Trying to help someone with a Funhouse that is claiming the game is not maintaining its memory! No acid damage to speak of and he has the batteries in the right way. He's stating that when he turns the game on he has to go in and reset it to Free Play and 5 ball every time so apparently the memory isnt holding. Looking for input as what to look for that would cause this.

Having batteries in is good. Facing the right direction is better. Battery power actually getting onto the CPU is best.

One of the three is lacking. Grab a meter and work your way backwards. I'd bet on failed battery holder.

I've had the solder joint break on the back side of board mounted battery holders when changing batteries. That could be the problem. Don't let the force of pulling a battery out flex the board!

Make sure that the battery contacts are not corroded.

Now would be a good time to switch to a remote battery holder.

Thanks for the post guys! When I looked at the machine there was no apparent corrosion at all, so that's good! He said he never had the issue until recently when he changed the batteries so I am thinking the issue may be the fact that he broke a solder joint like pinheadpierre mentions. I will check next time I am at his place!

I couldn't even tell by looking at it, but reflowing the pins on the battery holder fixed it. That motivated me to finally install a remote battery holder!
