Looks Good! I beat them out last night as was able to use the existing shoes. Looks and plays better. Do you feel it's more accurate and easier to aim up top with modern flipper bats?

They probably wont feel more accurate to use if you are used to EM games. Found it easier to get them perfectly aligned with the overlying plastic – which I assume is the intended flipper angle. Had a hard time trying that with the EM bats. When the flippers closed they would form an almost horizontal flipper line..

Hello. New to pinball collecting and one of my first pins is a Medusa. I am going to start restoring this one and wondering about the rubbers. Mine is currently all red, but I've seen several kits using white and yellow on the flippers. What are the original colors?
My playfield is pretty jacked too, so I will have to restore or replace it.

Somebody asked me recreate the little kicker pole in between the two flippers of a Fireball II which can be used on a Medusa also. So here it is.
The 2 last pics where my first version, since them been using the red semi tranparant look. Price 17$ or 15 € + shipping.

Hey folks, I managed to score a Medusa a little while back. What a cool game.
Does anyone know where to source the dual eos switch used for the zipper flippers? The ones installed in mine are 2 normally closed eos with a metal blade in between separating them. They seem kind of unique to me. I combed through Marco and Pinball Life but didn't see them.

Ok for the zipper flipper EOS switches, PBR no longer carries ASW-A20-36 or 37 so at the moment I'm SOL.
Upon further research, I found Pacman's Medusa restoration. He referenced post #388 to rebuild his EOS switches. Looks like he used 580-5018-00 and replaced ASW-A20-36/37 with ASW-A20-34. You can view a pic of this on post #57 of his restoration thread here:
I have both of these switches on hand, only problem is ASW-A20-34 has 2 terminals while the original ASW-A20-36/37 has 3 so I'm not sure how to wire them. I checked schematics but not the best at reading them nor am I well versed in electrical theory. Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this conundrum. Attaching pics of my old and new EOS switch stacks.
new eos (resized).jpgold eos (resized).jpgCheck VERY carefully, but I'm nearly 100% certain the outer-most terminal on the switch assembly - the one nearest the screw heads that hold the switch stack in place - is just a tie point for the black/yellow (one flipper) and red/black (other flipper) wires coming from the wiring harness to the zipper flipper assembly and then on to one lug of the flipper coil. I suspect it was wired that way by the factory to allow the wires from the harness to move together.
If I'm correct all you need to do is connect together the wires leading to that old "fifth" lug, solder, and insulate.
Sometimes they are tight on the shaft. Try prying it off from the bottom. You can break the bat plastic and pry it off. It will come off. Worst case PBR sells the shaft but the OE is better.

Seems like there is a lot of Medusa restoration action happening lately! We just finished ours up, picked one up at Captain's Auction several months ago, got the CPR playfield from the big eBay sale a while back...oh, and threw in a custom designed 3D printed topper while we were at it. Looks and plays great now! Really love the gameplay on this one.
Playfield swap including rebuilding and cleaning of everything as needed, electronics overhaul, powder coating, cabinet repair and repaint, the works!
The gold we used for the stenciling looks really good in person, but somehow seems to almost disappear in photos at certain angles. I like how the gold came out on the powder coating as well.

Just finished a playfield swap and working out the normal gremlins.
Problem: the upper left flipper coil is superheated
Can you guys take a look at my zipper flipper setup and let me know if I wired something incorrectly? The EOS switches are both closed and open normally when the flipper is engaged.
I noticed the problem when the upper left flipper became sluggish, likely because the coil sleeve melted. The paper yellowed a bit due to the heat.
During the swap, I used spare 16 gauge wire because the original wire was toasted, so the colors may be off.

Ski Dave found the problem. One of the diodes on the bad coil is backwards.

Hi Fellow Medusa owners. I’m restoring a Medusa and my EOS switches don’t look right.
On the left flipper the red and green (from non banded side of coil) wires have been soldered together instead of being on each side of a switch. Making them always closed.
The same has been done on the right with the orange (coming from the non banded side of the coil) and the black yellow.
So all I have operating is normally closed switch between the lug on the banded side of the coil and the middle lug between the 2 diodes on the coil.
Hopefully the pictures make sense.
I was trying to find a schematic for this EOS but couldn’t.

For either good or bad, shorting out these switches defeats this element in the design.
Another quick resto question. Are the brackets that hold the apron on supposed to be straight? Mine have a bend in them and when I tried fitting them to the new playfield they push the apron forward.
I’m tempted to go straighten them in a vice but wanted to check with other Medusa owners what theirs were like first.

Thanks. Odd that everything is (hopefully) assembled correctly and the ball has just enough clearance to drop through the flippers.

I adjusted the zipper flippers, and now they will hold the ball. Unfortunately, I must have shorted something when the playfield was up. The 20A fuse on F1 is blowing. Any ideas where the problem may be?

Those lights are driven by leaf switches on the zipper flippers. Go into the test and check that all lights are working.
If everything is working, you’ll likely need to adjust the leaf switches. If the lights don’t work, you may have a flaky LED connection. Put in a new lamp and see if that works.
Ok got display fixed and had flipper light working but the flipper light went out all together

The playfield lighting looks fine to me, although I would have gone with frosted warm white for the GI since it’s such a red game. I just think the backglass looks like someone fingerpainted the back of it. Good job on the restoration otherwise! I’ll go back to my “napping” now, lol.
