I might be in at $2K but $4K no way. Not when I could get a 90s B title AND a good condition EM for the same kind of money. Operators would probably like it because maintenance would be more straightforward, but forget about big sales to the home market unless the games are licenced.

Quoted from Jappie:

One more modern feature that is hard to recreate for pinball is an online function. Reason: every one of the same model pinball machine plays slightly to vastly different.

It's easy enough to implement and if it's used purely as a gimmick to attract new players, why not? As long as this feature is not an integral part of the ruleset or used in tournaments, then I don't see the problem.

Quoted from swinks:

how about a small lcd in the apron with a slide show of instructions and shot map.

Even better would be a touch screen on the lockdown bar. Put it next to the start button so you can't miss it. Then you could scroll through the rules (similar to the Pinball Arcade app).

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

And a step back to numerical displays doesn't make any sense from any standpoint. Even alphanumeric at this point.

There are several reasons to do this:
Reduce costs, including animation design and programming
Game Rules will be straightforward, making explanations on a DMD unnecessary
Novice players rarely look at DMDs anyway, and experienced players rarely need to
No one is impressed by DMD animation anymore. It's not going to attract players to the game.
