Quick question about the diagnostics/self test....When you go to the lamp flashing test, do the skill shot (Gorgon) lamps flash in sequence with the other lamps? Mine are not flashing at all in self test and are not working in normal game play either (except the lower one). Trying to debug this.

#602 1 year ago
Quoted from goldpins:

Yes, those are feature lamps which are all switched on and off during lamp test mode.
Are the 20 rear playfield panel lamps all flashing? these plus the Gorgon lamps are driven by the auxiliary lamp driver board.

#603 1 year ago

Yes, the rear panel lamps are flashing but not the skill shot ones. I did a playfield swap so I must have a wiring issue on these. Thank you.

Issue must be with the braid wire (that carries 6 volts DC) to the base of those Gorgon lamp sockets.

Turn game on today and left flippers are down. Have continuity back to the Alltek Solenoid Board and to PS board. All wires intact. Looking for next thing(s) to look for.

By know means am I proficient in electronics so if you can dummy it down for me I cam go from there. Thnx

Check EOS switch on bottom flippers.

I did visually check them and they appear to be good. Gapped properly, wires intact.

Quoted from meSz:

Test:
1) in game play mode if you press left flipper button.
aq) does left flipper activate?
a1) yes.
a2) no.
if No, then
b) manually raise bottom flipper in up position.
bq) does flipper stay activate in up position?
b1) yes.
b2) no.
if yes, then EOS is possible problem or associated coil windings.
if no, then coil has continuity problems, check pcb relay circuit...etc.

#609 1 year ago
Quoted from vec-tor:

So I get to this point and the flipper did stay up but then I released the flipper button and it returned to the down position. Upon pressing the flipper but again it worked. So now the flipper is working.

Great that it now works but this is not normal???

I was wondering if someone can kindly help...?

When in switch mode the ball ejects from trough into shooter lane...

However in gameplay the kickout is very weak and only kicks the ball maybe 1 inch?...
And not into shooter lane...

Is that a short?... board?...
Technician tried swapping out 1 board but nothing... technician cant figure out the problem?....

Did you check the solenoid expander? cold solder joints...
Did you check the lamp bridge rectifier? any A.C. ripple?

I just picked a Medusa. Looking at BG options and noticed both CPR and Shay sell them. Does anyone have either of these options in their game and how do they compare to the OE? I know the CPR is the prototype, Shay doesn't have any info on theirs.

I'd purchase the Shay version, having seen both side by side.

I've never seen the Shay version but I would go with it as the CPR version the colors are so dark and saturated.

Awesome, I’d be down for one, for sure.

Working on the layout of Medusa Head main trunk wiring harness. Get it all sorted out, & waiting on wood to build a production jig. Seems like almost all wiring 22 awg & solid orange 18 awg.

My son is advising me that my Medusa machine is acting up. He’s saying that during game play the knocket will just start firing off. Since I’m back East for the holidays I would like to look to see what can cause this. I’ve played a few games and have yet to experience it. Anyone ever have this happen???

Hi,
anyone can tell me what is the exact angle of the playfield? This machine has definitely different cabinet than a "later williams like" pinballs (~6.5 degree angle pf) what I have, and the manual dont have any info about this.

Hello,

What do you guys do when your ball guides have the "Bally line of death"? I have buffed them and the line is less noticeable, but it's still there. I have read Vid's thread on making new guides, but I don't have the equipment for that. I spoke with Kerry over at Mantis about making them but he would need to make 25 sets in order to make it work for him. So I am curious what others do when restoring Medusa.

Thanks!

I had 6 sets made for FG. If you have a good sheet metal shop locally, they can make them. I bought the mirror stainless from McMaster, drilled out mounting brackets from spare sets from PF's over the years or bought scrap ones at shows. The sheet metal shop cut the new stainless, rolled it and installed the new brackets. I had about $30 in each 2 piece set plus the time to gather everything.

Hello,

what could be wrong - or is it a possible "normal" behaviour sometimes - if playing on the upper field, with zipped flippers, shooting drop targets and targets, everything seems fine, but suddenly (hit a target maybe?) the ball like "drains"... The machine sense that that ball drained, and comes the speech; Time your shot, lite gorgons. But of course I still play on Colossus field.
What happening? I think it happen when several rapid action was on the playfield.

Hi I just got a Medusa, and I need to build here from ground and up.
Is there anywhere I can buy a new playfield graphic?

If you mean playfield, CPR has them in stock.

I've got a beautiful Medusa, blowing F4 - I realize it's solenoids, or a short in a common solenoid wire.

Reading through the manual, seems to be lacking.

Does anyone have a visual map of the underside of the playfield with solenoid makes and numbers?

I'm trying to test each solenoid in/out of circuit and most of them have burned up labels - I know, bad sign.

Much appreciated in advance.

Last page of the downloadable PDF manual has the coil types.

Disconnect J1 from the rectifier board - that will remove the playfield from the equation, just in case the short is around the front door coin lockout coil / cabinet knocker coil.

Thanks again Quench ! I think I might have to make a map myself - I have been bottle fed too long with lots of pictures in my documentation

Hi fellow Medusa owners, my uncle is currently in possession of my game.. I’m restoring an Embryon, and the head harness was removed from this machine, is there a chance someone here has one from a parted Medusa machine?

Or does anyone have great photos or schematics of just the head wiring harness?

Please help thank you

Just curious but why are you using Medusa as a wiring template for Embryon with Medusa's more complicated hardware?

I assumed these two back box harnesses are similar in nature, I did forget about the zipper flippers and the extra display in the playfield on medusa that Embryon does not have. It’s making me wonder now if future spa may be a better match, I own a future spa and maybe the backbox wiring harness is similar

Future Spa has the rectifier board/transformer in the head while Embryon has it in the base of the cabinet. Got any other Ballys of that era?

I have a project Embryon in storage and was actually going to take pictures of it yesterday for you but it didn't pan out. My next visit to it will be in about 3 weeks but I think you'll likely have it sorted by then.
Anyway I do have a Medusa here and am happy to take head wiring pics if you still want them.

Dear Medusa (or similar) pinball owners,
I got a constant under the playfield (solenoid) F1 SB fuse blowing.
Where should I start to investigate what causing it?

Look at every coil on the PF, are any burnt? When you start the game with a working fuse installed does any solenoid fire before the fuse blows?

#643 8 months ago

Not seen any sign of burn. When I "sacrified" a fuse to check what happen in that tiny moment , it seemed, the left slingshot has pumped. But I am not sure. (You know, all of the coils has tak-tak-tak fastly when you start the machine, very hard to recognize which one could be faulty.)

I have to get several fuses for testing, or get a circuit breaker.

I have a problem with my Medusa - coils specifically.

Several burned up coils, and I'm tracking down what's in place and comparing to what came with it factory.

The target bank reset coils are NB 26-1900 (original NO 26-1900).

The closest I can come up with based on the coil chart should be 22 ohms. Have verified it's not my DMM.

What is the difference between an NO 26-1900 and NB 26-1900? Haven't been able to figure that out either, assuming it's lug position?

Hey guys I’ve recently picked up a Medusa and unfortunately the entire zipper flipper assembly has been removed and replace with regular flipper assemblies If anyone has a zipper flipper assembly, or knows where to get one is me very grateful! Thanks in advance
