians...!!!... .....just kiddn bud...I'm a year in the hobby now...I think after reading here in that time...I'm completely talked out of NIB...I just don't see many positives other than the opening experience...BUT...maybe one day my kids will move out (yaa right nowadays)...and I'll have money too blow on nib's...............Joey

Good question! Mine gets there Monday. Maybe its the replacement I am getting? The assemblies look new, but the playfield looks like its had tnuts installed before?
Rob
That "80lbs crate" is so sad. Hopefully they can do something about it. Too bad they are not running any premium playfields.
My mistake, there was a return label.. I just missed it because it looked like paper backing on the clear envelope. Anyhow I checked UPS tracking and it's 'out for delivery' to Stern today.

That is crazy! Are you saying that you have to accept the decal remedy? Or is that what they initially try to offer but if you stick by your guns you can get a more acceptable solution? I would be very upset to have decals(band-aids literally) on my $9k game! My wife and I want an emerald woz but we usually only can afford used pins, never nib, so having seen this wear I am really worried about buying used and not having a warranty at all down the raod! Ugh!
Quoted from Spencer:Two and a half weeks later, any updates Rob?
No update. I was waiting to hear something from Stern before I posted, but have not heard anything.
Rob
Quoted from Warbound:That is crazy! Are you saying that you have to accept the decal remedy?
Previously, JJP was replacing playfields for free, but now they are offering you decals, or charging you $500 for a new playfield.
Maybe once the money starts flowing again if/when the Hobbit starts shipping, the free playfield replacement will return?

They are providing decals or precut Mylar to people who ask for them free of charge.
Do you know of anyone else, other than myself, that was offered the $500 playfield option?

Not that I know of.
Everyone I know got the new playfield and 15 hours of swap work.

Please elaborate. Were they given payment for someone to do the swap?

No one I know of said they got any money for the labor involved.
That does not mean that it did not happen.
