Not really a restoration, I suppose because this is just general maintenance and clean up/mod, so I think it fits in the General section more than anywhere else. If not, then it can be moved to the appropriate sub section. Just wanted to say that first. Anyway...

Taking on a new project today. Working on restoring this Medieval Madness machine for a friend. He got it for an absolute steal. I won't say how much, but I will say that he should be able to than double his money if he ever sold it after I'm done fixing it up. It's in really good shape, but there are 3 somewhat major issue that will need to be resolved before it's playable and I can get to work on everything else.

1) The Catapult solenoid doesn't work. The diode needs re-soldered on.
2) The Troll launcher solenoid doesn't work. The diode needs re-soldered on.
3) The right hand flipper plastic piece that trips the opto board is broken and needs replaced.

Minor issue include decals, plastics, and coils that need replaced and some other stuff not worth mentioning. Going to do a FULL rubber kit and LED kit. This machine is going to be immaculate when I'm done with it. Stay tuned for how it all turns out!

Very nice, if those 3 minor issues you listed are the major issues ... WOW

Yup. I've gone through the entire machine and except for being dirty, those three issues are the only ones! It's fully working otherwise. I've tested every single switch/solenoid/light, etc. The launcher coil is a bit weak, so it's being replaced, but that's it! Didn't get to work on the machine tonight. Busy with other stuff but I can't wait to get this beauty shining.

Had a buddy at work today drill the rivets out on the broken Merlin's Magic plastic piece and squeeze in some new ones for the new piece. Turned out great!...

So all you guys out there who have this pin or have played it regularly, how do you keep the ball from getting stuck behind the right hand troll when he's up? Looks to me like there is no way and sometimes the ball prevents the troll from going back down.

I can't tell from the picture. Does yours have the angled plastic in the back of the troll?

Doesn't appear to. It would make sense that something like that is supposed to be there. Is there a good source for what's supposed to be there? I have no frame of reference for this machine. Thanks!

Well, looks like the guide is broken on the right troll. Here are pictures of the left hand versus right hand...

Post #40 in this thread says to bend the flap outward just a little:

If you don't have the flap then a new bracket might be needed.

I need to go do this adjustment to my right troll tonight.

That doesn't appear to have the arm I need. This looks more like a complete version...

EDIT: Nevermind. I guess it's just the angle. I see the arm is there now. Thanks for the link! I'll let the owner know and he'll need to get one ordered. I'll suggest replacing both sides.

It looks like the same thing just with the picture reversed. Also, the part number is the same.

BayAreaamusements is sold out:

It is on page 2-29 of the manual. The part is one unitary piece.

Both flipper rebuild kits installed, new launcher coil installed, Merlin's Magic Ejector switch diode fixed, Catapult Ejector switch diode fixed, and LEDs installed in the backbox. The machine is now 100% operational. I always like to have them fully working before I tear them apart for shopping so if something doesn't work at the tail end, I know it was something I did. Next step is a full tear down for cleaning, rubber kit, and LED kit installation. Stay tuned!

Nice. I think I actually like the first translite picture better than the second. That purple just doesn't seem to fit to me.

Yeah. I just threw them in there for picture purposes. I will most likely change up the colors and balance them/it more when I see what colors I have left over after doing the whole machine. It's pretty arbitrary as to where the LEDs go. The bag marked 'backbox' only had white and purple LEDs in it.

With the exception of still needing to replace the right hand Troll Bracket/Housing assembly, the clean up project is complete. All I can say is...WOW! What a difference. You can see for yourself. All in all, not a difficult task. I've worked on much more labor intensive projects. This one was relatively easy. Did a full tear down, full playfield cleaning/waxing, full rubber kit, full LED kit, downwash LED strip in the back, spotlights, new Troll door decals, full flipper rebuilt kits including the solenoids, new Launch Ball button, new launcher solenoid, and a new Merlin's Magic plastic. That's pretty much it. On to the next project...
