Ok, so it's a gumball machine not a pinball machine. But it appears to use typical 555 incandescent lamps. You would think there would be no issue with popping in LED replacements. Nope! They get so hot the plastic melts!

Anyone want to drop some science on me?

Thanks! Definitely something with the voltage. Tested it out with flasher bulbs and they worked. Have to figure out the proper bulbs.

Drama in a thread I'm in and it's not me!

Regardless, I appreciate everyone's input and decided to test voltage in two lamp locations.

Here are the results! What do you guys think? 12v?

Interesting. Too bad it doesnt have a test menu to keep them on. It would look like it is averaging the "bounce" close to 12, but I noticed a bit higher voltage on one over the other.
Hopefully someone else can chime in with a little more insight.
No chance of a manual for the wowie zowie?

They have one but it's kinda garbage. Not much good info

Wow, no kidding. Thet can give you part numbers for pcbs, gears, etc, but no info on a simple bulb?

    Haha, I know!

Unfortunately it just had bunch of old burnt out old 555 bulbs. I got it from a pinball arcade so I figure they assumed they were 6.3v too.

I'm thinking I could try this 10 pack of 12v LED to see how that goes.

The LEDs I bought claim to have features that smooth out voltage. Not sure how much of it is just marketing but I hope they hold up to the wonky voltage variance.

Rascal, I just realized! Those ones in pic may not be leds at all but are actually bugs from the matrix!!!!

    Matrix confirmed.

Alright guys, the new automotive bulbs have arrived and I've got them installed. It was a little crazy bright so I decided to throw a couple cointaker 906 LED flashers in there. Time will tell if they will hold up.

Here's what it looks like finished.
