I don't know if pinball has to be simpler, so much as more user-friendly. In the most recent episode of the Skill Shot Pincast where the hosts talked to a Seattle-area operator, he had many of the same complaints mentioned previously:
- People don't know how to start the game because the flashing green button is at their left thigh and not in their line of vision.
- People don't know how to launch the ball because don't know to pull the plunger. I've seen people push it, jiggle it up and down. I understand that hardcore pinheads love a good skill shot, but I can't help but wonder how much of the long-term success that Medieval Madness, Attack from Mars and Monster Bash have had on route is because they replaced the plunger with a simple flashing button.
- People don't understand that when their ball is "saved," they are still on the same ball, so people will leave after their ball has been saved twice
- People don't know to flip one flipper at a time or not at all, and bash the buttons.
- People just don't know what to shoot for, in general.
