Holy crap! I've been using 50/50 mean green and water in my ultrasonic for about a year now with great results. How long did it sit in the bath?

    Quoted from cody_chunn:

One hour, temp at 60, 1/2 distilled water, 1/2 MG

That seems a bit long to me. Was the ultrasonic running that entire time?

I have a different unit - the 2.5L HF cleaner - but I don't think I've ever needed to run a single piece for longer than 5-10 minutes. I've also found that using heat is often times more effective than longer cleaning cycles. Does your cleaner have a heating element?

Cleaned these Bally sling mechs last night and it made me think of this thread. 180 second cycle, 50/50 Purple Power and hot water (which I'm liking more than Mean Green these days).

The ultrasonic isn't going to help you polish plated metals, but man it will eradicate dirt, grease, grime like a haus!

I've never had the nerve to put a coil in the HF ultrasonic cleaner. I saw you did it with great looking results. Any problem with the diodes or coils after the ultrasonic bath?

No problems at all. As recommended earlier, hit them with some compressed air and make sure they're completely dry before reinstalling.

    Quoted from ccotenj:

i have had nothing but success cleaning metal parts in the ultrasonic... not just pin parts but many other metal objects as well...

depending on what i'm cleaning, i generally either use straight mean green or straight zep heavy duty orange... both get a few drops of dawn dishwashing detergent as well...

Ditto. I've put literally hundreds of metal pieces through my cleaner with zero problems.

    Quoted from cody_chunn:

Did you have to wipe those items when they came out, or did they look like that right out of the cleaner?

I rinsed them in water, but they pretty much looked like that right out of the cleaner.

Very cool of you to offer up samples. Thanks, Art!

All I clean are 70's/80's parts. Here's a Bally DT assembly I just finished. Nothing needed more than 180 seconds in the ultrasonic.

And here are the finished slings from earlier.

    Quoted from RoyF:

Ok, that picture looks so good I have to ask - did you break down the drop target assembly into its component parts before putting it into the cleaner or not?

Yes, assembly was completely broken down. I also hit a few pieces with Mothers mag polish before putting it back together. Targets themselves are PBR repro's.
