Anyone know if a National Semi INS8048-6MLK/N will work in the place of a 6808? Or what about a 6809?

    Thanks

    Hi Dennis,

6802 can replace 6808 and is much more common and easier to find.

    A 6809 is not a substitute for a 6802/6808.

8048 CPUs are a completely different architecture (Intel based). Not a substitute.

I need to replace the 6808 on my DE MPU and this thread was just what I was looking for. Thanks for the info!

Looking through my tubes of old ICs the other day, I came across a tube with just 1 chip enclosed hand marked 6808 on the tube, I have no idea where i got it from, but must have been from years ago.

This AMI chip is from 1983 & has a completely different part number to any 6808 I have seen, it's not a pinball manufacturer custom number either & their is no reference on the net for the number. I tried it out & it is indeed a functional 6808 & a working AMI too! can only assume it was a 6808 with a custom number for another industry other than pinball.
